I searched all over physically and online for a decent beginning violin for a good price. I didn't have thousands to spend on each piece and the student instruments were still so expensive!! I took a chance on a "cheap" instrument, going somewhere mid range of the $75-200 price range I was researching.
My final choice was between the Hoffman Amadeus from Shar and this Doreli 79, which I came across the night before I wanted to make my purchase. It was a last minute decision I feared I would regret, but I would suggest this instrument to ANY beginner! Though a novice, I've done my research and knew what to expect.
This violin holds a tune very well, has a beautiful finish (minus a few minor paint or cosmetic issues), is made of good material, and has a beautiful sound. The bow is nice, though one hair is already loose (easy fix).
Case is nice, rosin is good.
I promise, I agonized over this for weeks, but I regret nothing about this decision!

    A Curious Violinist

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

I have been playing the violin for 11 years and been a professional violinist for 3 and I recently purchased this violin, curious of how it would sound, especially being at such a low price. I was pleased to find that it sounded pretty darn good, I really do enjoy the sound. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable nice violin.

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

I ususally will not buy an instrument without hearing it first. However, I took a chance to buy this 1/2 violin for my daughter to use in beginning violin at school. It is an excellent value. The tone is very nice. The hardware is smooth. For the price range this is an excellent choice. All you need to do is set the bridge and tune. Everything you need is in the bag.

    Amazing Instrument!

    By Elissa Prueser

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

As a musician with over ten years of experience, I wanted to expand my musical horizans beyond that of piano and guitar. As a fan of both classical music and symphonic rock, I wanted to start playing the violin more regualarly and decided to purchase one. This was the perfect choice. The sound is phenomenal, the design is beautiful, everything about it is perfect. I knew the basics of playing, and owning this instrument has definitely brought my playing to the next level. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a violin offering amazing value and a beautifully rich tone.
Quality wood, rich sound, beautiful features.
Sturdy construction. Great tuners. Even the included strings are quality.
The fact this violin can be sold this affordably is unbelievable. The case is great as well. The perfect starter package.

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

For a starter or a replacement of a broken violin this one delivers all you need for a price that wont break your bank

I mean look at all these reviews!
Comes with everything you see in the picture

Hardshell case (With soft/firm redvelet inside) + A holder for your bow and compartment for rosins
Comes with small light coloured rosin
    One decent bow
    And the violin

The violin Is very pretty! It works really well - however the strings take along time to work in before they hold their tune - i never regretted spending anymoney on this thing

Everything is ready to go if your looking for a starter violin - you may have accidently found your next medium level violin.
Although it is durable it does appear to be... thin? violin seems to weigh next to nothing compared to 700+ violins but the difference in weight is maybe .5 ounces? Again im a beginner so i wouldnt know much

Light weight and easy to use and transport. Durable case with shoulder straps. Perfect for a beginner, but will need continuous tuning at first because it doesn't stay in tune well until it is broken in. Contains violin, bow and rosin. No extra strings, no shoulder pad.

    Great Value

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

I purchased this violin to learn to play bluegrass fiddle. I have played guitar for 10 years or so. I was a little leery of buying the 79 violin because it just seemed like a ?cheap? violin. But I must say I am very impressed with what you get for the low price. The craftsmanship is not the best. You can see flaws in the finish and trim. But if you are looking for a starter violin you cannot go wrong for the price. Comes with fine tuners nice case and bow. If you have never setup a string instrument from the start I would suggest taking it to a dealer or someone that has experience in setting up stringed instrument, or you will become frustrated before you even start playing it. Other reviews complain about the tuners, but if you ?figure? them out they work great. Make sure you push the tuner in and you will have no problem with them. Use your fine tuners to make final adjustments.Pros:Unbelievable great value for the priceVery nice case Perfect first time instrumentFine tuners includedRosin includedDid I mention how good it is for the price?ConsSome flaws in the finish and trimStrings could be better, but that is a easy fix.

The sound is better than I expected. I'm a beginner on violin and as far as aI can tell, everything's where it should be.
Re: tuning, I worked the pegs into the hole before I started to tune it. That helps smooth out the two surfaces so they get a little slide together. It made it a lot easier to set.
      Couldn't be happier.

      An Amazing Violin

      By Timothy Flanagan

      from Louisiana.

