Comments about Wood Violins 5-String Fretless Viper Electric Violin:
AWESOME! I couldn't be happier, unless another one shows up.
I have to say that I was a little apprehensive about buying a violin of this caliber online sight unseen. Order went through no problem, and it arrived ahead of time via UPS. Again, apprehension because UPS is known for destroying things, much less a violin. Got the package opened it up and everything was not only perfect, but I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I looked over the instrument with a fine tooth comb and plugged it in. Play beautifully! Already played it in a couple shows with absolutely no issues.
As for the Viper itself, I cannot say enough good things about it. It is THE new way to play a violin. All tension on the neck and shoulders is now eliminated and you are free to play stress free. It takes about a day or so to get used to not having to grip it with your neck and shoulders, but once you are past that, the sky is the limit! I have three traditional violins and a viola, this five string is my last violin unless I buy another Wood Viper.
Top Notch!
Little pricey, but once you buy one, you'll be very glad you did.
Comments about Wood Violins 5-String Fretless Viper Electric Violin:
Mark Wood Violin brand are contradiction to itself. I bought the 'Wood" viper because i wanted the best, made in USA, but really i got something that came half baked .
I have been playing the violin for 26 years and do it professionally, classically trained, i perform every week in a duo , teach, and buy sell violins.
I purchased the fretted 7 string sunburst with gold hardware, for a obscene amount of money which i now regret.
While the electronics are state of the art (barbera tranducer) the construction solid, the QC and after sales service is really a let down.
I recieved excellent service , till i got the violin and found that had major problems.
1 the distance between the strings in the lower register at the end of the neck (w that made the instrument almost unplayable. this was because the strings were too far over the fingerboard.
when you tryed to play anything more than a 3rd finger up the neck.
2. The finish... flaming is modest at best, and the laquer/paint is very thin in places that you can see the wood.
3. The bridge was cut with tools too big for the strings, roughly done....and also inncorrect distance cut as per nut - i dont know how this one got through.
4. The instructions for setting up the intonation is very vague , because your suppost to play on TOP of the frets not between them. how the hell can you do that when it buzzes...
so i played inbetween the frets..and wore the strings out in 4 weeks..oops..They cost $200 for pack of 7!!!
5. After 5 emails trying to explain the problems , i just got hand balled around to 5 different people, and had to re explain myself, because i was dismissed that there wasn't a problem and that it was me (the customer) who personally choose the violin in NY to buy...NOT TRUE.
Then finally was told that because i paid less than retail that it was a demo model , i should
pay someone else to fix it and leave them alone. For the kind of money i'm spending i expect top quality product with the best service..instead i'm left feeling like a sucker...
Finally i got a new nut in the mail, but now faced with other problems relating to the bridge..
how to setup the intonation without the buzz, etc
Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.
Barbera duel piezo tranducer bridge,
solid maple wood
gold hardware
softcase
Great sounding violin let down by appalling QC and after sales service
Over priced and all hype....steer clear unless you get it real cheap or setup perfect.
