AKG

A live performance vocal mic designed for singers in high-volume bands.

The D5 dynamic vocal microphone for lead and backing vocals delivers a powerful sound even on the noisiest stage. Its supercardioid polar pattern ensures maximum gain before feedback. The D 5 stands for a crisp sound that cuts through every mix.

AKG made the first microphone diaphragm ever whose thickness varies across its diameter. The Laminated Varimotion diaphragm deep-drawing process allows the diaphragm itself to be fine-tuned with no extra tuning resonators, leading to a quantum leap in audio performance.

The dual shock mount eliminates any kind of mechanical noise for trouble-free live use. The audience will hear nothing but the pristine sound of your voice!

Features

  • Frequency response optimized for vocal use
  • Integrated wind and pop screen for effective suppression of pop and breath noise
  • Frequency independent supercardioid polar pattern for high gain before feedback
  • Patented AKG Laminated Varimotion diaphragm
  • Shock mounted transducer element reduces handling and cable noise
  • Extremely resilient, spring-steel wire-mesh cap for extra impact resistance

Be heard over the roar of your band with AKG sound quality to boot.

Great sound, but connection wear out

Features:

Standard features... Fantastic range and clarity of frequencies.  Minimal feedback in loud, rock settings.  Can produce more feedback if compressed.

Quality:

These things break.  I have owned three of them (AND two of the C5) and the connections have worn out on all of them.  I was in my second song on the last one when the connection totally fell apart on me.  I have used all new cables, and it's the mics.  I think they are better dynamics than pretty much everything out there, but I'm sad to say I can't buy them anymore.  Just too unreliable.

Value:

Great value for the sound, but if you are concerned about them shorting out, then it's not worth it.

Overall:

So many mixed feelings about these.  If only they didn't break!

Wow!!!! What a steal!!!!!! For about a year now, I have been singing in our worship group at church (as well as guitar) and had been using a cheap back up mic we had in our stock room.  It wasnt very clear and just was overall not very good.  Our guitar center guy recommended this for us to use and I was blown away!  This mic is so clear.  It is comfortable to hold and works great on a stand.  The vocals are crisp, clear, and clean.  It also features feedback prevention, and I have yet to get feedback (even our old $600 mic the other singers used at the time had feedback).  Not only is it functional but also looks cool.  The flat top is stylish and comfortable for singing.  This mic is great, inexpensive, and a dream to use and record with.  Get it now!!!!!!

Oldsong

Features:

The sound from the AKG D5 mic is so clear it makes you wonder why Shure even bothers to make the SM58.  The first time I introduced the D5, The audience noticed immediately and many commented on the quality of the sound after the performance.

Quality:

This mic has been set up and stored weekly for about a year.  It has been handled by people who hardly know which end of the mic to hold and looks and works as good as it did on day one.

Value:

I've tried a number of other mics in this price range and you can't touch this one with anything even twice the price.

Overall:

I've used this mic exclusively for vocals in school gyms. The sound is incredibly clear.  It works well on voices from low to high with clarity that is unmatched.  Also, this mic has vertually no handling noise which is great for non-professional users.
