The pedal steel guitar gets its name from the fact that the pitch of the strings is changed by the player using a series of pedals located underneath the instrument. It is played by sliding a metal bar called the "steel" over the strings, rather like a slide guitar. A pedal steel may sometimes have two or possibly three necks in different tunings. A lap steel guitar is typically placed on the player's lap and a metal slide is used the same way as a pedal steel but is a much simpler instrument to operate. Both instruments have their origins in Hawaii and are commonly used in Country music in the United States. Famous steel guitar players include Jerry Byrd, Speedy West and Pete Drake. As with everything we sell, all of our Pedal steel guitars and lap steel guitars are supported by our price & satisfaction guarantees and free standard shipping applies to all orders except heavy items.
