        Roland

A handheld 24-bit/96kHz WAV/MP3 recorder featuring a built-in stereo mic and onboard editing.

The compact Roland R-05 WAV/MP3 Recorder is easy to use, affordable, and packed with big-ticket features that raise the bar in its price class. Experience crystal-clear 24-bit/96kHz capture, enhanced recording and editing features, and extended battery life (over 16 hours per charge). On stage, in rehearsal, at school, on the street, in the boardroom—whenever inspiration strikes, the Roland R-05 captures the moment with convenience and quality.

        24/96 Recording
The Roland R-05 provides pristine, uncompressed stereo recording directly to an SD card (2GB included) — up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution. Whether recording directly with the built-in stereo mic or capturing sounds from an externally connected microphone or stereo line input, you'll be impressed with the R-05's detail and clarity. And for worry-free recording, the convenient Rehearsal mode ensures that you won't overload the input.

        Onboard Editing
Even though the Roland R-05 recorder integrates fluidly with computers via USB 2.0, this new-generation recorder doesn't require a PC for editing. For speed and convenience, you can trim, divide, and combine within the R-05. And for those who'd like to apply a high-gloss finish to their recordings, the R-05 is equipped with built-in reverb.

        Rehearsal Mode
In a rehearsal studio, you can make clear recordings of your band, even at high volume levels. The R-05 can automatically set the optimum recording level, and can split the songs for you automatically. It's also possible to simultaneously record a high-quality WAV file for CD production and an MP3 file for file sharing.

        Music-Practice Partner
The Roland R-05 helps you practice your musical instrument or your vocals. You can repeatedly loop a specified region of audio, or change the playback speed without changing the pitch. You can play back a difficult phrase slowly or play back at high speed to grasp the overall structure of a song in a short time.

        For Non-Musicians Too
Musicians will naturally gravitate to the Roland R-05, but this portable recorder is great for many non-musical applications as well. You can record lectures, speeches, and meetings, for example. The Roland R-05 recorder's high-sensitivity, built-in microphone will clearly capture all of the voices in a room. The included windscreen and tripod mount enhance optimal placement and cleaner recordings as well.

        Protection On The Go
When you take your R-05 out in the field to record, protect it with the optional OP-R05C cover/windscreen (#485810) or the optional OP-R05S silicon rubber cover—all allow access to controls and display for protected use.

Comments about Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder:

Maybe if I were getting, say, 4-college credits to add to my associates degree in computer programming, I would have the motivation to learn how to use this thing properly. A professor could walk the class through it and explain why functions explained in the manual do not work in real life. Of course, all the other gadgitry out there is the same, these days. Well made, though.

Comments about Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder:

          I would not have bought.
My right channel mic input failed at 6 months. This was a mainboard component failure, not a blowout or a loose solder joint. Bear in mind that this device is covered by a 90 day warranty.

          A really good, economical recorder

          By Pat Bryan

Comments about Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder:

          It is always reliable.
I record speakers and live acoustic. This recorder has all the features I need, great output, and is very easy on batteries. I usually use a Rode NT4 or AT 822, or the R-05's mics. With all of the complications that can arise in field recording, this recorder is one thing I do not have to worry about.

Retains pitch at slower speed settings, but so good on rhythm.

Comments about Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder:

If you are looking for good resonably good sound during pitch reduction, this product misses the mark.
I bought the R-05 to slow down certain recordings so I could analyze the note structure and play along with it at slow tempos so I could learn the songs. You can do that, but it`s a bit annoying because the rhythm sounds weird. I can`t see myself using this unless it is to make live recordings. The 24bit Wav capability is very good of course. I prefer the Tascam MP-BT1 for slowing recordings down, even though you lose pitch, the timing sounds fine. The Tascam is perfect for drummers. Get one if you play drums. I`m learning a ton of drum moves with the MP-BT1. The Roland R-05 could also benefit from having a line in for your instrument to play along live with the recording...another disappointment. The Tascam also allows you to do that. Roland makes good stuff, and this is well made, but it`s just not what I`m looking for.

          BEST NEW RECORDER FOR 2011!

          By Unnamed User-Qn23x

          from Undisclosed

Comments about Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder:

I've recorded with other handheld recorders and none had quite the recording sound as the R-05. The R-05 is Rolands new line of handheld recorders and its the best new recorder for 2011! Some things that are not listed about this product that I found fasinating is you can record your music off of your multitrack recorder or cassette for instance and easily transfer the files to your computer like transfering pictures from a camera over. There is no unwanted software to install. It is very easy to use and the condenser microphones are very high quality. I have had the R-05 for about 6 months now and I am still learning more things that this thing does.To attach it to a microphone stand you need to order the attachment OP-MSA1 (sold seperatly) If you are recording multiple tracks from a cd, record player, cassette or multitrack recorder for instance, you can set it to where the R-05 will automatically separate the tracks. You can actually use this as a portable mp3 player like an ipod. It comes with a 2gb SD card which can hold up to 2,000 songs! You can set this to start to record your live band or external source when you start playing. There is a switch on the back to set your MIC low to high for whatever environment your in from recording outdoors to a jam session. You can also slow down the playback on the songs to learn hard fast songs, or play them fast to get the general idea of a song. I love this little device and would definetely recommend this to anyone and for the price, its definetely worth it! Easy to use! And high quality! Have fun! Record anything that makes sound! Buy the Roland R-05 and you wont be disappointed!

It's good at higher recording levels...

          By e-4BNfQ

Comments about Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder:

This recorder does well at higher recording levels (128 kpbs and above). At lower levels there's too many high pitched artifacts. I have access to the Edirol recorder and the Sony PCM-M10 recorders. I recorded all three through the internal mic at 64kpbs. The Sony and Edirol sounded fine. The Roland, not so great. At higher levels they all sounded pretty much the same. Don't know why the Roland sounds so bad at lower recording levels. Maybe lower quality parts.

Comments about Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder:

After a lot of investigation into various units, I purchased this unit to record the most difficult instrument, the pipe organ. Its frequency response is outstanding using the interal microphones..no need for externals. It is easy to operate and so far not even a minor glich. The only real reason to use external mics would be for better stereo separation. The internals are omni-directional. Great Value!
