Comments about D'Addario NS610 NS Electric Traditional Bass Strings:
I was disappointed with the sound of the stock strings (NS Design Contemporary) that we're stock on my NS Design NXTa double bass, especially the E string which was particularly twangy. I called NS Design about another issue and mentioned the sound. The person with whom I spoke confirmed my belief that the Traditional strings sound closer to an acoustic bass. He even said he believes NS should ship the NXTa with the Traditionals instead of the Contemporary. Hence, I decided to purchase these strings, although I was not happy about the added expense after buying my bass.
The strings are stiffer, thicker, and have less sustain (just like an acoustic upright), so they are a little harder to play than the Contemporary strings. This might be why NS ships the NXTa with the Contemporary strings. But if you want to get closer to an upright, these are your strings!
Note: At the time of this writing (11/2017), the 4-pack of these strings is on back-order, BUT the individual E, A, D, and G strings are in stock AND the total for the four individual strings is slightly LESS than the four pack. I cancelled my 4-pack order and ordered the individual strings, which arrived today.
