I received the DR-07 in the mail a few days ago and my first unboxing thought was, hmmm this looks pretty simple and cheap. I threw in batteries, immediately figured out how to record, set a mic level.. and recorded a few minutes of piano in my living room. I was a bit floored when i heard the result on playback. Great sounding recording right out of the box in 10 minutes. My only complaint on the initial recording is that I had the central air on and it came through on the recording. The user interface is a dream. If you have ever used any kind of computer or small gadget then you can have the features figured out in 30 minutes flat.Since then I have recorded outdoors ambiance with beautiful results. I've also recorded a musician with bass guitar and him singing along, it came out fantastically. The only thing i have not tested this device on is a full sound, such as a concert or rock band rehearsal environment. Hopefully I can edit this review in a few days and reveal the outcome.I have 4 major gripes with this gadget.1. No ac power source included.2. No bag or case to keep it protected. It is my opinion that the DR-07 will break from a 4 foot fall on a hard surface. At least a strap or handle of some kind would be helpful.3. DO NOT handle the device while recording. Handling noise is outrageous. This machine was made to be put on a tripod, hit record and leave it alone.(there is a delay record feature so the record button "push" doesn't show up in the recording)which leads me to:4. There is a camera tripod mount on the bottom of the device, however as I'm a musician, I wish there was an included adapter to mount this onto a boom microphone stand. This is a petty gripe, so I left it for the end. In my opinion.. this device would excel at band rehearsal recording scenarios on a microphone boom stand for surgical placement.

It wasnt a bad product while it was working..I would look elsewhere..
My 1st purchase of this product had to be returned because it stopped working within about 10 days. I purchased a replacement and had it for a bit over 90 days and it stopped working also. The Warranty for labor ends after 90 days thru the manufacturer and I had this for about 100 days so no luck. I called Tascam and was advised it would be $45.00 to repair that was about 1/2 of what I paid for it. I would stay aware from this product..

Awesome recorder for a great price

Comments about TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder:

This is a great recorder to have. I use to record whenI play guitar so if I play something thats cool I caught it on the recorder. I used this to record songs for my buddy's band so they can make a demo cd to take to bars to get gigs. Thye were impressed with the sound and quality and told me it sounded like they recorded in a studio when we recorded it in a garage.

It's also great to record voice. I use it to record my Grandfather's voice to have him tell stories back in the days to where I can make a CD of them.

Comments about TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder:

Reading all the Reviews I thought this product was very promising and so I decided to purchase this recording from Musician's Friend. I'm usually very cautious of buying items from an online source but when I got this item in mail everything was intact (specially when you buy tube state items with glass). When I recieved the recording I was instantly impressed at its quality. I purchased a multitrack recorder from Guitar Center but its recording quality was no where near the 1/3 price of the DR07. The 24 bit processing shocked me. As the higher bit rate increases the more you are aloud to turn up the volume without losing quality. My first recordings could pick up my fish tank from all the way across the room and picked up more sound than the human ear can hear. My intentions of its use was to record my professors in the classroom. Now matter how far the source of the sound was located it projects the professor on my speaker unit. It feels like the classroom is in my room. The device is able to pickup neighboring Pencil squeekes, sneezing and zipers wonderfully. I recently started up my own site on webs.com where I do oral product reviews. When I have to change the settings to mp3 format to preserve bandwidth space no quality is lossed. As well will prevent you from having to convert the 24 bit sound to a smaller bit rate.

Impressive, Compact, Easy to use, GREAT RECORDER

Comments about TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder:

My wife bought me this recorder for an anniversary gift and I was a little skeptical when I say the price and how small it was, I am a sound engineer and a drummer and I run sound and play in bands from metal, blues, and gospel, i have used the recorder to simply record a church service using the onboard mic, to recording a live show using the line input and running a seperate mix from the board, the quality of the recording is surprisingly impressive, i actually took one of the recording from a live show and ran it through my recoring software and mastered it and made a demo that we use to get gigs. It is compact and very user friendly. First recomendation is to buy the power adapter, it goes thru batteries quickly. All in all I will buy another one when and if this one dies.

        Sweet Recorder

Comments about TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder:

I just received my DR-07 2 hours before band practice. It only took me a few minutes with the well written manual to start recording, and I just couldn't be happier with the results. Using the factory settings in mp3 128 kbps mode, and the limiter on, I recorded the rehearsal with no problems. The sound is incredible. All of the instruments and vocals recorded beautifully. I expected my bass to be thin, but the DR07 reproduced the sound as if I was sitting in front of my amp! I'm sure there are better recorders out there, but for the price, this does everything I need it to. I also bought the PS-P520 adapter, which is high quality and well worth the price.

This unit is easy to use and sounds really good.I really dont need alot of features that take up my time trying to figure out how to use. The manual is written sensibly and the menu's are simple to access. The day I recieved this I recorded our duo's rehearsal (Piano with electric, Acoustic and Papoose guitars)Save for the elecric guitar vocals and everything else goes through a Roland 550 Keyboard amp at practice. Also I did some live acoustic guitar and vocals un-miked, this unit sounds so good! I recommend it highly, especially if your an old school guy used to knobs and buttons. Mounts on a camera tripod. Wont break the bank or your spirit.

A Dream that Fits in my Pocket

Comments about TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder:

Absolutely impressed...above quality playback, mic sensitivity and clarity. So easy to use. I'm not one to read product manuals (or write product reviews for that matter) and amazingly never had to refer to it to learn functionality. Paired with a great set of headphones magic....seriously.

Tascan Dr07 Just a awsome Peice of Hardware!!

        By Dj Esp

Comments about TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder:

I bought his unit today. I like it so much that I am writing a review about it. Sound Quality is outstanding. Right out of the box it rocks. Very clean recordings with the full spectrum of Hz and Khz. 24 bit 4800 khz Wav. Easy to learn loads of options. If your looking for a good handheld recorder look no further for the price . Only One draw back is that 3 hours of top quality recording uses 90% of the Batteries. I recommend buying recharging Lithium Ion Energizers they seem to be the best. Look at the mili amps that the double AA's have. 2450 Mili Amps or more . Most cheap rechargeable batteries have 1500-200 MILi AMPS. They don't last long .

        Versatile, Compact, Easy To Use

        By Rockin Rick

Comments about TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder:

I Love This Device. You can turn the sensitivity up so loud that you could record the sound of the fish tank in the next room. Or, you can set it so low that you could record MotorHead live in concert and it wouldn't be distorted. You could use it to record interviews, band practice, local bands, even your kid's Christmas Program. I use it to record my inspired song writing sessions. Much easier than setting up recording gear. It records in either WAV or Mp3 format, each with advantages and drawbacks. WAV files are bigger (you can record less hours of music), but you can upload the files directly to your recording software or multi-tracker. Mp3 files are much much smaller (more recording time), and you can put them on your favorite Mp3 player, but you couldn't upload them to your multitracker. I know you think you sound like Jimi Hendrix. Have someone use this device to record your next gig, and hear what your audience hears! You may be surprised.
