Comments about Kremona VV-2 Detachable Passive Piezo Pickup with Volume Control for Violin and Viola:

After receiving this product, the color was not what I was expecting. The photo showed a 2 tone stain with the darker color the most prominent, what I got was just the lighter color (No Stain). The darker color would have blended with the fiddle, this isn't a deal killer but they need to update the photo on the website.

Mounting of the control body was not hard, it comes with mounting hardware to fit a violin or viola, although I use a shoulder rest so it did take some experimenting to get the exact location as not to interfere with the rest.

You do have to sand the inside of the bridge eyelet to accept the tone wood incased piezo but, it is very minimal and not hard to do. I tried placing the pickup on the sound post side but when you play on the A and E strings it produces too shrill of a sound and you have to dial in a lot of bass on your amp to get a decent sound. After installing on the bass bar side I could almost go center on my EQ settings. You do get a lot of bow noise but you can hide most it by adding reverb to the mix and when playing with other instruments you don't notice it at all.

I did find that you have to be very careful when unplugging the chord from the jack, you will pull it right off the fiddle. My cable has a straight end but would consider using a 90 degree plug if I could, I am using a Shure GLDX16 wireless unit and it only comes with a straight ended plug.

You have to use a pre-amp with this unit if you need to get up to the volume levels of guitars, bass and drums otherwise your amp gain and volume will be wide open to get enough sound to be heard. When you get to those levels expect feedback and lots of it, you have to keep your strings muted while not playing, but this is the nature of the beast trying to play an amplified acoustic instrument. I have a solid body electric and its not a problem, but I don't get the warmness I got with this setup.

I'm not disappointed just wanted to give an honest review.

Comments about Kremona VV-2 Detachable Passive Piezo Pickup with Volume Control for Violin and Viola:

I really like the sound of this pickup paired with LR baggs DI. Volume knob is a huge plus. The only downside and design flaw are the feet and fragility. It's not very stable on the instrument. I actually replaced the feet with the bottom of my old fishman pickup and it's much more stable. I also don't recommend using regular 1/4in cables with this pickup because the wood is very soft and I actually had one break in half because of the weight of the cable. Use only with wireless if you're doing anything other than sitting and make sure u put it on very securely otherwise it will pull off. I use the line 6 relay g10 with it and it works perfectly.

Comments about Kremona VV-2 Detachable Passive Piezo Pickup with Volume Control for Violin and Viola:

Moving to this in-bridge mounting Piezo unit from a cheap suction stick-on piezo was an absolutely massive improvement that i couldn't have been more pleased with. It may not be the most professional pickup, but for the price, it offers excellent sound quality, an aesthetically pleasing housing, and a very convenient volume knob that i found could be used for added tonal control between pieces. I love this thing, but onto the not so good.

I play in a Texas Country Music band and this piece is great for keeping me in the groove because of its ease of use... when it wasn't falling apart. I found that the piezo piece cracked with relative ease but a little superglue later and it continued working just fine. Later, the jack housing started falling apart from the inside and the input jack wouldn't make a proper connection and the unit wouldn't work. After some minor fixes to get me through the weekend, (at this point, it is done for) Kremona's excellent customer service is shipping me another unit.

4 stars because for such an attractive piece, it is sad to see that it wasn't built as sturdily as i felt required for live gigging. Being that live concerts are considered its best use, i feel it really needs to stay together better. However, its possible i just had a defective unit and with the support of the team at Kremona readily sending me another one, I'm eager to see how well the next one holds up and expect the same great sound quality of the one that came before.
