OVERVIEW

Combining compact monitoring with a USB audio interface, RPM3 monitors enable you to simultaneously play audio from and record audio to a computer through the included USB cable. No special drivers are required. RPM3 monitors can easily record professional-quality audio directly from a mixer, keyboard, microphone preamplifier, guitar effects processor or other audio component. RPM3 monitors have also been magnetically shielded to prevent interference when placed close to computer monitors or magnetic media.

The RPM3 monitors provide a host of options to accommodate audio recording directly into a computer including a stereo 1/8" jack, a pair of balanced 1/4" TRS inputs and stereo RCA inputs. Volume control, power-switch and 1/8" headphone jack are also located on the front panel for quick access and easy adjustment.

RPM3 monitors provide full-range frequency response to ensure audio reproduction that is pure, yet compact. The lightweight and portable design means the RPM3 system can be easily placed in a carrying case and taken on the road, allowing for reference monitoring anywhere. If you need quality monitors and audio recording that won't dominate your desktop, grab a pair of RPM3 monitors and start recording.

Compact audio production monitors that record as well as they sound.

I had not heard from Akai as a top make for quite a while. Akai used to dominate the top market of the audio equipment in the late sixties and seventies. But in those days it was only affordable for the "rich" hippies. When I saw these speakers in an attractive offer I was tempted to give it a try. I did spend quite some time comparing options. The USB audio interface triggered my final decission. I never regretted buying them. Out of the box, connect and play. Whoaw ...what a sound. Well done.
The USB Audio Interface feature influenced my final decission to buy these speakers. Good decission. Everything worked instandly. The features are great. I look forward to try them out further with recording etc. So far so good.
Really well made, sturdy, no corners have been cut. The sound is fantastic.
I would prefer a plain black colour though. Also could they make the connection cable between the speakers a lot longer. Now it is a meter or so. Twice as long would not break their bank!
I got a good deal to begin with. Now I know that they are really good speakers with nice features I would not mind paying a little more if I had to replace them.

These are the same speakers as the Alesis m1Active 320 USB speakers. These are just in a different color. At times the bass can be muffled so you will hear a hollowed type response. The build quality is fine but around 8 months of using it, the main speaker would cut in and cut out. But now it's officially cut out. I don't get anything from the main speaker. These are not professional monitors, more like bedroom speakers.

I don't have anything bad to say about these. For a small package they get pretty loud. The sound is clear and I absolutely love it. Hands down one of the best purchases I've made in a long while. Great deal.

Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

I use it in my home studio. Connected to the USB Input/Output, it seems to work well. There was a latency problem when I used another sound card for input and the Akais for the output. The notes I played on the keyboard came out slightly late in the speakers. However, when I connected to the speakers instead of using another sound card, there was no latency issue. It seems that the bass boost might apply to the headphones as well as the speakers themselves, when connected to the headphone port. I haven't tried the rca and 1/4 inch inputs yet.

Good value for small monitors. Variety of input jacks, USB input, bass boost switch, small footprint make this ideal for small desktop recording.Sound quality is as you would expect from 3 in speakers, but better than most others in this price range.Self powered, and easy to transport.Sale price at MF made this a good bang for buck. I might buy another set for my grandson

Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

The good thing about these speakers is that they have no tone control....this gives you exactly what you are putting into your recording as a monitor....The sound going in is the same sound that will be coming out.
If you are using your computer for home recording, do yourself a favor and set your soundcard EQ to FLAT.. This way you will be getting the exact sound you are putting in when playing back. You'll get a better mix that way.... I do feel though that the left speaker doesn't put out as loud as the right (which is the main amplified speaker that sends signal to the left speaker). The bass boost feature is nice....These speakers will give you some thump... As some people have reported that they blocked the air hole in the back for better bass response.....Don't do that....
I haven't used the USB function yet. I have my wiring setup a little different but it works for my situation.
Good buy when these are on sale. I wouldn't pay a hundred for them though....

Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

I happened upon these on the stupid deal of the day and man, am I glad I did. These are exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. For my computer system I had been using a 5.1 arrangement, with little speakers all around the desk and a good-sized woofer that I could hardly ever hear. More often than not one or two of them were knocked down (by me or my cat) to the floor or hidden somewhere out of sight. Plus, I never did care for their sound when playing back studio mixes or CDs; I was always fiddling with the balance and anything I could to adjust them but rarely satisfied. Forgive me, because I mean to sing the praises of these great little AKAI RPM3 within this text box. They are exactly as advertised, lots of power, take up little space and a variety of connection options. The USB connection and changing my output option in the computer to them had them playing within a few minutes. No woofer, but these replaced a system with a woofer I could hardly ever hear anyway, so not a big deal because they have a nice full-range sound to them. The headphone jack and volume control right up front on the right speaker are very handy as well. This was a little bit of money very well spent -- what a great deal! :)

I use this to power my Auto Vari 64 that sits on top of my Hammond L-102. The drum machine sits on top of the organ, and these small speakers fit perfectly on either side of the drum machine. Nice clean sound and they even have a nice little bass boost function that helps the vintage drum machine punch. Several input options, compact size and clear tone make these a great buy and on sale, they were almost a steal. About the same as a decent set of standard computer monitor speakers and these are professional quality.

Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

I do a lot of mobile recording work, going to different locations and turning a room into a studio for a day or two, that kind of thing. I work with lots of independent musicians. Until I bought these, I had been dragging around a pair of KRK rocket 8's. Super heavy. The Akai's are really light and incredibly portable. I got them as a stupid deal of the day, so the discount was well worth the ease of carrying less stuff to do the same job. I wouldn't recommend them for doing your final mixes, but for on the go or at home recording, they're perfect! The only major drawback is the floor of 80Hz. It makes them sound a little more mids-y than whats really going on. Also, don't use the bass boost for recording anything. You will get a completely inaccurate sound. Over all, I'd give them a thumbs up tho!
