OVERVIEW

A compact solution for getting 24-bit audio recordings in a variety of settings.

Record stereo or four-capsule omni audio directly to an SD card with the pocket-sized Alesis PalmTrack. This portable digital recorder can capture live sound anywhere and anytime without a single cable. The PalmTrack is perfect for recording quality sound in a wide variety of settings, including rehearsals, jam sessions, gigs, conferences, lectures, classes, interviews, and meetings. The possibilities are virtually limitless.

Recording with the Alesis PalmTrack is easy and flexible. Just insert the included batteries and SD card and press record. You can monitor while recording in headphones and watch the realtime level meters, or just switch on Auto Mic Gain and let the PalmTrack take the hassle out of recording. When you're done recording, you can check out your sound recordings on the PalmTrack's built-in speaker, using your own headphones, connecting the Alesis PalmTrack to your Mac or PC with its mini USB jack, or by removing the SD card and inserting it into your computer's SD card slot or reader.

While you're tracking, you'll be able to easily tell that the PalmTrack is recording thanks to its red Record light. You can easily switch the mics' gain from high to low with the left-side switch, and you can adjust the SD card recorder's input level with the up and down buttons on the right.

This handheld recorder lets you choose between 44.1 and 48kHz sample rates, select an MP3 bitrate from 64 to 320kbps for maximum recording time, or choose uncompressed 16- or 24-bit WAV for broadcast-quality recording. For all-in-one audio and voice recording, the PalmTrack has four microphones housed in its protective grille. You can select two mics for stereo pickup pattern, four mics for omnidirectional pickup pattern, plug your own mic into the Alesis PalmTrack's 1/8-inch mic input, or any line-level source into its 1/8-inch line input.

The Alesis PalmTrack portable recorder also gives you powerful processing onboard, including bass compensation for reducing the proximity effect in close-miked situations, as well as Chorus, Pitch Shift, Delay, and Reverb settings for adding flavor and creative effects to your recordings. There's also an MP3 voice cancelling more that enables you remove vocals from MP3s. On top of all of that, the Alesis recorder even has a handy tuner.

The PalmTrack has a bright, clear OLED display that shows you blue-on-black text and metering information, even in a dark club. It records running on the two included AA batteries, or using an optional power adapter.

Too Hot

By Stromberg2009

from NY, NY

Comments about Alesis Palm Track Handheld SD Recorder:

After messing around with the PT in various musical setting, I can only say that it works well, as long as the band sound is not louder than a lounge dynamics. When the drummers are "hitting hard", you can forget about quality recording. There will be a noticeable clipping, unless you would be putting the device away from where you are sitting(which is not practical since you don't have a remote control for this thing)..Even with the recording level set to 1 out of 15.. This is absolutely disappointing! I actually think the PT is sturdy..it fell couple of times from my desk but nothing broke..it is light though..and should cost less. I put it in a DSI protective case which you can find for really cheap. Also, find an AC adapter for it-I would not trust it with batteries-it will chew them up in couple of hours or less..Hey Alesis, you can do so much better! After all, your reputation was impeccable, until this..

Works for me

By lezlyric

from Salt Lake City, UT

Comments about Alesis Palm Track Handheld SD Recorder:

IT was bigger than I was expecting, though it still fits in my hand. It appears cheap as its plastic parts feel loose when I handle it. I bought it because I wanted the stereo sound when I record my voice students or lectures and it works great for that. I like being able to turn the mic gain up or down depending on how close I am to the sound source I am recording. I believe it works for the price.

Great as long as you only record quiet sources.

By Steffonic

Comments about Alesis Palm Track Handheld SD Recorder:

I own the PalmTrack. I find it very disappointing. Frankly, the gain on the built in mics are so hot that it makes it almost unusable for anything but the quietest of sources. Setting the gain to the minimum setting still results in clipping. While I didn't expect this to perform at the level of higher priced competitors I did hope that it would at least prove functional. It does not.I recorded a concert that I attended last night and it is worthless. Unless you enjoy the sound of digital clipping.Perhaps the gain issue can be addressed in future versions of their firmware but I just downloaded Ver 3.2 and there is no fix as of yet.Call me an extremely dissatisfied customer. If I could return it I would but I didn't move fast enough and now I'm stuck with it. Oh well....Don't make my mistake. Buy something else.

2nd Best for the $

By ShitFaced

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Alesis Palm Track Handheld SD Recorder:

Yes, I would say this is the 2nd best portable recorder for the money, behind the Tascam Dr7, but i am not loosing any sleep over not waiting on the Tascam, when it was on "Backorder". I did find out they are coming out with a new and improved Dr7, but anyway back to the Palm Track. It has 4 omni directional microphones that make the quality exceptional, it is pretty small and very very easy to use! The best feature for me would be the SD card, you can record a jam, pop out the card and put it in your computer and get some CD's cooking, in a matter of minutes. And the space is as unlimited as how many SD cards you can afford! ALesis is using the SWISSONIC MDR-4 technology in this thing, it actually looks exactly like it too! Swissonic is a European company, so they must be good Ha. Buy if you want I dont care. Peace
