I first used a C1000s in one of the top rooms in the LA area filled to the roof with vintage gear and dozens of Neumanns and Telefunkens of all models, AKG`s the whole shebang. And this mic compared excellently through the sweet custom Jensen pres to reproduce a variety of acoustic instruments from guitar to percussion to berimbau. It was good enough on a platinum record it was good enough for me. I went right out and bought one for myself and get alot of use out of it. Works on vocals too for voices with a slightly lower timbre. Higher voices it takes some work and does`nt flatter them as much. The pattern cap, on off switch and the option of using a 9v battery for the phantom power give it some versatility. Overall a great buy and addition to ones collection in this price range.

I bought an AKG C1000S and was disappointed; on acoustic guitar the upper mids are harsh and grainy. On vocals, the sibilance is quite pronounced. I couldn't find a use for this mic that another microphone didn't do better. AKG makes some great mics but this isn't one of them. Save your money and get their C451B, which is a hundred times better sounding. In the price range of the C1000S, you are better off getting an Oktava mod or an SE mic.

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

I own pair of C1000S they are great for live application and in the studio.they are perfect for piking the high end in every acoustic instrument, I am usually using the C1000S as Over Heads but mostly I like to use it on sopran and mezzo sopran vocalists it is just bring more air and clarity to the voice in high pitch.

Professional Musian and Engineer.

By Guy Pernetti

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

I started performing on a Sure Vocalmaster PA and many different pairs of mikes. Over the yeare of stage and studio recording I've used about every kine of mike in the business. There are many excellent products on the market, but for live performing with an assortment of acoustical guitars, The C1000s has ben the best for me. The sound of a Martin or Gibson or even a Dobro was reproduced so well that audience members comment about how good it sounded nd that they could hear the differences of each instrament. At last was what I thought when I started using this mike. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it. Regards

Great for video

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

I own a pair of these and really love them. I bought the first one to use as a boom mic in some zero budget film work I was doing. the hypercardiod adaptor was great for isolating the tallent from the background noise. the 9v batter ment we could go strait into the camera without phantom power.I have also used the pair set up in an x-y pattern to record bands from the back of the room and had great results. I have used this going into my mackie board and into my M-Audio 24/96 flash recorder. A great and versital mic for hobbiest and professional. Also great and durable for news gathering.

Great Microphone for Live or Studio use

By Thom Johnson

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

If it were stolen I'd buy 2 just so I wouldn't be without one.
I have used this microphone in live performances as well as in the studio for vocals. Very powerful and clean this mic reproduces vocals extremely well and I've own a ton of them over my 44 years as a professional musician.
Has been used live for the past 11 years and I purchased it used and has never let me down. I carry it in my cord case along with expression pedals, effect boxes, etc. (everything you'd find in a keyboardist bag of tricks.) And has never once been scratched or damaged and that is saying something.
I am going to buy a few more for the studio to go along with the one I currently use.

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

This mic is great for some purposes and not so great for others. Live sound is incredible! i use it on mandolins and acoustic guitar. Now, i tried recording with it, and i realized not to record with it! it totally flopped in the studio, sound was bad. but for live sound , it is great and the built in battery is great for those gigs with someone who doesn't have a board with PH. power.

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

Will do whatever you need. The suspiciously simple plastic caps that alter the patterns and response will surprise you. Any acoustic music instrument will sound better. Tough, I use one daily and without special treatment. Great for live setting where one mike will do a variety of tasks. A few of these will easily handle choral, orchestra settings from omni coverage to very directional solo isolation.

Swiss Army Knife of Mics

By RaulYbarra

from Edwardsville, IL

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

That's what I've heard this mic called and I agree. I use it extensively as a utility mic in studio and on stage for everything from solo/choir to guitar cab to drum overheads to bassoon. Very clean, little coloration, highly accurate. Runs off 9V if no phantom is available. No matter what else is in your mic locker, you'll find use for a pair of these.

Great choir mic

By soundman87

from New Jersey

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

This mic is great a miking large vocal groups. I have used them to mic almost 140 people. The one thing I don't like about this mic is its harshness when used close-up. From a distance, the condenser element cleans this up and the response smooths out a bit. Make sure remember the 3-1 rule when using these in stereo, and you will be greatly rewarded.

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

Bought this on recommendation from a sound guy and was not disappointed. Works great on my dobro which is very hard to mic to get a good sound. Seem pretty tough and I found the best sound 8" to 10" from the instrument.

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

When I first bought this mic, I had only read about it and based my expectations solely on that. Once I plugged it in to my yamaha 16-track, I felt differently toward it. This mic is great for many applications. I mostly use it with the 16-track. I've used it on acoustic guitar, overhead drum, snare/tom, vocal, and various acoustic instruments/sounds. The vocal area is probably not this mic's strong point, but it doesn't sound too bad with a little eq tweaking and effects. As for the other acoustic apps, sounds fantastic. I am in love with this mic and I'm planning on getting another to begin the acoustic drum set with two of these overhead.

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

There are a ton of home studio equipment options out there these days and tons of inexpensive condenser microphones. Wasn't always that way. AKG has made this microphone for years. I got my first pair like back in '96. They are still going and so are the second set I got a few years after that. They can take quite a bit of abuse. I'd say they work best for drum overheads or for a durable x/y stereo recording - but their size makes them pretty good swiss army knife microphones. Their durability and usefulness makes them good live mikes.

    Great for Cello!

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

I used it to mic my cello during rehearsal. For the first time I got a clear, big sound that cut through electric guitars and drums. For cellists it is usuakky difficult to achieve loud and clear amplification, and this is a very good option. Using a 9 v. battery you don't need fanthom power, so with a 1/4" adapter you can plug it right into a bass amp.

    The little mic that CAN

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have one condenser mic, this would be the one to take with you.No phantom power? Pop in a decent 9 volt battery and you are on your way - for a long, long time. Current drain is minimal. This model was my first condenser mic and I've recorded everything I could think of with it. It's only real weakness is you have to work for that sweet spot sometimes. Live, it is an absolute killer drum overhead. Fiddle and mandolin players should consider owning one of these, you will make the sound tech look good!I did a live call-in to Santa show at a local TV station when the talent's wireless units (the station engineer just HAD to use these) quit working. I took my trusty C1000 and hid it on the coffie table. It picked up both Santa and his Helper for the rest of the show. At the board I rolled off the room noise and all went well. For the money you can't go wrong owning at least 2 of these.

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

I bought the C1000S about 16 years ago and it has never let me down. I originally needed it because my 4 track didn't have Phantom power. I later got a Mackie 1202. But I've used this thing for vocals, overhead drums, acoustic guitar, classical Guitar, live performance. It's been dropped more times than can remember. This along with my Sure 57 were all I had as I was starting out and never failed me. Sounds great. I Now a few different mics for different things but I'm really glad I bought this when I did. I still use ounce in a while.

I own a pair of these and use them on everything instrumental. Acoustic guitar, cymbals, hi-hat, saxophone, you name it, it just sounds better through this mic. More detail and flatter response than many "instrument" mics. I'm thinking I'll soon own another pair for drum overheads.

    Good All purpose condenser

    By t-bone-oFio4

Comments about AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone:

I bought a pair and have been recording with them for about 2 years. I use them for overheads on drums, and on acoustic guitar, madolin, fiddle, performance was good. For vocals, they were ok, I wish they were a little more sensitive. Used once live for accordion with the hyper-cardioid capsule, the accordion cut through the mix unlike other mics.Best condenser for the price. I've bought a few cheap condensers, and it was a waste of money. Spend the extra bucks, it is worth it.
