PA speakers are broken up into two distinctive types: Powered and Unpowered. Powered speakers (also referred to as "active" speakers) have built-in amplifiers. Unpowered speakers, (Also known as "passive" speakers), do not contain amplifiers & it is necessary to connect them to an external amplifier. At Musician's Friend we have a great selection of both types, from the top brands, including Mackie PA Speakers and Electro-Voice PA Speakers. There are many different options to choose from in addition to whether you want powered or unpowered. The Speakers come in different sizes – typically either from 8" to 15" – as well as different outputs. When thinking about how loud you want the speakers to be depends on how they are going to be used. 115-120 dB is enough for a solo acoustic set, 120dB+ is enough for vocals with a band and 125dB will usually be sufficient to enable a band to be audible. This is only a rule of thumb however, so please take the time to think about how the speakers will be used. All our PA Speakers are supported by our price & satisfaction guarantees and free standard shipping now applies to all orders over $25, including many heavy items.
