Chris Swope, Guitar Advisor and Assistant Program Manager

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and I enjoy playing now as much as I did when I was a kid. I played my first bar gig when I was 15 and have crisscrossed much of the country in a beat-up van pulling a trailer full of gear, just scraping by. But that's rock and roll, isn't it?

I have a deep love of the history of the instrument and have owned hundreds of guitars. I also have a lengthy history of building and repairing them. For seven years, I was Production Manager of Sadowsky Guitars, a great boutique and repair shop in NYC. I had the pleasure of building instruments for many of my heroes both there and at my following gig at Gibson Custom Shop. At Gibson, I spent two years in the Pro Shop and another four in the engineering department, where I was involved with the prototyping of many models.

In 2008, I returned to my hometown to raise my family and I landed this gig at Musician's Friend/Private Reserve Guitars. Now I'm surrounded by about 2000 of the finest guitars ever made. It's been a great gig for me as I continue to learn tons from both the instruments I sell and the customers who buy them. And, I get to check out all the good stuff!

When I was young, Lifeson, Gilmour, Page, Hendrix and Van Halen were some of the musical magicians that first weaved their hypnotic spell upon me. They propelled me on a lifelong journey in search of the ultimate tone, technique and experience with our beloved 6-string. For over 25 years, I've played many styles such as classic rock, heavy metal, progressive art-rock, '80s new wave and even country.

I have a degree in Music Business Management and a diploma from the Guitar Institute of Technology. My jobs have ranged from teaching at local music stores to managing a local music haven. All of these things have led me to this golden opportunity to work with the world's finest instruments and the best team of guitar enthusiasts at Musician's Friend Private Reserve.
