Comments about D'Addario Prelude Violin String Set:
I started playing a little over a year ago, and still consider myself a beginner. I chose these strings because I didn't want to invest too much into something I might give up later.
The strings that originally came with the violin were garbage (you can't expect a whole lot from a beginner violin). I went into a shop in my town, and asked my buddy there what he would recommend. He suggested the Preludes, since they sounded way better than what I had, without shelling out a ton of $$$.
Needless to say, these strings are pretty good. They hold their tune, break in really easily, and I got them for pretty cheap compared to other strings of the same quality. It's a deal you can't beat!!

Comments about D'Addario Prelude Violin String Set:
Preludes are a great, solid & dependable string for most student & intermediate users. I even have a set on one of my pro instruments, and they consistently produce a full, balanced tone. These strings are long-lasting and are made well, and I've used them for years as stock strings for the fiddles I repair and resell. I have yet to have one break from poor quality construction or manuafacturing flaw, so they are tough and last a long time. They are made with flat-wound stainless steel wrapped on a steel core, so they are noise-free and easy to play and will stay rust-free, as long as you keep them clean.
When you first put a set of these on, they do tend to be a bit "raw" for a while, like most any string, but after a week or two they calm down and produce a lovely, strong, yet balanced tone that responds well to most styles of playing. These strings come hermetically sealed and color-coded, so installation is easy, even for a beginner.
I highly recommend these strings as a top choice for the money invested, and they will bring out some great tones to most student and intermediate fiddles and will last for ages. Of course, if you want smoother, deeper tone you may want to go with something with braided or synthetic core (i.e., Thomastik Dominate, Superflexible, or D'Addario Helicores, etc.) but these Preludes will do just fine for most folks, especially if you are an intermediate or student player. Especially well-suited for bluegrass, old-time, or country fiddle! Just not much negative to say about them. Good, solid steel-core fiddle strings that last.

Comments about D'Addario Prelude Violin String Set:
I did not know that the peg strings would not work with the tuners I purchased. Maybe you could have caught my novice mistake.
