I searched all over physically and online for a decent beginning violin for a good price. I didn't have thousands to spend on each piece and the student instruments were still so expensive!! I took a chance on a "cheap" instrument, going somewhere mid range of the $75-200 price range I was researching.
My final choice was between the Hoffman Amadeus from Shar and this Doreli 79, which I came across the night before I wanted to make my purchase. It was a last minute decision I feared I would regret, but I would suggest this instrument to ANY beginner! Though a novice, I've done my research and knew what to expect.
This violin holds a tune very well, has a beautiful finish (minus a few minor paint or cosmetic issues), is made of good material, and has a beautiful sound. The bow is nice, though one hair is already loose (easy fix).
Case is nice, rosin is good.
I promise, I agonized over this for weeks, but I regret nothing about this decision!

Sound is great.. Quality is cheap ( what do you expect? Not a high priced Violin) Good for Me.. Beginner.. My Teacher is surprised at it's sound.. But Is cheaply built.. Good as Learning Violin to see if you really want to learn to play.. then Move up in, quality. IMO.. Nice and Good price. Nice sound.. teacher hopes I get better and move up to more expensive.. But first need to know if I Can even figure strings E..D..A..G???.. great starter..... don't spend a lot if you are simply curious.. This is good for Me.. I love it... someday I might buy a more expensive Violin.. Or...Maybe this will be OK?

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:
I've had this violin for awhile now, so I feel fairly comfortable listing it's pros and cons. It's well made and has a decent tone. The default strings make the violin sound a little bright/metallic (especially around the E string) - I recommend a set of Dominants with a mellow sounding E-String to obtain a more pleasent sound. The accompanying bow didn't hold up for long. The violin can be difficult to tune - you really have to cram the pegs in there - but the micro-tuners help. Humidity changes will cause the violin to go flat or sharp (as with most tunable instruments), but here again the microtuners come in handy. You will probably need to adjust the bridge a bit. This violin is definitely playable, and with practice you can produce tones that don't sound like a dying cat. It is a good purchase for the money and has held together well over the last year or so. If you find that you like playing the violin you may ultimately want something better, but this is not a bad starter instrument, and with better strings it can sound nice.

Purchased the 1/8 size for my 6 year old and was delighted with the sound quality of this instrument!!! He has taken lessons for 3 months now and his teacher and I are both impressed with the quality, sound and its ability to stay in tune.
Ordering was easy and shipping was fast.
We are very happy with our purchase!

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:
Light weight and easy to use and transport. Durable case with shoulder straps. Perfect for a beginner, but will need continuous tuning at first because it doesn't stay in tune well until it is broken in. Contains violin, bow and rosin. No extra strings, no shoulder pad.

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:
I should have sent this one back to MF but this one replaced 1/8 size they sent in error. Now I've got new fine tuners & strings (broken string, too) ordered from MF. Hopefully, with these upgrades it'll be a good violin to use for years to come.
Pros

- Holds tune well
- Rich Sound
- Strong pegs
Cons
- F holes not well painted

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:
This violin broke me out of a creativity block. It's fun to play, and not at all hard to start if you know a little theory and have experience playing guitar. If you want to learn violin, this makes a great first violin imo.
What can I say, it's a cheap violin, with basic features. I can't say its of premium quality, but it's definitely well worth the price if you're unsure of your desire to learn the instrument.
The violin I got had a few issues. First was the finish. It wasnt done carefully, there were no major cosmetic flaws, just a few buildup spots. But you get what you pay for. The real issue I had was the tail piece. The fine tuners are quite cheap. The one for my E string doesnt even work at all. It's ridiculously difficult to tune this violin with just the pegs, they arent fine tuners and you have to push them in to keep them from giving in to the strings pressure. Also the strings arent of great quality, but you can still get a decent sound out of them. The bow isnt top notch but it works. Even with these minor flaws, you can fix the little things like the tailpiece with some effort and come out with an awesome violin.
For this price, I don't think you can really beat it.
Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:
I had never played a violin in my life but I think they are one of the most beautiful instruments and after reading the reviews and doing some research, I bought this to get the most for my money. I've spent all my time so far trying to tune it correctly, then after too many failed attempts-I've tuned it so it sounds good to me, lol. The point is, is that it still sounds beautiful! I love to play even if no one else would probably like it... I would recommend this to any beginner.

The sound is better than I expected. I'm a beginner on violin and as far as aI can tell, everything's where it should be.
Re: tuning, I worked the pegs into the hole before I started to tune it. That helps smooth out the two surfaces so they get a little slide together. It made it a lot easier to set.
Couldn't be happier.
Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:
What can you say- It's an inexpensive violin. Decently made and sounds pretty good. May want to get some peg drops to help it hold tune a little better. Unit arrived with a crack in the bow, but as Musician's Friend always does, they took care of it immediately by sending a replacement bow. Can't say enough about their customer service through the years!
