I bought these in preparation for recording a country/bluegrass album in a small cabin. I knew I wouldn't be able to monitor on speakers - or even in a separate room - so I needed something that would provide an honest representation of the sounds I was recording while having enough isolation and blockage to hear over the volume of the performance. These headphones did the trick very nicely. When I returned to my studio to begin mixing I discovered that these were more detailed and less fatiguing than my KRK Rokit 6 monitors (I promptly rented a new pair of speakers). These excel at clarity, definition, and stereo imaging. I find them to work particularly well with acoustic music. If your primary interest is in finding a pair of "exciting" headphones for listening to modern, hyped sounding recordings then I would suggest looking elsewhere, as these are rather lean in the low end. I use a pair of DT770 Pro headphones for enjoying big kick drums and for tracking electric bass. I would never use those exclusively as my headphone reference however, as they have a rather scooped midrange as well as slightly more aggressive upper-mids and highs. When I want to hear what's happening in the midrange or to enjoy the "natural", woody qualities of instruments I turn to my AKG 271's.

I really don't know what to make of these headphones. I've been using the ATH M50's for a long time so maybe I'm used to those but thought I'd give these a try for mixing. These are more comfortable than the ATH set though heavier but the thing I noticed right off was that the volume on these is so much lower than the ATH headphones and there is no bottom end to these at all. These are touted to be neutral for reference in mixing so I'm hoping that will translate. These sound so much different than any other set I've ever had it's something I'll either get used to or get rid of. I would suggest BEFORE you buy these you find them somewhere and try them. I do wish now that I had done that.

Comments about AKG K271 MKII Headphones:

Great sounding set. I have a small head and these are comfortable yet stay in place. I've already had a few long mixing tracking and mixing sessions and no fatique. The bass seems to be more true to the bass levels than my old cans. I love that there are 2 different removable pads for the earpieces. Very good buy.

Comments about AKG K271 MKII Headphones:

I went to my local music store, and tried these headphones alongside the ATH-M50's, SRH440, K171 MKII & the MDR-7506. Out of all of these, I picked up the AKG 271 MII's. The bass aren't as present as the ATH-M50's, but they sound more present, and have greater depth. You can clearly make out which sounds are "further" and which ones are "closer". READ THIS! My only complaints are that my gargantuan head seems to put a lot of stress on the thin elastic wire that pulls the earphones up, creating a comfortable floating feeling. So, the looped wire on my right ear broke. I resorted to shaving down a bit of eraser, and sticking it on the headband itself, to keep the right ear from feeling WAY OFF! Overall, amazing headphones, great value for the money, but big heads beware!

Comments about AKG K271 MKII Headphones:

I discovered these headphones during a two-year stint at a local pro recording studio. They were absolutely excellent for long sessions. I wear glasses so they were great because they did not dig my glasses rims into the side of my head and they are light. They have excellent audio quality and a little known feature is that you can peel one side off of your ear and that side then shuts off audio output. This allows singers [mostly choir members] or string players to hear themselves while also hearing the playback without adding any monitor bleed in the mic. Great great design.

Comments about AKG K271 MKII Headphones:

Great product. The main feature I really like is comfort. After recording hours and hours of tracks I often find I forget I even have them on my head. As far as audio quality is concerned these are excellent for the price you pay. Surprisingly they supress background noise quite well. Hands down I would recommend this to my best of friends any day.

Comments about AKG K271 MKII Headphones:

Although its a decent price for the components, I was expecting something made in the country it was engineered. These are infact made in China and NOT in Austria, as the picture here would suggest.

With that said they are very nice headphones so far. Well balanced. Lighter than expected. And I like the switch to mute when you take them off. Ive only had them for a week so only time will tell at this point if theyll hold up.

Comments about AKG K271 MKII Headphones:

I'm going to start this off by saying I have used a huge amount of crap headphones. I've been through Boise, Sony, and some nockoff brands looking for true clairity. These blow what those brands make out of the water (including Sony Studio headphones). For "easy listening" with a standard jack into an mp3 player or computer they are top notch. I watched a movie with them and could hear even greater definition then in my 5.1 surroundsound system, which was impressive. For music applications they are perfect in every way. I have hooked this into my Line 6 Pod and everything I throw at it is amazing. Perfect for practicing late at night, sounds better then any practice amp I have ever owned. The most impressive thing about these headphones is the clarity while may things are happening. With cheaper headphones clipping can occur when many instruments play in unision (such as classical) and it can dull the clairity of the indivudual instruments. Not so with these. During a playback of Mozart's "Marrage of Figaro" I could easily pick out all the seperate instruments playing out their part, the closest thing to a live performance I have ever heard, period.

I recently received these headphones as a graduation gift and couldn't be more happy with them. Every instrument is heard with clarity. I am still breaking them in so the sound will continue to get better. I was listening to "Bang Bang" by Dispatch and it felt like I was in the recording studio with them. Don't buy these headphones if you have low quality music (125 kbps) because it will sound mediocre. Use these for high quality (225 kbps) music. Dave Matthews used these headphones to record his new CD. If Dave uses them they have to be good.
