I've owned mine from nearly the first offering. I've had very little tone loss as compared to any brand cable including Monster cable. If you know how to adjust the output gain and the squelch then you won't have ANY problems with this unit. The only thing to keep in mind is that it IS ONLY a single channel unit. In high interference areas, this is not the unit to use. Otherwise anything bad said about this unit is just plain wrong and it sure beats worrying about a battery pack. Oh yeah.. and for the person who wrote that it bounces around. Did you happen to check the box for the velcro dots that came with it just for the purpose of keeping it locked in place while you play? More than one instrument like me?? Then buy a strip of velcro and cut little dots for each instrument. It will never damage the finish of a quality instrument and switching the "bug" with several instruments is a breeze and cheaper then mutiple body packs.

I was so excited about this product, but disappointed in its performance. Small, no cords, easy and quick to switch between guitars during a gig or in the recording studio... but made the volume pots on my guitars/bass sound dirty, scratchy and distorted, even after adjusting the gain/squelch controls. I feel the transmitter may be a little underpowered using only a single AAA battery. The battery indicator light didn't function properly either. Stayed on all the time, even with a fresh battery, when it's supposed to be off unless the battery needs replacing! With a little redesign, this can be the next big thing in wireless systems. It's not right now.

Unit doesn't work well with other wireless systems

By IG

from Washignton D.C.

This unit is great except when used with other wireless products. I use a Shure wireless in-ear monitor system. My AKG Guitar Bug has dead spots everywhere on stage when I have the Shure system running. Think I may have to get a new system...

Be nice to your equipment and it'll be nice to you

By Disbar19

from Long Island, NY

All I can say is that this thing is the best idea AKG has ever come up with. There's no stupid box to clip on to your strap or belt, it's light and sounds great. I had no problems with it breaking so far, but I baby everything I own. I did find that it lowered my volume at first use, but then discovered the little screwdriver thingy that turns the volume pot on the transmitter itself. Great buy maybe AKG will improve on the unit in the future.

Yikes...

The biggest plus for this unit is that a single AAA battery will last a long time. Seeing as how they are so inexpensive, the operating costs are low. However, the sound quality is also very low. The frequency range is stifled and it is difficult to get a quality sound unless you just want noisy fuzzy distortion. The flexible connection is also somewhat faulty. You have to tape it down or else it will flip all over the place while you are playing. In my Tele, I actually had it fall out in the middle of a song. I got a good price on mine, but there is more duct tape on it that I could ever have imagined necessary. Get something else. Really.

Crap

By ronstanley

It lasted almost two years, but finally self-destructed on a gig. When I looked inside the transmitter it's a miracle that it lasted that long! Crap!

Solid, but lose volume and sound quality

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I got a great deal on the unit so I thought I would give it a try. I took it back after using it for a few hours though. I play a Taylor guitar and noticed a bit of a drop off in the sound quality. Although I didn't have any problems with the range or static, I couldn't handle my guitar not sounding like my guitar. But I'm a little picky. I also had some issues getting enough volume because the unit couldn't handle the hot signal my guitar put out. For someone not caring too much about exact tonal reproduction, this unit could work great for ya. But I'm saving up for a unit that can exactly reproduce my Taylor's sound.

It's not bad, but it could be better. It doesn't always sound good.

Bug Review

By Dave Gamez

from Tucson, AZ

Bought the Bug on sale at a significantly lower price than online catalogues advertise. I use it in Strats,Les Pauls,135,335 have not had any trouble with it. it is not as rugged as more expensive units but for the price its more than i expected,i change the batt before every gig, havent tried the rechargeable option yet as i always carry batts for effects anyways.i never noticed any change in tone or volume using it and its never picked up other frequencies and the range is fine for any club or ouside venue weve played and its definitely less of a hassle than "pack" models but i wouldnt recommend abusing it.

Unsatisfactory

By Anonymous

I found this product to fall out of my bass, because it would not send a signal unless it was pulled slighty out. I own a Warwick Corvette Pro-line bass, and have never had a single problem with it, so I doubt the error regarded my bass!

Works wonderfully, can even play down the street!

By Clay Asher

from Columbus, Indiana

This thing is wonderful! I jam hard 11 hours a day, everyday, and this thing doesn't fail! I recommend this to people that gig and love to jump around and get crazy (like me) - No wires to limit you, and there's no static, feed back, unwanted noise, and it won't cut out like older versions! I recommend it!

Positives and Negatives from an AKG buyer

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I found the AKG wireless system for guitar to be pretty good if you're careful. I don't recommend this for users who play hard or jump. I've had to send my system back multiple times because sometimes it just doesn't work. For the price, it did me well for an amount of time. Not for a long time use.

Good sound, but poor structure

By Rooster0423

from Undisclosed

I liked the bug a lot when I first bought it. It had a really good sound, and range. I was able to crank up my amp and walk around outside and still hear it fine. But I did realize that the bug didn't reach my complete standards. The bug is a little plug that goes into your guitar jack right? And it is able to bend which ever way to match the shape of the guitar type of thing. The thing that needs to be modified on it is make the spring inside stronger. When you plugged it in and as you're moving and jumping around, it flopped away from the guitar, then smacked right into it again. So I ended up returning it, and at the moment I'm looking for a better wireless system.

BEWARE!!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I am very disappointed in this unit overall. The signal is not very good over 20 feet away and, as stated below, this unit is not for a high-energy musician!!! I have broke two jacks by it getting mildly bumped. My reward is $85 each time to replace it. I now have over $400 in it and am very disappointed. Be careful here fellow musicians.

It must be love

By D-VO/Headbyon

from Coeur d' Alene, ID

I was really weary about getting this because I've used a few different wireless units in the past, but I'm glad I took a chance with this one. It's the saving grace of my stage performance. I can't sit still, or hardly stay on the stage so I needed a good wireless system and this is it. I've never had a problem with tone loss, crackles from moving too far away, low volume, etc. For someone looking for a desent wireless guitar system, this one is it.

Nice System

I got the Wireless system for Christmas and i absolutely love it. I can run around my whole house with it and the system will never short out. People say that it lowers your volume, but all you need to do it tweak the gain on the bug. great deal.

Nothing But Trouble.

By Dlaw1269

from Garland, NE

I have been using the Akg wms40 guitar bug now for nearly a year and a half now. For the first 3 months I was very impressed with it. But, from then on I have been battling all sorts of quality problems ranging from the transmitter falling out of the guitar jack to having the threads on the transmitter jack break, causing an electrical short. I have finally given up on this product and gone back to wearing a leash on stage.
