I read several reviews and articles discussing the inferiority of Chinese made and inexpensive violins online after I made my purchase. Needless to say I was worried and had planned to return this violin for a refund without even opening it in order to purchase a more expensive violin.

Thank goodness I opened the package. I am thrilled with this violin! I played the violin from the time I was 8 through High School but took a 15 year hiatus. I just wanted a violin to brush up on my skills so this is perfect for me. For the price I got a violin that was set up, a nice light weight case, bow, and rosin.

I tuned my strings and it has played fine. I did not have to upgrade them to make a sound. A couple of hairs came out of the bow but that's OK. The rosin was much better than the rosin my cello came with although I used Dominant rosin instead. I wish they had cases with backpack straps when I was in school!

Maybe I got lucky but I saved a lot of money and have a playable violin with no glitches. Granted I am not planning to audition for the Symphony Orchestra but I think this is a good and solid violin. If you are a student or playing for your personal enjoyment this is just fine.

I know you get what you pay for, but this was far inferior to what I was expecting. They say that poor quality violins are harder to tune than higher quality ones, and this was certainly the case with this instrument. Careful as I was, I STILL managed to break two string. The bridge looks like it's made of balsa wood and the tailpiece wobbles like a loose tooth. Still, I thought I'd give it a shot. After an hour of frustration and two broken strings, I decided I'd been had. The good news is that Musician's Friend has very friendly customer service. When I called (on a Sunday) and told them my experience, they said, "No, problem" to a return. Because of their excellent customer service, I may try a more expensive model, but I really can't spend too much money. So, maybe I'm just out of luck. I am recovering from a recent knee surgery and was looking for something to take my mind off my diminished mobility. Plus, I played years ago and wanted to pick it up again. Overall, gravely disappointed with the product, but very impressed with Musician's Friend Customer Service.

I was surprised...

By Greg Hall

Comments about Florea Recital II Violin Outfit:

Great value...
I'd never held a violin in my life, so when I ordered one for my wife and it came in the mail, I was totally unimpressed. In fact, I thought they sent me a toy and I had been ripped off. I tried tuning the thing myself, and after collapsing the bridge several times and popping off a string, I told my wife it was going back for a refund. (Who knew tuning a violin was so much different than a guitar?:) But before sending it back, I called up a fiddle-playin' friend of mine who came over to take a look. He put the strings on, lined up the bridge, got everything tuned up and said that he couldn't believe the price I had paid. He rosined the bow and then commenced to making that thing sing like a fat opera lady. My only suggestion is if you get one, have somebody that knows what they're doing tune it up. It's definately worth the price, though.

used 1/2 sized

Comments about Florea Recital II Violin Outfit:

I recently received this violin to give as a Christmas gift. I ordered it on Monday afternoon and it arrived on Wednesday with everything well packed and almost in great playable condition, one string was broken but Ive ordered stuff here before and saw it coming, so I was prepared. I am over all pleased with it. It is a beginners instrument, but the value could not be better. The bridge was posted witch was a pleasant surprise, and the bow was shipped correctly and in awesome shape. I obviously wouldn't recommend this particular violin to some one who is serious about learning to play, but I am more than certain a high quality instrument would be as well taken care of on their end. I am pleased with my order.

Very very bad

By Alice-ysgAx

Comments about Florea Recital II Violin Outfit:

Im an experienced violinist and cam across one of these in the hands of a young student. It looks all shiny and nice, but has horrible sound, is set completely wrong, and all pieces are of such poor quality that they spontaneously fall apart. If you want to make a child afraid of playing, for fear of breaking the instrument and for the horrific sound produced, go for it. If you seriously want to play, get something better.

A Match Made In Heaven

By Hatchibakku99

Comments about Florea Recital II Violin Outfit:

I'm a beginning violinist at age 60. With a very limited budget, I chose this violin and kept my fingers crossed. I haven't been the least bit disappointed! I immediately upgraded the strings to Dominants, and used peg drops. I haven't experienced any of the problems mentioned in the less-favorable reviews. A Strad it's not, but it has a pleasant voice. Overall, I'm really glad I made the purchase.

New Player

Comments about Florea Recital II Violin Outfit:

As my first violin, I was hoping this item would at least be of average quality. Boy was I wrong. To begin with, it was really difficult to get the bridge installed properly. The strings are of such poor quality the G string and the E string both broke during tuning. In addition the pegs will not hold tension so that tuning propely is impossible. This thing is not worth the money. I have learned my lesson and have sent it back for a refund and ordered a more expensive violin. My recommendation is, don't waste your money.

Comments about Florea Recital II Violin Outfit:

I bought this as my first violin, and I am suprised with the sound. It can feel a little cheap made, but the overall tonal quality more than makes up for that. You'll definately want to replace the strings and chinrest. Overall a great instrument!

Nice beginner violin.

By Bobtec

Comments about Florea Recital II Violin Outfit:

I got this after getting the mandolin (the tunings, and note fingering principle is the same). The first day I got it, I didn't do much with it because I knew absolutely nothing about applying rosin, and other aspects. Once I called a few people, and got some tips and tricks under my belt, I started to progress more. The violin itself has a pretty good sound. I like the polyfoam case that comes with it, The bow is decent, and the strings are pretty good. The pegs are nothing to write home to mother about (if they're interchangable, Im thinking of putting on some Perfection Planetary pegs. Then if I get a Silver Creek Electric upgrade, I'll have the luthier switch the pegs over to the upgrade). Jazz & blues violin is my challenge now. When I get good enough, I'll go electric.
