OVERVIEW

Brilliant sound and ease-of-use at an unbeatable price/performance ratio.

The WMS 40 Mini instrumental systems features AKG's unique HDAP (High Definition Audio Performance) technology ensures the best possible, most realistic sound at any time. The system includes an SR 40 MINI receiver, a PT 40 MINI pocket transmitter, a MKG L instrument cable, a universal power supply with US/UK/EU adapter, and one AA size dry battery.

The SR 40 Mini receiver provides three status LEDs indicating ON/OFF status, received signal strength (RF OK), and audio clipping (AF CLIP). The VOLUME control sets the level at the ¼" output jack. The supplied switched mode power supply operates on any AC voltage from 110 to 240 VAC and includes EU, UK, and US adapters.

The PT 40 Mini bodypack is probably the smallest and lightest transmitter in its class. A reliable mini XLR output allows you to connect every compatible AKG miniature microphone. A single AA size battery will do to power both the transmitter and a condenser microphone connected to it. Battery life of the transmitter is the same legendary "30 hours off a single AA battery" as for the WMS 40 models, reducing the need to replace batteries and thus saving real money in the long run.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

Overall this is a great product. I picked this unit up about 2 months ago on the night of a big gig just because I was tired of feeling like I was tied on a leash by my cables. I had this unit up and running out of the box in no more than five minutes and actually used it in that nights gig, its that simple to operate. Overall I can not tell any difference in tone of my amp from this wireless and I have not experienced any humming, buzzing, cracking, or popping with this unit like you do with many other cheaper wireless systems . At this point I have spent several hours comparing the tone with the wireless to the amp as well as the tone with my cables to the amp, and honestly there really isnt a difference whether using a distortion or clean channel. And if you can hear some really slight differences, some small tweaking of your mix should easily give you your desired tone when using this wireless. Bottom line if you can't afford some of the higher priced wireless systems, but want to be sure your getting great product in the lower price range.....this is a must buy!!!

I am just not quite sure... I installed the unit on my pedal board, in my Studio, and started trying out the unit... Spent 25 or 30 minutes getting all of the "adjustments" set and NEVER got the unit to not exhibit some static and "scratchy pops"... Put my Nady 442 Gold back on the board and the sound was crystal clear... Put the AKG back on the pedal board and moved 5 to 8 foot away and things "cleared up"... It seemed that the AKG "added" highs - the sound was brittle and strident... I WILL KNOW MORE this weekend - I plan on using the AKG at a GIG, but I WILL have my Nady there as a back-up - just in case... I would NOT recommend this unit YET... Its a shame when 10 year old technology outperforms a current device...

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I really try to take care of my cables, but lately I've been spending a fortune replacing them. I've thought about going to a wireless system, but I didn't want to settle for some cheap, crappy Nady, and I didn't want to spend a lot for a good one. I'm just a gigging bar musician, not a rock star. But when I saw that the WMS 40 Mini was manufactured by AKG, I took notice. I've owned many AKG products over the years and I figured they wouldn't put their name on something that was below their standards. I was right. This thing is fantastic! I can't believe you can get a UHF system at this price. I'm very picky about my sound, and you do have to spend a little time adjusting the input sensitivity and the output volume to get it just right, but then it's set and it sounds great. The transmitter clips onto my back pocket and the receiver sits on top of my Marshall half stack. I do run a cable from the receiver out to my Boss ME-50 multi-effects unit and a cable back to my amp, but I'm not tethered anymore. It's nice to be able to walk around the stage. Great sound, no dropouts, and a nice price. Get one before they realize their error and raise the price.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

This wireless instrument system is definitely an incredible value. It definitely beats comparable systems that cost a lot more.

It's pretty much plug and play, and out of the box I was able to get all the hardware set up in five minutes, and another five to tweak settings.
I plug the receiver into my pedalboard and run the volume full on the receiver, and adjust the transmitter's AF level until there's no AF clipping even when I play as hard as possible.

