Album-quality recording in the palm of your hand.

TASCAM's DR-05 brings high-quality stereo recording to an easy-to-use portable powerhouse with a size and price that anyone can handle. The DR-05 records in MP3 or WAV format, including 24-bit/96kHz high-resolution audio to microSD or microSDHC media. A pair of all-new microphones handles up to 125dB SPL with the sensitivity to capture every detail. With new recording features like Peak Reduction and Quick Menu, the DR-05 puts album-quality recording in the palm of your hand.

        Premium-quality Sound
Everything about the DR-05 is designed to get the best quality recordings of your music. A new pair of built-in microphones withstands up to 125dB SPL —the volume of a jet plane from 200 feet away—yet still have the sensitivity to capture every detail of a performance. You can add your own microphone or line-level source through the 1/8" stereo input, including plug-in power for microphones that need it.

Internally, the DR-05's digital and analog circuit boards are built separately to improve noise performance, with a low-impedance design to further decrease hiss. A separate power supply is sent to the A/D and D/A converter for even better audio performance. The result is clean sound quality —over 92dB signal-to-noise ratio; under 0.05% total harmonic distortionl and 20Hz to 40kHz response (-1/+3dB) at 24-bit/96kHz resolution.

        Simple to Operate
The layout of the DR-05 has been revamped to be quick and easy to work with one thumb. Operations like recording, adjusting levels, deleting bad takes and adding markers are just a button-press away. Dig deeper to find features like limiting, low-cut filtering, a built-in chromatic tuner, and more.

One new feature that makes the DR-05 easy to operate is the new Peak Reduction feature. This setting automatically sets your recording level by listening to the input and adjusting for the best level. Unlike Auto Gain settings, this one only goes down to prevent accidental distortion after a period of low level like a break. Peak Recording works in rehearsal mode or in record, so if the performance is louder than the soundcheck you're still safe. Used with the built-in limiter, it's unlikely you'll distort your career-making live recording.

Other classic TASCAM features are included, like Variable Speed Audition to loop and slow down music without changing the pitch—perfect for transcribing or learning new music. A Level Align function can be switched on for playback to smooth out any sudden volume jumps, and a built-in speaker is also provided. The two AA batteries are enough to power the recorder for 17 1/2 hours, even while recording at CD quality.

Great little recorder, also own the DR-07.

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

Would recommend this for any level audio enthusiast,
Records well dircect, through on-board mic's, or through Tascam's
stereo condenser mic.Have used all three with great results.
Variable, high-pass filter really is good insurance against that
annoying rumble that can ruin any recording.
I love my little, packable recorders.
Multiple recording formats a real plus. Can record a simlpe voice to MP3, and make a WAV
(C.D. quality recording) with te same device.Like the "pause" feature, great for live editing.
USB or AA battery feature also great,(why I chose it over AAA models that were similar).
So far so good, approx. 2 months use without a glitch.
(Have had no problem with my older, DR-07 either.)
Yes it is plastic, but would you step on an i-phone?
Great value for the obvious quality.

        DR-05 perfect for us

        By Growler

        from Springfield, MO

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

We use this at our church to record the sermon. There are plenty of settings to choose from in order to get whatever quality you desire. Have it patched to record output from the mixing board and have no level issues at all. Just take a moment to read manual if you don't get it, or ask someone who knows. Yes, quality is plastic construction, but come on...it is affordable! Just take care of it. Don't throw it around, transport it in a padded case and it should last.
Recording quality is also very good, granted we are just using it to record mp-3 files of a sermon.

Great recorder, does the job.........built in Speaker is worthless though

        By Brian Chidichimo

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

This Recorder is excellent. small enough to take with you and have when needed.
Has all the features you expect for a solid state recorder.
My only complaint is the built in speaker. Seems you need to carry headphones if you want to listen or let someone listen to the recordings. The sound from the speaker is so faint, it's not even worth mentioning it a feature. Assumed mine was defective, I called thier customer support and was told "oh that's how it's is, you need headphones to hear it".

        Great Value

        By Player

        from Iowa

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

Remember this is both a recording and a playback device. You don't need an MP3 player to playback music if you have this. If you need to practice songs, put them on the DR-05. You have variable speed to slow down a riff. In additional, you can also use the marking function in playback mode, so you can loop a section instantly to loop a riff. If I lost my DR-05, I would buy another one immediately. A recorder and playback device at this price? You are getting a great deal.
The DR-05 design is great. They thought this through when they decided where to put the buttons, how many buttons you need, etc. The buttons you need most often are most accessible. Perfect size. It is large enough you can see the buttons and screen and it is very stable. It is small enough to be portable. It is very lightweight. I carry mine in a padded case.
        Definitely worth the price.

