Wow. Bought these and got more than I expected. They seem light and very fragile, but these things take a beating, from dropping, yanking on the cord, hitting with drum sticks and anything else you could imagine to happen in a studio, and they work fine. One of the best buys out there.

Just received my order. It arrived quick! I been using the K-55 a week now. Good construction, solid. The headphones are a little bigger than the photo. You will perspire since they cover your ears. Bass is there, but treble is poor; not so crisp. Guess a it's adequate for the price. I like that the Cord is beefier than most wires using 1/8" plugs, so I can see them lasting longer than the typical cable.

Ask me a question

I like this set of headphones for recording. You might want to adjust the bass down a bit during recordings. You get more than you would expect for the price. They're the most comfortable headphones I've ever used and I'm ordering another set when I'm through writing this review.

I've had a pair of these headphones for a couple years and they've held up great. Not top of the line but that's not what I paid for. Great for standard listening, so so in the studio.

Great Sound, Weak Cable

By www.occasionalmonster.com

I bought two pairs of these, and one had weird phase cancellation and spotty sound after less than a week. I love the sound that they produce, but the cabling is pretty weak. The issue is that the 3 conductors in the cabling are only insulated by some sort of colored coating. It doesn't take much for this coating to wear and short out. Buy these and replace the cables. You'll be in good shape then.

These AKG K 55 headphones are light weight and comfortable.Closed back ears might sweat alittle mine have but they don't ache. They have a nice sound and help isolate sound at ear.I run them out of my Digitech RP 350.For what I need and cost wise there good.

They finally gave out!

I've had this model for over 5 yrs now (2 pair) they're nothing really fancy - a simple look and design, but a great sound and value! I'm a drummer and work a lot in the studio and take these with me as they sound better than any I've ever used or owned at ANY price! (many studio engineers have agreed!) and they stay on mt head rather well. They also take a modest beating (I'll drop them off my head occasionally), surprising seeing how they are so lightweight. It was only this week the left side started to slowly fail while in my own studio practicing. I searched around and looks like I'm ordering another set today - With a little more restraint from dropping them so much, I suspect they will last a while longer! LOL!! I'd really like to see a model that has user replaceable drivers!

I use it for everything.

There's really not too much to say about these headphones, other than they're comfortable and sound great. I'm a guitar player and I use it to plug into my practice amp, or use it for listening to my iPod or CDs. I have never used them for studio use (nor have I used a studio) so I can't tell you how they work for that. But all I can say is if you want great headphones with great sound without spending an arm and a leg, get these.

PERFECT

By jweb

from Mitchell, SD

These headphones are perfect for what I needed them for, which was basic listening while practicing guitar. They are so light weight you could almost forget you had them on. They also so really good, I had a pair of Numark headphones, and those come nowhere close to the quality that these headphones produce. For the price, they can't be beat.

Clean, Crisp, Comfortable

By Craig-fazPO

from Mount Pleasant, MI

I purchased these AKG K-55 after my Aiwa HP-X222 lost their left channel. I was mainly looking for a good studio headphones that would be durable and comfortable. They are lighter than my Aiwas and have a higher quality ear cup. The self adjusting headstrap makes it feel as if they are floating on your head while remaining stable. The sound is very clear and natural with very good range. Good value for the price, and Musician's Friend incredible fast shipment.

Excellent value for the studio

By vlrecording.com

from Cottage Grove, OR

I am a studio owner, and have purchased about 30 pair of headphones over the past 15 years. I am replacing all my Sony 7506 phones with AKGs. I bought 2 pair of the AKG k 55's as a 2nd tier low end headphone, but was impressed with how much more open they sound versus the studio standard Sony 7506. Not sure how durable they will be, but they seem to be made well. Great value.

Comfortable, not really...

By TheKerouac

from Michigan

I've had a pair of these headphones now for about a year. They're really nice for listening to MP3s and the like, but somewhat misleading for any studio applications. As for the claim that they are very comfortable, I'd warn you otherwise. They're rather heavy and begin to hurt the tops and rears of one's ears after a couple hours.
