I got these to replace unpowered Alesis Monitor One MKIIs. Their sounds are quite similar. These produce better imaging (due to the biamped and crossover design). The tweeters also sound less harsh with the bass falling off more gracefully toward very low frequencies.Without regard to my previous speakers, I found these to be quite good. There seems to be enough adjustments on the back to tailor it to your room. For my 12 x 12 room in my house it sounded fine flat. The bass is punchy and as smooth as I would ever expect from a 6 1/4 woofer with a ported design. The mids and high range is where this monitor really shines. Very full without much ear fatique.Put your head up to the tweeter with the power turned on but the gain all the way off. I can hear slight hiss in my quiet project studio room. It's somewhat annoying.Despite that I found these speakers to be a great buy. The salesguy knocked off 39 dollars and with the $50 mail in rebate, the total cost is $310 before tax, not bad.

Eventually, you'll end up with a monitor that doesn't work......the blue power light will blink at you and there will be no sound. Alesis does NOT recognize this as a problem, although the internet is FULL of these stories. One of mine did the "death blink", and I read up about it. The capacitor in location C8, melts down due to a design flaw. The resistor next to it heats up and kills the capacitor in c8. There are replacement options, which I tried..but after 4 hours of use, it came back to the same problem. Blinking power light and no sound. When I opened up my speaker, it was JUST as the internet reports had said. The capacitor had melted all over the board due to a "design flaw" I spoke wiht Alesis and they do not recognize this fact. DO NOT BUY ALESIS FOR MONITORS. You'll be sorry for sure.......and alone to deal with your broken speaker. Like you, I play for $$, and the amount that I spent on Alesis.............isn't worth it. I might as well flushed my $$ down the toilet. Same result............I'm out of money and I STILL don't have a monitor for mixdown. Do your homework folks, and DO NOT put your trust in Alesis.

Stay Away from these!

By paul andersen

from L.A.

Just like the others on this thread, after abour 3 years one of my speakers started to have this high pitched hiss in the background, and just today, when I was reconfiguring my office I moved the speaker (it was off but still plugged in), and when I went to turn it on again, blinking blue light of death. Even with the power off I can still hear clicking in there. This will be the last piece of Alesis gear I buy.

Surprisingly Awesom!

By brixton

These speakers sound beautiful. The imaging is fantastic, and there is no stress on the ears. I did notice that if you mount them on independent speaker stands, the bass will really shine. This has really made mixing a lot easier on me, especially doing rock styles.

Sound is great - while they work

By Smooth Sax

from Scottsdale, AZ

The reviewer above is 100% correct in his analysis of the problem - the exact same thing happened to me - I got the "blue light of death" on my left monitor - but it has been 2 years now since new and they're out of warranty - Alesis claims there's nothing they can do - and a repair would cost more than buying a new one. For now I can hobble along on just one speaker but next time I'm buying a different pair from another manufacturer! Thanks to Musician's Friend for their great products, prices and service. I tried to post this negative review at another retailer's site but they wouldn't do it - Hint - they only show three very positive reviews. What's up with that.

Don't

By Skippy-Nn47X

Here's the deal one more time. There is a flaw in the design and one or both of these speakers will go out on you. Don't buy them! I just paid 130$ bucks to get one fixed. The guy that worked on it thought it was some sort of glue that melts and then conducts and makes something short out. Anyway I have the defective parts in a baggy. And also to anyone selling these things, DON'T!

Don't Buy Alesis

By Gerry-ucuCk

from Utah

I purchased two Alesis monitors about a year ago, and already one of them has failed (just blinks off an on, it's a useless piece of garbage now). I read another review from someone who had the exact same problem (called the death blink). I will never purchase an Alesis product again.

My job depends on my presentation!

By GTRPLAYER1001

from Atlanta

My profession as a songwriter depends on excellent demos. The Alesis 620's delivers what I need and more. I need to hear exactly what I am putting on tape/disc and the 620's are spot on for me. You cannot touch this sound and quality for under 1K with any other brand. With total control over the sound via the onboard switches, you can tailor the sound to fit your room. Non treated space? No problem with theses monitors. Just dial in the speakers for your liking. Simple as that.
