Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

These speakers appear to be well made... they look nice. But that's not the purpose of the speakers... they are supposed to be studio monitors, but they are not full range so that is hardly an apt description. The seventy American smackers I paid for them would have been better put towards something with a more flat unbiassed response. These speakers sound toppy.
To be fair, I haven't used them to mix any tracks... I expect that if I do, my mixes would come out very bass heavy. I have a much better pair of studio monitors for mixing... I'll use these for comparison purposes in final mixes when I get around to it. In the meantime they are in my bedroom for listening to nature sounds when relaxing, which don't require a lot of bass.

Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

I hooked this up with my Ipad and it worked seamlessly. USB works for multitracking on the Ipad. It is just two simultaneous track for recording, so it works well with solo tracking.

Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

These little akai monitors do the job nicely! I bought me a new tascam dp-03 from musician's friend, and I needed some small monitors to hear all those great tracks I'm recording. I am a one man band because nobody wants to play with me. So I just record my drum machines and then start layering tracks. I can make anything, from playing heavy metal with a kramer, to playing a pedal steel to a country song, playing analog synths to a dance beat, or using kaosillators and drum machines to make hip-hop grooves. I own all these instruments mentioned and several more and without a multitrack recording system the instruments are useless if you're not playing in a band. And without speakers to connect to your multitracker, you are going to tire your ears out by using headphones all the time. The akai rpm3 monitors have rich, full sound, and they can get loud. Remember, these are NEAR-FIELD monitors and they will sound best on your computer table shelf (well, that's what I got) spaced about 3 feet apart and at a distance of 2 feet from your listening spectrum. The rpm3's bass response is good for monitors of this size, they won't shake the room, but you will be able to hear a clean bass track whether it's bass guitar, synth bass or bass drum. The bass sound is a little hollow sounding, kind of like 80s detachable boom box speakers. The bass boost switch will help but if you want a tighter thumpier bass, this can be improved by opening the enclosures and stuffing some speaker insulation inside them. These are not sealed enclosures, so this can be done safely. I myself tried the speaker insulation and the rpm3 monitors did have a tighter bass, but personally I like the hollow sound better. What really got me though were the tweeters on these monitors. The rpm3's reproduce some of the most crystal clear highs I have ever heard with hardly any distortion at all. Even better than some expensive mackie monitors I have tried. Hi-hat and cymbals sound sizzly and distinct. And on the back of the speaker are all the inputs you need to connect them anyway you like, I haven't tried the usb output yet because I don't know computers very well, but the RCA inputs are all I need. Also, a subwoofer cannot be connected to the rpm3s but I don't like a subwoofer when I mixdown tracks because it hinders you from getting a clear picture of a stereo mix. Traditional mixing of tracks has always been just left and right speakers-and nothing else. If you need more bass sound from the rpm3's, the bass boost switch will give you all you need, but I will also note that the huge bass ports on the backs of the monitors will thump your mix nicely as long as the monitors are close to the wall. There is a simple AC line cord that powers the left speaker instead of a bulky lump-line power supply or wall wart. A plus! And the on-off switch along with the on LED is an added bonus-you will know when the speakers are on, therefore avoiding dangerous pops when you turn on your audio equipment. There are even protective metal grilles on the woofer and tweeter that are fastened with ALLEN BOLTS not screws! Quality construction throughout! For the price paid you get the pair not just one. A fantastic buy! The black finish looks good with the rest of your audio gear, and the words PROFESSIONAL REFERENCE MONITOR on the fronts of the speakers add a sporty look to the enjoy factor of these excellent mini-monitors.

          great product

Comments about Akai Professional RPM3 Production Monitors with USB Audio Interface:

I had not heard from Akai as a top make for quite a while. Akai used to dominate the top market of the audio equipment in the late sixties and seventies. But in those days it was only affordable for the "rich" hippies. When I saw these speakers in an attractive offer I was tempted to give it a try. I did spend quite some time comparing options. The USB audio interface triggered my final decission. I never regretted buying them. Out of the box, connect and play. Whoaw ...what a sound. Well done.
The USB Audio Interface feature influenced my final decission to buy these speakers. Good decission. Everything worked instandly. The features are great. I look forward to try them out further with recording etc. So far so good.
Really well made, sturdy, no corners have been cut. The sound is fantastic.
I would prefer a plain black colour though. Also could they make the connection cable between the speakers a lot longer. Now it is a meter or so. Twice as long would not break their bank!
I got a good deal to begin with. Now I know that they are really good speakers with nice features I would not mind paying a little more if I had to replace them.