My tone is exactly the same as when I'm using an instrument cable, but that's probably because I'm using the same instrument cable to connect the receiver to my pedalboard. I was happy with my tone, but I wanted freedom to move. I haven't experienced any interference while using this at church(with lots of wireless mics), in the studio, and while walking through various parts of my home for fun.

The receiver is in a nice metal housing and seems very solid. The transmitter is made of plastic but it feels like a high quality plastic,is nice and light, and is equipped with nice belt clip. I will soon be investing in a holder for it to attach to my strap, A little extra care will definitely keep things working.

I personally like the look of both the receiver and transmitter. Sleek and simple.

My only minor issue is that it only has one fixed frequency, and only three variations to choose from. I was well aware of this when I purchased it, and it's not a problem for me, but will definitely be a problem for people who want to use more than three of this system at once.

Overall, I think this is a great system for people who are just getting into the wireless field and don't wanna break the bank, as well as for experienced and professional players who may need something lighter for smaller venues.

    Great wireless system

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

We bought 2 of these for my band. They are great. Sounds just the same as using a cable. The battery last as long as advertiesed. I normally change the battery after 5 gigs at 4 hours per gig just to be on the safe side. That's 20 hours. The only thing is you need to be carefull with the transmitter since it is a plastic case. The clip secures it to your strap and i even added another velro strap as a backup just in case. I an thinking of getting a back up since they are so cheap and work so well. We've used ours now for about 10 gigs. We got the A and the C frequencies. This is the first time I have used a wireless but I have been playing for over 40 years and I am very particlular about my sound and gear. I highly recommend this system and it is one of the best "bang for the buck" items I have ever purchased. I guess the only downside for some might be the fact that this system has a fixed frequency and can be used for just 3 players but for your average band of 4 or 5 people this is great. One of my band mates even uses the same wireless system but with the microphone when she runs karaoke and has gotten great results. For you newbees just make sure each band member has a different frequency.

    SWELL!

    By Matt James

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

looking at the price, it was gamble, i know its a bad idea to buy a cheap wireless system because usually they sound awefull. but i took the chance anyhow and was pleasantly surprised. the cable that came with mine is a little nicer in my opinion than the one in the picture. no sound quality or tone loss, no volume loss. one thing i could not find while reasearching this purchace was distance... i plugged it up in my bedroom and wallked out side of my house and down the street about 100ft away with no dropouts untill i got to about 125ft away. which is great for the venues i play in. the only reason i would suggest spending more money on a wireless system would be if you play on much bigger stages than the 200 max capacity venues shreveport has to offer
features? its a wireless system, it has an on and off, a volume, and a mute button on the pack, what else do you want?
great with my acoustics and electrics, no tone loss, sounds just like my cables, no hum ... the reciever is metal with a plastic front, very sturdy. the 300$ line 6 i tried out was made entirely of plastic.
for the price, its a steal

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

If you want to give wireless guitar a try, this is the unit for you! Very reasonably priced and made by an excellent, longtime company. (AKG)
This system was easy to set up and use. It has everything that is needed and the functions are easily understood. I bought two units for my band. One unit had a small problem that necessitated a return to Musician's Friend. What a wonderful experience in dealing with the return. The employee at MF made it so easy and pleasant.

The other unit worked as expected. It was so quiet when turned on, I didn't know it was turned on until the guitar was played. The sound of the guitar was very natural sounding and there were no drop outs or interference of any kind. Once you try this product you will never want to use a guitar cord again.I have used the unit at a distance of approximately 60 to 80 feet with perfect results.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

