Have owned and played it for a year, now. OK for a starter, but I might have been better off spending more and getting the Model 4 bass or another brand. This one's sturdy and has held together nicely despite humidity, heat, and a bit of cold, but came with cheap strings, very high action, and its top noticeably sagged toward the f-holes when the bridge and strings were set. The machine pegs do not tune easily or accurately. It is plain looking--not that beauty you'd like to show off.
I had been shopping in stores,on ebay and other websites for an upright bass to replace my aging and delapidated Mexican-made 5/8 size DB(I play blues,C&W and oldies;I'm also studying classical). Received the Josef Lazar model 12 today and was delighted. The fit and finish was very good;a delightful cinnamon color, not too glossy. The tuners, tailpiece and endpin are robust and equally well-finished. The quality and volume of sound was better than another 1/2 size bass costing more than twice than the Lazar that I have been trying out at a local shop.I chose the 1/2 size becuase a 3/4 wont fit in my Saturn SC-a 3/4 of course will give more sound. I spent over a year shopping for a new bass;I think it would be difficult to find a better value. Dont try to save by buying a low-end Chinese bass;these Romanian basses are good quality and excellent values.
