I bought this mic a year and a half ago. Very flat response, very true to whatever you put in front of it. I have this mic and the previous version C414B XLII - i prefer the XLS model as it doesn't colour your instrument. It does work quite well on vocals as well even though AKG doesn't advertise it as such. The new intermittent patterns are the hidden gems on this microphone. i.e.:2/3.
Try it out! You know once you've tried it you're going to want to go home with it!

There are many good mics, as we all know. Many are good at certain things. If you only had one mic, it would be hard to beat the AKG C 414 XLS Condenser Microphone. Better yet a stereo pair. Any acoustic instrument, many vocalists, drums and percussion, my own mandolin sound rich and detailed. The clarity is beautiful.

I've been in the recording business for almost 35 years and this is one of my main go to mics for all things acoustic. For grand piano I'll use 6 of these. 4 on top of the strings hi to low and front to back, and I'll place 2 more under the sound board. I have 26 gold, silver and 2 platnum albums to my name now and I've used just about every name brand there is, the AKG 414 is one I started with and I will keep on trusting in it. I know there pricy but trust me, and work up to one. You won't be sorry. JB
