The pot in the picture is not what you get. The pot shown is an older Dimarzio pot made by CGE. CGE is no longer in business. Check out your favorite forums regarding CGE pots.
What you receive instead is a CTS pot vintage style pot (dishback) with gold shaft and gold bushing. The Dimarzio p/n is EP1201 and it is an excellent pot. I bought 3 of these and I have one installed in my Gibson '79 ES-347. The new Dimarzio pot serves as the tone pot for my bridge pickup. The other 3 pots in the guitar are original Dimarzio 500K. Rotation is very smooth with very low rotational resistance and a very natural sounding taper. The new Dimarzio feels and responds just like the other (much older) pots in the guitar. I was impressed!
The CTS-built Dimarzio pot here is an excellent buy. Compare with the CTS-built Gibson 500k pot . Notice the CTS-stamped baseplate on the Gibson. The Dimarzio pot is stamped exactly like this. The Dimarzio name, pot value, and datecode are stamped on the back. Again, the Dimarzio pot is a premium vintage style CTS pot that looks very similar to the Gibson pot.
So, don't get upset that the pot you get doesn't look like the picture. Be thankful that it says Dimarzio and CTS.
Top edge of the brass shaft (at the splines) could use a bit of a taper instead of being flat. Some knobs will go on a little easier.

Bought these because they are advertised to have a more useful taper than other similar pots. Not for me, the roll off is too fast from full resistance. Maybe the first 20% of rotation removes 80% of the resistance. Whatever, huh?
Worse than that, the shafts (both) are a bit undersized for the casing hole and rattle or buzz on some notes. They are in a very resonant semi-hollow and actually rattle a bit if you shake the guitar. These look like they are CTS pots, just branded for Dimarzio. Well, I've been using CTS pots forever and this is the first time I've run across this problem. Won't buy them again!

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:

Had to replace the volume pot in my strat. First used a Fender. Very hard to turn. This was much smoother and a nice taper. I used this with Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, which is the reason for the 500 meg pot - wanted a nice amount of highs to get through, and I understand with these pickups, 500 meg is a good range. Watch out, you may have to replace knobs - I did. This meant I had to change the other two pots, so all the knobs would match! My strat was in pieces on the bench for a couple weeks.

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:

I recently bought 500k CTS dishbacks and the one I wanted to use for volume came in at 409k. That's a long way out of tolerance in my opinion, so I went and picked up one of these from the local guitar store. These Dimarzios have CTS stamped on them in very tiny letters just near the tangs.

Strangely, the CTS pot had an armature made of alum alloy or similar, while the Dimarzio version features a lot more visible brass. The Dimarzio measured 550k. Quite a difference between the two but soundwise I couldn't tell any difference really. You might if you did some really careful recording of the two then compared them.

However, I was really pleased with the sound of both. My Partscaster sounds absolutely amazing with all the new electrics. It's hard to believe it's the same guitar soundwise. And compared to my US Fender Lonestar, well, I've stopped playing that at the mo until I get around to ripping all the electrics out of it and replacing them same as this one. That said tho, I did a total upgrade of the Partscaster's electrics and it's got this fantastic sound which I call 'wire and wood'.

Get a 'no load' if you want a tone control.

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:

These are no better in quality and taper than normal CTS pots (which are what these are). However, there is almost no friction when turning the pot. You could just lube it yourself at home but they're not any more expensive than regulars CTS, so might as well get these. What I do like, is that there is no need to scuff the pot before soldering. These are ready to go and absorb solder quickly, which makes grounding so much easier without having to change solder iron tips. All in all, for volume they're not better than RS or MSSC, but they're half the price.

installed these pots on my vintage Kay for both volume and tone. The difference in sound of the guitar has been a pleasant surprise. Clean tones are sweeeter than ever just by changing to them.

Great pot for the price. If you need new pots don't buy the cheap alphas, spend the two or three more and get a quality pot. Turns smooth. You will have to bore the hole out a little bit but that is real easy to do.

Oh well found a local guy that will trade me some that will work lol just wanted others to know that they are a bit wider. This may be well known but was my first time and was unaware and hope to help.
