OVERVIEW

A wireless system ideal for an exceptionally wide range of applications.

The Perception Wireless Instrumental Set comprises an SR 45 receiver and PT 45 bodypack transmitter, the smallest and lightest transmitter in its class. It can be used with many AKG miniature microphones, and the battery compartment cover doubles as a convenient tool for setting input gain for the application at hand.

The system comes complete with a universal power supply with US/UK/EU adapter, MKG L cable with ¼" jack plug and mini XLR connector, and one AA size dry battery.

In combination with the C 519 ML (sold separately) also suitable for wind instruments.

SR 45 Stationary Receiver
The SR 45 Stationary Receiver delivers a diversity system, professional XLR and Jack outputs, and the SMPS solution. The audio level and squelch threshold are adjustable on the receiver. It is a stationary receiver for use with all transmitters of the Perception wireless system.

The SR 45 operates within a switching bandwidth of up to 30 MHz in the 500 to 560 MHz UHF carrier frequency range and offers up to 8 selectable carrier frequencies.

PT 45 bodypack transmitter
The PT 45 bodypack transmitter lets you use both dynamic microphones and condenser microphones operating on a supply voltage of approx. 4 V. Naturally you may also connect an electric guitar, electric bass or keytar.

The PT 45 operates within a switching bandwidth of up to 30 MHz in the 500 to 560 MHz UHF carrier frequency range and offers up to 8 selectable carrier frequencies.

Overall, it's a great value. It has all the basic features I need, works really well and is really easy to use. Not much more to say than that.
I only give it a 9 on features b/c I know there are other wireless systems out there that have a lot more features built-in (channel scanning, etc, etc.) But you sort of know that you're not getting all of those fancy features if you're buying this product for the value. And I don't need all of those extras. I just need to be able to rack it up, set it to a channel and go. Give me a squelch control setting and an output gain setting (which this system has both) in case things get nutty sound-wise, and I'm good to go. To me, the big "pluses" were NOT having an antenna for racking it up and taking only a single AA battery. (And the no antenna doesn't effect the its performance, even in a rack.) Other than that, the thing is really simple and easy to use. I literally bought it, drove to the gig, plugged it in and played - no problems.
Well the first test of an instrument wireless is to see if it does anything to the tone and then how it handles high gain from a guitar amp. I A/B'ed it between being plugged directly in and running through the wireless and the tone was exactly the same. I only had to tweak the gain control up like a degree or two to even the output a bit. That was it. The next test was seeing how far I could go with it. Now, at this point I had the thing racked up, so I ran off the stage and to the back of the bar, in the bathroom and the signal was strong the whole time.
Well, obviously, I think this is a great bang for the buck. And I've always been very happy with AKG products that I own - mics, headphones, etc. I feel they are really good at delivering a really solid product for a few dollars less than the competition. So I figured, what the hell, let me give their wireless product a shot. It's been great so far.

I got this 5 years ago and it was faulty out of the box, I did a couple of exchanges with AKG customer service until I got a good one.
This one lasted 5 years and a couple days ago started cutting in and out. Went to try last night for Church and it would work at all. Either the cable, or the antenna went out.
It is a flimsy plastic so I might switch to Shure now instead.

Comments about AKG Perception Wireless Instrumental Set:

I'm pretty impressed with this little gem! I have yet to have any extraneous signals move in on my groove and as near as I can tell the battery lasts 3-4 hours. I bought a four-pack of rechargeables and a cheap charger and just change it after two sets and have had no problems whatsoever!

Comments about AKG Perception Wireless Instrumental Set:

All is good. Wireless systems have come a long way. Been playing/touring for 30 plus years. Have ownd several systems in the 80's/90's only to experiance signal loss, drop outs and a noticable loss of tone. This system is so far so good. All guitars, Fender, Gibson, Jackson are coming through my Marshall JCM 2000 LOUD and clear. More expensive units out there but if you want to replace a cable for mobility and a bit of showmanship....this is the one. Nice piece of gear.

Comments about AKG Perception Wireless Instrumental Set:

I've had zero issues with this gear. It performs as expected / advertised and gives me a good clear sound using my Acoustic and both electric guitars. Can't tell any difference between cable or wireless sound. Plus - I don't have that darn wire to kick out of the way!!
Don't know what else you could ask for!

Comments about AKG Perception Wireless Instrumental Set:

I looked for a long time at wireless systems because I needed to be able to do voice and guitar at the same time. I still don't understand why nobody has come out with a dual system for this purpose, but this AKG Perception system comes pretty close: I actually bought two instument systems. Then I bought an AKG C520L headset mic and used that in place of the instrument cable on one of them. You have 8 channels to choose from and I've typically used 1 & 2 without any problems. The sound is clear, haven't had any dropout problems walking around the hall.

I think I have said this in a review previously, but there is a little experience needed with the transmitter batteries. They need to be a little stronger to initially pair with the base than to maintain a transmission. So if the transmitter gets turned off then turned back on, it might not pair to the base. The answer is a new battery (single AA cell). I don't get 8-10 hours from them as advertised, 4-5 is more realistic, maybe 6. They work without any cutout until they just die completely (have a battery in your pocket, it changes in about 30 seconds).

Overall, I'm very happy with these units and I get a lot of inquiries from other musicians who want to do the same thing as me. Hopefully AKG will extend this line as technology moves along, and maybe package combos with specific applications in mind. AKG gear is great stuff, I use several of their mics and headphones in my sound work.

Comments about AKG Perception Wireless Instrumental Set:

I use this unit both as an instrument wireless and also with an AKG C520L headset mic for a wireless mic. It works well for both. That's one of the nice things about this unit. for the price it can be adapted to either applicaiton (of course only one at a time, unless you get a second unit.

I have only one reservation to mention: I do not get the kind of battery life that others speak of. One way you know that your battery needs replacing is that when you turn on the transmitter, the channel number never appears in the display (therefore it never connects to the receiver). I find that if I use the unit for a three hour gig, I have to put a new battery the next time I use the unit. I haven't experimented that much with it. I just put a new battery in it and it's off and running. It could be my batteries are a little old or something else like that.
As I say, the unit is inexpensive, very easy to use and works well. So I give it high marks as I do with most AKG products.

Comments about AKG Perception Wireless Instrumental Set:

I've used it for a few gigs so far and have had zero dropout. Uses a "AA" battery so none of the 9 volt issues of other sets. I've probably clocked 20 hours on it, still with the same battery. I've had no interference issues with my band who each have different wireless products as well. Yes, it is all plastic but I don't see any issue with that, what isn't anymore? I have my receiver mounted on my keyboard stand (I use it for my guitar) so that I can get to it easier in case there are any issues. It came ready to go, just play and play.
