Not a bad unit for the money... Effects are really fairly decent (after a moderate amount of tweaking). I purchased this for mainly live use, as just about anything else is better than built-in standard mixing board effects.. However - As I perform as an acoustic solo act I was hoping to make use of the dual processing capabilities by using reverb for vocal on one channel and chorus for guitar on the other..but that is not possible with this unit. You are not able to "select" the individual effects running in the dual configuration mode... You are stuck with presets..which unbelievably do not include a reverb/chorus setting.... That aside, it's a nice sounding unit and very usable in live situations.. As for recording, I'm sorry to say that my software verbs put this thing to shame so it's a no go there.. but if you are looking for something simple, nice sounding with plenty of flexibility for a low price..this is a pretty good deal:)

lousy design. Mine broke 3 month after I bought it. Sent it back. 4 months later got it back (working) 3 months later broke again. (It wouldn't power up. Something internally wrong. Sent back for repairs 2nd time within 1 year. One month later got back (working). One month later again would not power up. I called Alesis and they wanted to charge me plus shipping cost to repair. My MIDIVERB 4 now collects dust in a corner and I invested in another brand of studio effects processors. Not recommended by me for quality and service issues.

Comments about Alesis MIDIVerb4 Digital Effects Processor:
four years of daily use has not caused any problems. Alesis is not as reliable as in years past especially their repair dept. but happy with this for non-picky generic affects. and really, given the probable low quality play back most recordings get its more than adequate.
Comments about Alesis MIDIVerb4 Digital Effects Processor:
We have been using this in a church for quite some time now, it sounds great, but it is not flexible enough as it allows dual mono only on some effects (such as pitch), and chaining effects only on some. I would love to use any two effects in dual mono mode so i can use any two kinds of effects (eg. chorus and reverb) independently.I also had a problem where the display would show gibberish characters (looks like japanese characters), changing effects and restarting didn't help, but the effects would still work. And it usually gets resolved after a few minutes (the display probably needs a warming up)All in all, the reverbs and chorus sounds decent, i mainly used them for vocals and sometimes for guitar and keyboards! I wouldn't mind having it in a rack, but if i was suppose to have only one FX unit in a live sound rack in this price range, then i would choose the Lexicon MX200
Comments about Alesis MIDIVerb4 Digital Effects Processor:
The unit works fine, but when I turn it on after it has been off for a while, the display does not work. It needs to warm up considerably for the display to show current settings. I sent it back for warranty repair, but it was returned to me saying the technician could find nothing wrong. It definitely has a problem. Other than that, the effects are every thing I expected.
Comments about Alesis MIDIVerb4 Digital Effects Processor:
I purchased one of these about 8 years ago. In a bout of insanity, I dissolved my studio and GAVE this thing away (along with a ton of other equipment). Now I'm building a new studio digital and all, and I am purchasing another one of these FX units, that's just how great of an impression it made on me!! I wouldn't be without it.
Comments about Alesis MIDIVerb4 Digital Effects Processor:
I use this processor for many effects: Delay, Reverb, Flanger, Tremolo, Chorus...it's awesome for the money! I like the ability to modify the many preset sounds, and save them for future use. The only thing I would change is the ability to use the "Tap Tempo" function and the "Bypass" and it allows for only one or the other, so I usually end up locking in the Tap Tempo during practice and then changing the utility function to Bypass when playing live. One last point, you can use it in your chain without needing an effects loop in your amp. That was one of the reason I purchased this as I have a great, little 15 watt amp, but it does not have an effects loop.Overall this is a great, dependable processor and at a great price.
Comments about Alesis MIDIVerb4 Digital Effects Processor:
We have used this in our band and reaped massive rewards with our sound years ago. I am back to buy another for my son to enhance his interest in the guitar. At 14 years old, he is very creative and expermental. With this product he should find his recipe. I'd love to do a humorous, intellectual and economic commercial with you covering this product.
Comments about Alesis MIDIVerb4 Digital Effects Processor:
I've had an older unit since 1996 and it has functioned perfectly. For home projects and scratch tracks where getting the idea down is more important than subtlety this machine does the job very well. Also delivers solid live effects.