Like many guitar players, cords are a nuisance and can be distracting on stage. Twice I almost pulled my amp off the speaker cab due to tripping on the cord, so I thought it was time to go wireless. I play Bass, but the guitar player in our band has tried quite a few wireless systems and settled on a $400+ Shure system and was quite satisfied with it. Not wanting to spend that much I went for this AKG wireless due to mostly positive reviews. I've had this unit for a couple of months and have maybe 10 gigs on it so far. When I first received this unit, I plugged it in and did a sound comparison through headphones swapping between the wireless and cord... I could not detect any difference. I then tried the wireless walking around my house and on occasion heard a slight pop and scratchy sound, almost like a weak connection. After fiddling with the mini XLR connector on the transmitter I noticed the spring strain relief on the cord was microphonic. Tapping it produced the popping sound and rubbing it gave the scratchy sound. Now I already had planned on obtaining an extra cord that goes from guitar to transmitter as a back-up, so I soldered a new one up, taped the cord with a loop at the transmitter and that has eliminated the problem so far. Range is good, up to 100ft., but I found after 40 ft. or so the delay was difficult to keep time. I would have given 5 stars, but due to the cord issue I'm giving it 4.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I play in a Praise Band at church and I bought this for my bass to go wireless on Sunday mornings. After spending a little time getting it "dialed in", the sound is great and it works fine. Although its not a Line 6 quality device, I would buy this again. Its fantastic for the occasional musician, especially for less than a Benjamin.

Note: I did order another cable for the remote as it was a little long for me and I prefer the 90 degree plug vs a straight plug (less hanging down) but that's just my preference.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I play about 50 weekends a year, and thought I'd give this one a try - not because I run all over the place, but I usually am assigned the task of getting a proper mix out front.

Anyway, I can only use this thing in about half the places I play. It hisses & pops in a lot of places - which just doesn't work. Range is pretty decent when it does work, and as another plus - it doesn't affect my sound really at all, which is a big plus over other wireless units I've used in the past.

Still - if you DO run all over the place and a wireless is mandatory, you'd better spend more cash. Just sayin'...

This system is very easy to use you just plug and play. In my opinion it has a slight bit of compression or loss of sound quality. It really just sounds different than the cable I use. The tone is good otherwise. I wish it had more than one channel on each system. But for [$] I could go without. Has the perfect cable lenght and its all extremely compact. The range on it is insane I tested it at 275ft going on 300 and it wasnt even line of sight. For [$] this is a killer AKG is a great company to go with!

This is my first time using a wireless rig for guitar. I didn't feel like spending a lot of money to do this so I went with this unit becuase the price was low and the reviews were good.

It works and I'm happy with it. I would have preferred a better quality 1/4" plug but this is something I can easily fix myself. Because of the style of my guitar I'll solder on an L-plug to go into the guitar.

I was trying to save a little money to get a little extra range and less cable mess by buying this unit but it is made of cheap plastic, rinky dink cable that goes to the guitar and even 7ft away it cuts out, makes lots of static noises when you turn and hisses.

I'm a pro, I know how to set things up and I know good equipment. This is not good equipment and AKG, a great brand that I've trusted for many many years, should not have their name on this unit!

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

When my 10-year-old AKG 720MHz guitar bug unit was starting to pick up interference from TV stations around the country (not all cities but more and more), I had to buy another unit. Looked at several units for over 350 and some higher, but found this unit. When I saw the price I was thinking could this be real? But since my previous unit was a single channel AKG (which I paid around 300 ten years ago) I decided to take a chance since I could return it within 30 days. I couldn't be happier as works great. No interference, no pops and no extraneous noise. Just quiet and great sound. The unit is built well and has with stood the rigors of the road (I do keep it in a road case) for this last month. No problems. Not sure why anyone would want to spend more money unless you think you'll need multiple channels, but so far I haven't needed any others.

I really hate to say it, but... I was really looking forward to receiving this and setting it up. As soon as I did, there were intermittent, loud popping sounds, and then an intermittent, loud hissing sound as I walked away from the receiver (in my house). I owned a Samson unit, and now own Sennheiser and Line6 units, and have never experienced something so unusable out-of-the-box. I adjusted the gain on Rcvr and Xmtr and any other adjustments I could find, tested the battery, etc -- but no joy. Had to send it back. I suppose I got a bum unit b/c no one could sell systems that fail like this.
