I was looking for some vocal microphones that were better than the Nady SP-5 microphones that we are using. These were a "Stupid Deal" - so I tried them. VERY sensitive. I could literally scrape my fingernail down the XLR cable and hear the microphone pick it up. I could tap the floow near the stand and have the microphone pick it up. I WOULD NOT recommend these for stand microphones. I am going to fly these above the stage are and use them to pick up sound for concerts and such. That way they can be "isolated" and I won't have to worry about performers and speakers handling the microphones.

Comments about AKG D8000M Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I'm a musician and professional sound engineer with 35 years experience and have worked with many brands/models through the years. I needed some extra dynamics in the toolbox and couldn't pass them up at the price on sale. Found they aren't as sensitive or have as much dynamic range as a SM58 but will do in a pinch for a horn or tom mic when doing sound for a larger band and lots of mics are needed.

i would recommend these mics as filler mics in your arsenal for live sound when you need to get many things mic' up. A decent mic for the price I paid and I'm sure they will be serviceable for my needs.

Comments about AKG D8000M Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I'm a part time church sound guy. I have done sound for an advent service in the church parlor for years. I run my mix into the installed system, that has ceiling speakers. In years past, it's been a bit dicey getting adequate gain before feedbackwhen someone who is soft-spoken or more distant took a turn doing a reading. The ceiling speakers adjacent would be a problem. These mics are enough narrower than a standard cardioid to cure the room of ring. They sound excellent in this role. Highly pleased!

Comments about AKG D8000M Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I bought this on a big sale. It is acceptable with a good sale price.
The frequency response is fairly good for a cheap dynamic if the sound source is VERY close. If the source moves away by as little as an inch or two, the response will fall drastically. I haven't used it yet as a room mic, but I wouldn't be surprised if its signal would be so low at a distance that it would be down in the noise floor unless it was a loud room.
For the sale price, I'm not too disappointed that I purchased it for my studio to have another unusual cheap mic, but I have some DRI-1000 mics (cheap copy of an SM-57 that I actually prefer over an SM-57) and the DRI-1000 is significantly better in most respects than this D8000M and when the two mics run about the same price at MSRP and also end up about the same price when they are in good sales.
I guess the huge proximity effect could be advantageous for preventing feedback, but I'm not sure I'd want to use this for a live application due to the handling noise - it would need to be on a stand. It is surprisingly heavy and rugged feeling for a cheap mic, though.
I'd recommend looking for a deal on the DRI-1000 rather than this, though, if you really need low cost mics and don't care about handling noise.

The clarity of this mic truth a pop filter on shock mount used for recording is exquisite. I'm applications where I would normally have used an sm58 I recently switched to using the om2 which has now been replaced by this piece. Absolutely shocked at the quality, clarity and durability. We now have 6 in rotation.

Comments about AKG D8000M Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

Me, mid 50's. 3rd gen. of a family of Broadcast Engineers. Musician/sound pro since 13. Afflicted with Pro A/V gear OCD &... "mike collector". From 20's carbon, 40's & 50's ribbon mikes. German "hi-end" Telefunken, Grundig, Neumann, etc. To "industry standard" brands, PZM's & lately experimenting with arrays of Cirrus Logic MEMS mikes. "old school", new mikes... everything. I also converted a walk-in closet to be my anechoic test room, where the D 8000M was tested & was able to watch usable freq. responses, down to 38 Hz, to a bit over 19k. Quite flat at it too. Subjective "golden ear" observation?. Live on good analog Allen & Heath, Soundcraft, Mackie & a late 90's Behringer mixers; much better sounding than the "go for" 58/57's, EV's N/D & PL's... or the Audix & Audio-Technica dynamics I have. Similar comparisons on Presonus & Behringer digital mixers. Vocals, flute, oboe, bari/tenor sax. Trumpet, Andean pan flutes, congas/bongos, cajon, pandeiro, accordion, drum set or miking AER, Fishman & Roland acoustic amps in nylon/steel guitars... this Musician's Friend AKG made mike surprised me with it's flexibility & transparency. On the anechoic chamber, I hooked it to Manley, Avalon, Neve & Universal Audio pre-amps; then read what was doing with pink & white noise generators... through Carver & McIntosh amps on EV Sentry, KRK & an older Event monitor. For "good measure", a White Instruments analog parametric EQ was used to boost/over-drive frequencies. Comparing it to the similar AKG D5 & D7's, which are well used/worn & gained some more low end & coloration; what the scope & spectrum analyzer showed me, utterly confirmed what I'm hearing. Wow !!!. Aging & usage will be the long term spec to watch... being this such a bargain. I originally got these D 8000 M's to replace the full of spit 58/57's, setting aside the darker sounding EV PL's & boomy N/D's. Or finally stashing at home my beloved CAD95's & EV RE11/16's. Kudos Musician's Friend. Heck of a mike & deal !!!.

Comments about AKG D8000M Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

this is a sleeper mic , very inexpensive, but delivers the big bang for the buck . you'll never get sound quality like a beta 58 or sennhieser 935 but , those mics are 4 times as much . the sound you do get is desent, and a good value.recommend you put a windscreen on while singing vocals. and removing it if you use it to mic an instrument.

Comments about AKG D8000M Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

If you are looking for a Shure SM58 for less money forget it! That microphone doesn't exist, This mic is as tough as a Shure but it doesn't have the smooth, warm, pleasant vocal handling of the SM58. It is a good mic for amateur recording or performance. Good for speech but not for pro vocals or recording. It just doesn't have the presence of an SM58.
