Comments about P&H 4/4 Size Master Class Carbon Fiber Violin Bow:

This bow looks like a great alternative to all those other expensive carbon fiber bows out there. Its less than half the cost of all other carbon fiber bows. Seems too good to be true... it is. When the bow arrived it looked nothing like the photo. The carbon fiber pattern looks almost printed on the bow, which is probably the case, but i cant prove it. First thing i did was tighten the bow, only for the button to fall off. Thats just one of the problems. I will try to best describe the design flaw. As you can imagine, since its made from carbon fiber, its totally hollow on the inside. Theres nothing for the screw to rest on. The solution P&H came up with was simple; fill the gap in the end of the bow where the frog goes with a molded plastic part with the necessary slot for the eylet and the holes for the screw. The problem is that that plastic part was not attached to the violin bow, and moved about freely. Seems like it wasnt glued properly. This problem made the bow useless. everything else is esthetic. The logo you see on the side of the bow seems blurry and faded, the leatherette grip is too short and cheap, and the "faux whalebone" lapping has this very ugly yellow color. On the other hand, the frog looks pretty well made and the hair changing system looks like it should work very effective. None of that matters if what you end up with is just a crooked carbon fiber stick. Contacted the company and got no response. Contacted Musicians Friend, and it took them almost a week to get me a return authorization. Now im stuck without a good bow and i guess it will be the last time i order from musicians friend. My recommendation: either go try the bow out before you buy or save some more money for a better bow. I will attach a few images to give those thinking of buying it a better view of the problems, but its all worse than how it looks in the photos.
