It doesn't take a guitar historian or even a musician to recognize the Gibson name. With some of history's most recognized guitars under its belt, this Nashville-based luthier is a titan of the music scene. Of course, that reputation has been a long time in the making: Gibson is more than a century old. They started out in 1902 with a focus on mandolins, and in the first few decades they were already making history with the invention of the archtop guitar. By the 1930s, they had added flat-top acoustics to their offerings, and in 1952, they introduced the Les Paul. It was the first solid-body electric guitar from Gibson - not to mention one of the earliest from any luthier - and it cemented their place in the industry.
Today, the Les Paul is going as strong as ever. It even bounced back from a total redesign in the 1960s (that version still survives, of course, as the Gibson SG). In the decades since then, we've seen groundbreaking designs like the Gibson Firebird and Explorer added to the lineup, while Gibson has stayed true to its roots at the same time, with a strong roster of semi-hollow, hollow-bodied, archtop and acoustic instruments. You'll find all of those and more in this section, with guitars ranging from entry-level stage models to ultra-collectible custom designs and limited editions.
So go ahead and start looking for your dream Gibson. Do you want a classic like the Gibson Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar? How about a dramatic boost to your stage presence with the Explorer T Electric Guitar? The ES-335 and ES-339 are ready and waiting if you prefer a jangly semi-hollow '50s sound - or maybe you're not looking for a guitar at all. If a bass would be more up your alley, Gibson has a few sweet picks to choose from, including the EB Bass T and the gorgeous Gibson Midtown Signature Electric Bass Guitar. The bottom line is that no matter what kind of axe you want to grind, there's a Gibson for you.