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

The Violin was always my first instrument of choice, and this Violin was the best purchase I could have ever made. The strings produce very beautiful sound and don't break easily, the bow is very durable but takes a while to rosin, any bow takes a while to rosin the first time but its worth the effort and patience for the sound quality. Pegs and bridge are perfect, so no need to change those anytime soon. The violin is beautifully crafted and plays even better, I would recommend this Violin, (Stradivarius) Doreli model 79, to anyone with a passion for the art of music.
The violin stays tuned and tunes easy. A good bridge, durable bow, and rosin are provided, and used with great ease.
The violin is very well crafted and I have had no problems with it so far. The groves for the strings on the bridge are formed perfectly and does not sway when you play, stays in place and is easy to set up. The pegs are good quality and do not pop out during performance.
A violin of this quality and stature should be sold for much higher than it currently is, I love it and use it often.

      Very Disappointed

      By Connie Siefkas

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

I got the first violin for Christmas and it did not come with a manual, but online I figured out how to tune it but it would not stay tuned.... the pegs would slip... when you finally got the last string tuned (even using the fine tuners)... the first string was out of tune very bad. I sent it back and got a second one that had the same problem.... I was very disappointed. Musicians Friend worked with me to find another violin that hopefully would be easier to tune and keep it's tune.... Customer service was good, the product wasn't!!!

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

What can you say- It's an inexpensive violin. Decently made and sounds pretty good. May want to get some peg drops to help it hold tune a little better. Unit arrived with a crack in the bow, but as Musician's Friend always does, they took care of it immediately by sending a replacement bow. Can't say enough about their customer service through the years!

      By Crissy

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

Okay. The strings were very loose and could not be tightened without having to restring two of the four and I'm not quite sure that would have even worked, or if that would have been possible without breaking the violin because it feels so cheaply made; there was dried glue where it had run away from the seams. The bow was also loose, could not be tightened, to the point where you could barely force it to make a sound. The only thing worth any amount of money was the case, but I already have a case. All I wanted was a basic violin that would at least -work-, but I was very disappointed. I am not happy at all with this purchase and do not plan to order anything else from this site.

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

I was delightfully surprised when I saw the reddish stain, which was just what I was hoping for and was one of the reasons I chose this model and brand. Some violins from other brands have a yellowish, greenish brown stain which I hate.

The only flaws I have noticed is the slightly bad varnish job, here and there, which looks to have been machine sprayed, but not too bad. This could always be improved by the buyer who has had a little experience varnishing wood. It would only require a light bit of sanding, using very fine grade sandpaper, and then a single coat of quality varnish. This model seems to have a satin finish, but one could use a semi-gloss or gloss varnish, if they prefer.

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

This is my first fiddle. I can't really say that it's easy to play but after a couple of weeks, I really think I can get the hang of it. Package come with a case which is an added bonus for transporting the fiddle. The bow seems to be working out well and produces sound. The fiddle came Tuned but it was tuned to the wrong octave which confused me at first. It took me a week to figure out that it wasn't a defective violin. It was just tuned way too deep . Over all it really hasn't taken too long to get the bowing of the strings down. I have already learned four songs. I would defiantly recommend this fiddle to someone who is starting to play fiddle, all I have to say is to stick with it. You'll be surprised how far you'll come in just a matter weeks!

Comments about Doreli Model 79 Violin Outfit:

I've had this violin for awhile now, so I feel fairly comfortable listing it's pros and cons. It's well made and has a decent tone. The default strings make the violin sound a little bright/metallic (especially around the E string) - I recommend a set of Dominants with a mellow sounding E-String to obtain a more pleasent sound. The accompanying bow didn't hold up for long. The violin can be difficult to tune - you really have to cram the pegs in there - but the micro-tuners help. Humidity changes will cause the violin to go flat or sharp (as with most tunable instruments), but here again the microtuners come in handy. You will probably need to adjust the bridge a bit. This violin is definitely playable, and with practice you can produce tones that don't sound like a dying cat. It is a good purchase for the money and has held together well over the last year or so. If you find that you like playing the violin you may ultimately want something better, but this is not a bad starter instrument, and with better strings it can sound nice.

I had never played a violin in my life but I think they are one of the most beautiful instruments and after reading the reviews and doing some research, I bought this to get the most for my money. I've spent all my time so far trying to tune it correctly, then after too many failed attempts-I've tuned it so it sounds good to me, lol. The point is, is that it still sounds beautiful! I love to play even if no one else would probably like it... I would recommend this to any beginner.