        Tascam DR-05 recorder

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

Records very well in live performances and I was actually surprised at the outcome after recording the band, fairly easy to use, and after some getting used to, it performs very well, with the correct placement you can get C/D quality out of this Tascam DR-05 model
This has the best features in any hand held stereo digital recorder at this price
Not bad, kind of light in the hand but seems to be able to take abuse within reason, I wouldn't toss it around or pitch in a gig` bag, but it's fine.
Very good price on this, for what you get for your money I couldn't find anything better, so it's a great value.

Great little easy to use recorder!

        By Bottleneck Bob

        from South carolina

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

Great inexpensive device to capture your fleeting musical ideas and even do some great live performance recordings. With 17 hours of run time on a set of batteries you wont miss that opportunity looking for batteries. You can also set it up front and let it roll for a couple hours of recording to catch the whole performance and chop it up when you get home.
I recently picked this up from Stupid Deal. I had a DR-07 that I had been using but liked the tuner and trainer funcitons of this that allows me to get rid of my CD guitar trainer. I was recording a live piano concert with a Tascam US-1641 and mics in the piano. I did not have any time to optimize the mic placement so as an added measure I decided to throw this on a Tripod just outside the opened piano. Well the recording from the DR-05 turned out to be as good as the shure mics on the sound board. After a little added reverb to sweeten it up the very picky pianist was extremely happy. He was so impressed with all this gear that I brought that I did not have the heart to tell him that his tracks came from that little blue box,
I do miss the wheel on the DR-07 for advanncing throgh tracks.
No issues so far. As mentioned, recorded sound was great. On mine I noticed some funny very low level water running noises when I was playing back on head phones but this is not in the recordeed tracks back on my computer.
17 hours recording time on one set of batteries! My friend who does professional video and sound and has a more complicated 4 track Tascam that he has not figured out yet wants to borrow mine for its light weight and simplicity.

Tascam DR-05 PCM Recorder is Simple and Good

        By Gene Dunn

        from Northern California

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

Overall, for an entry level and easy to use unit....it rates highly because it results in high quality recordings.

I think for the price, it's great for students wanting to capture lectures and also do a bit of live music recording also.

        Awesome for band rehearsals.
I purchased it as a Musician's Friend "Stupid Deal of the Day". An exceptional value in that it does excellent recording with a minimum of tweaking. The simple intuitive controls are well-placed and easy to use..... lot's of features if you drill down, but most are readily accessible through the convenient ergonomically placed buttons with just a few presses.

3 good aids to getting live recordings decently captured: Peak Reduction, Auto Level and Limiting.... Choose one of these options to get best results in a variety of situations.

You can use a mini-USB to USB 2.0 cable to transfer files back and forth to your computer. In addition, that same cable can supply power to the DR-05! You just plug into your laptop and look for the disk image mounted on your desktop. Open the music folder and you can drag and drop files freely. Nice.

Tripod socket screw hole..... easy mounting. You can attach a wrist strap to it or hang it around your neck for on the fly field recording.

Long battery life and almost 15 hours of recording time on high quality setting with a large microSD Class 10 card. Groovy metallic blue color. (^_^)

I have not tried to record using the direct line input...although I hear that it tends to overload unless tweaked down a lot. Best to use with live mic'd situations.
Controls feel good, however case is plastic and you should take measures to keep it from dropping.

Fit and finish is great. It doesn't look cheap.
For the money, it's an excellent value.....and easy way to get into high quality recording. The placement and function of controls make this easier to use than other similarly priced units.

Got at least as much as I expected!

        By Craig Leasure

        from Maryland

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

Overall, I don't see anything to complain about. The unit does what it's advertised to do and does it well. I had it ready to record in about 10 minutes, after a brief walk-through with the manual, which was well written, I might add.
Has all the features I was looking for:
Wav or MP3 recording, easy recording level set with limiter, headphone out, ability to upgrade microSD storage, high SPL mics, long battery life, and a very SWEET price point.
Some complain about the fact that it's plastic, but to me this plastic looks and feels pretty thick. I think something else would break on the inside before this thing actually cracked.
I recorded our band and was pleased with the results!
I bought this as the Stupid Deal of The Day, and there just ain't no way to argue with what I paid, for what I got!

You can't beat it for the price
Used to transfer 20 cassette tapes to cd and this baby worked easily. The sound quality is awesome and so easy to use.

        as advertised

Comments about TASCAM DR-05 Solid State Recorder Blue Ltd Edition Blue:

Only used it once for a 4 hour session with 7 piece band. put it on a tripod in the middle of the room and it captured everthing better than expected. transferred to file to my PC and edited it down using audacity software. so far I haven't found any negatives.
Does everything its supposed to do. interface is pretty intuitive
I have only used it once - 4 hour practice session.
It was the stupid deal of the day. I was not stupid enough to pass on it! exactly what I was looking for at a price way less than I other similar devices
