OVERVIEW

The TUSQ XL 1/4" Epiphone Slotted Nut (PQL-6060-00) is a superior replacement nut for Epiphone guitars.

Finally, the breakthrough you've been waiting for. Now you can have it all - the great tone of TUSQ, classic good looks AND permanent lubrication. If you love the look of a vintage white nut, but you keep going out of tune when you bend strings or use your tremolo, then TUSQ XL is just what you need.

TUSQ XL is designed to boost guitar tone and performance. This precision engineered nut is made with a specially formulated material which couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man made ivory, but is impregnated with Teflon to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

If you have an acoustic or vintage guitar, you owe it to yourself to hear the difference a TUSQ replacement guitar nut makes. Compared to standard materials such as bone, Micarta or Corian, you'll hear more harmonics with every note you play when you use TUSQ on your guitar.

TUSQ is a proprietary material that is precision engineered under high pressure and heat. It is specifically formulated to deliver the right frequencies with the optimum transfer rate to the top of your guitar every time. Because of the way TUSQ replacement guitar nut is made, it is a consistent material that is rich in tone and harmonic content.

TUSQ guitar parts have quickly become an important tone performance tool for some of the world's most renowned guitar manufacturers, luthiers and playing professionals. TUSQ nuts and saddles have rich tone and sustain, without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ replacement guitar nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body. Acoustic guitars come alive. Electric guitars will get a brighter sound and increased harmonic content.

TUSQ XL offers vintage looks and permanent lubrication.

FEATURES
  • Has a crystal clear-bell like high-end and big open low-end
  • Laboratory-proven to enhance harmonic content (up to 200% over other materials)
  • Engineered for maximum vibration transfer
  • Permanent lubrication
  • Used by the world's finest guitar manufacturers
  • Consistent quality from piece to piece and within each piece
  • No flat or dead spots that can be found in bone or ivory
  • Easy to work with - can be filed and sanded; will not chip or flake

Good product overall. It takes some sanding but anyone can do it. It's worth the investment. Improves the clarity of your guitar tone. Give you a little more brightness and notes sustain more. It was a great improvement to my epiphone les Paul standard. I've read about how changing the nut of your guitar is the cheapest way to improve tone and they were right.

I originally gave this nut a favorable review, replacing an Earvana nut on an ESP LTD EC-1000, but I have had some issues and am removing it. Some people like the Earvana, but I have had problems with the "E" string sinking into the material and eventually buzzing on two different guitars. I have checked the TUSQ nut several times and I can not understand what is happening. There is the the correct amount of clearance and It's not hitting the first fret. The high "E" string is just not right. It is just not crisp and clear, it's sort of muted. I have tried changing the strings, which is what I originally thought the problem was, but it sounds the same. When using the frets it sounds fine. I've have used it for gigs and you cannot hear it as much when amplified, but it really bugs me when playing the guitar acoustically. I have now made a bone nut from a blank, which was very time consuming, but it sounds much better. I don't know if there was some sort of fault in this particular nut, but I purchased two, so I will try more experimentation. I had to to get this guitar fixed as it is my gigging ax. I have owned and used several other Fenders and Gibsons with bone nuts for many years without any issue. I use 10-52 strings. I am surprised I had this issue after all the good reviews.

Perfect replacement nut for my Led Paul knock off! Once I installed it I had to sand the ends just a bit to match the neck......nothing to it, works great!

I originally purchased this to use on an Epiphone acoustic. When it arrived I realized it was a virtually an exact fit for a Mitchell I also had which was in dire need of and upgrade. Ordered another for the Epiphone.

Comments about Graph Tech TUSQ XL 1/4" Epiphone Slotted Nut:

I agree with all the good things everybody else has said about this product. My understanding is Gibson also uses these now. I can't tell much difference in appearance between these and a bone nut. Bone nuts sound good, plastic so not good, so big difference upgrading from a plastic nut. I just fitted one to an ESP LTD EC-1000 (Excellent guitar). Just a little sanding, which is easy. Among several Gibsons and others, I have 4 ESP guitars, 2 (EC/MH-1000) that came with the Earvana nut, which I have just replaced. The Earvana nut appears to be soft and I have had issues with the "E" string vibrating against the fingerboard. I could not hear that the Earvana nut improved the tuning, obviously easy for me to compare. I'm sure these could be fitted to Gibsons (3/16) too with a little sanding. The only complaint I have is the Sales Rep. could not tell me what the difference is between this "XL" and the non "XL" ??? It says on the package the "XL" have extra length and height to be sanded to size. As far as I can see the "XL" nuts I got, measure the same as the dimensions on the WEB, which are the same for both products ???

I recently used one of these on a new Epiphone Casino that a couple of the strings were binding at the nut, making the guitar a little difficult to tune. After installing this, all problems gone.

I had to repair my Alvarez accoutic that I had re-strung left handed for my son. I had enlarged the slots for the new string order (now high to low). When I returned the guitar to right handed configuration the high strings sat too low. This nut slipped right into place and the string slots were the right height. If I really wanted to tweak the action I could probably get them to sit a bit lower in that they are a smidge too high right now.
