OVERVIEW

American made and praised for their warm, gut-like sound and longevity!

D'Addario's Helicore strings are justifiably popular; they offer a warm, rich sound that's remarkably similar to gut or synthetic core strings. Unlike gut, however, their all-metal construction renders them impervious to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. Helicore strings have a multi-strand high-carbon steel core that produces flexible response and range. The core is overlaid with exotic alloy windings that provide extremely quick bow response and outstanding projection. The end result is a versatile string with very long playing life that is extremely stable under all playing conditions.

I purchased a set thinking they'd be a good lower-cost alternative to Thomastic Dominants, which I've used for a few years. While stringing, the low E broke on me almost immediately. I went ahead and used the high A and high E strings, which sound all right. However, I quickly sprung for another set of Dominants, which strung up with no problems and, to my taste, sound richer. I'd suggest paying the extra $20 for the Thomastics. It's worth it. I can get almost a year of daily playing out of them.

Comments about D'Addario Helicore 4/4 Size Violin Strings:

I had a problem with my Dominant E string squeaking during practices and performances. Changing it out didn't seam to help. I'm preparing for a student concerto competition, so this was quite distressing. My mom bought these for me and I switched out all my Dominant strings. The tone is different, slightly ringy but overall I'm pleased with the tone and the squeakiness is gone.

Comments about D'Addario Helicore 4/4 Size Violin Strings:

These were recommended by a good friend and concert violinist. Although D'Addario Helicores are not THE go to brand for most folks, they are indeed excellent strings. I use them on an expensive professional violin as well as a modest electric with great results on both. The sound is exceptionally full, clear and bright... so much so that these may not work well in a section with other violinists (unless you're the 1st-chair soloist).

Unlike many other strings, Helicores are smaller in diameter and have a medium tension. These combined qualities provide a noticeable ease of play. The E-string is plated high-carbon steel. The wound strings have a multi-stranded steel core that offers improved volume and stability -- they stretch less and stay in tune longer. A great recommendation and really great strings with a unique sound for the solo performer.

Comments about D'Addario Helicore 4/4 Size Violin Strings:

I have used helicore mediums on 3 different violins and have found that the A sounds weaker than the other 3 strings. Doesn't sound balanced. I have used different bows as well trying to understand the problem. I have come to the conclusion that it's either me or the aluminum wound A. I now use a Supersensitive medium A Red Label string with the 3 helicores and am pleased with the sound and balance.

Comments about D'Addario Helicore 4/4 Size Violin Strings:

I tour on a regular basis and these are my go to strings. Use both for my electric and acoustic as they react great with the piezo pickups and still have a warm acoustic sound, without sounding muted. I buy $100-$200 worth at a time usually finding Musician's Friend to have the best price with one of their infamous coupons.

With my electric violin I put on a new set every 2-3 months and I've only had one bad string out of package in the last 5 years. That's reliability.

Comments about D'Addario Helicore 4/4 Size Violin Strings:

Not quite as deep of a sound as I had hoped for. But they play pretty smooth, and they tune and break in quickly. I put them on an electric fiddle. Definitely worth the value.

                Dependable

                By Matthew Fuller

                from Undisclosed

Comments about D'Addario Helicore 4/4 Size Violin Strings:

As steel strings go, these are probably the best choice. Not as bright and thin as a monolithic steel. Break in quickly, hold tune wonderfully, and they last a long time.

You won't get the complexity and depth of sound a good synthetic will give you, though if you want a more focused tone they can still be a good choice. And they're cheaper and last longer.

If you're a pro, you already know what works for your taste, style, and instrument. If you're just learning... well, you could do a lot worse. They cost more than cheap steel strings, but it's worth it. Violin's hard enough to learn, without dealing with bad-sounding strings at the same time.

Comments about D'Addario Helicore 4/4 Size Violin Strings:

Helicore strings are on the warm side for a steel core, very responsive, stay in tune, long life. Professional quality strings. I like the wound E, gives the bow more to grab onto, never whistles even though I'm a novice player.
