OVERVIEW

Crisp, clean, biamplified sound, taken to the next degree.

Improving on an award-winning formula, Alesis reengineered the speaker components of their famous M1 Active to produce the powerful Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors. And they didn't boost the price. Internal active crossover and newly designed dual amplifiers ensure a broad, extremely accurate frequency response, clear imaging with a wide sweet spot, high power handling and detailed highs and mids. 6.5" woofer cone is high tensile strength, low weight, non-woven carbon fiber providing quicker transient response in the low frequency range and more detailed upper mids. 1" pure silk dome tweeter for natural response and less ear fatigue. Internally mounted phasing plug and ferrofluid cooling. 75-watt woofer amp and 25-watt tweeter amp with 8th-order high-and low-pass electronic crossover filters. 2kHz critical crossover to improve mid-frequency response and midrange coloration. Time alignment circuitry maintains synchronization of the high and low drivers.

Cab offers smooth radiused corners for reduced edge-diffraction and magnetically shielded drivers for use near computer and video monitors. Horizontal or vertical placement.

Had these iin my studiio for eleven years and they where on the whole time. Shut them off a few months ago for the first time and when I fired them back up one died. So I am getting ready to buy another pair and see if they last as long. Great speakers for the money. You get what you pay for and these are a little pricey but not bad. They sound great and they are versitile. If you think they are to bassy just plug one of the bass out put holes with a rolled up wash cloth, as per the instructions that come with ithem and you have reduced the bass responce. I highly recomend these for the mid level to higher end studio production. Of course a lot depends on personal taste, but you can't go wrong with hese monitors.

After about 10 hours of use one of my monitors started cutting out after pushing it a little, I don't know if its a auto shut off for overheating or what but even after I played them quitely for a while they were still shutting down at low volume, I'm pissed, I gotta ship them back to alesis to get them fixed at my expense, if they wouldn't cut out they would be great! Hey sound awsome, excellent imaging and bass response, they just cut out all the time!

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

Been using these for two years now and Ive loved them enough to write this review. Simply put - you wont find a better monitor for the price. Forget all the useless hype about other monitors - these have real low end response and crystal highs. The bass is really unbelievable on these - so much so you don't need a subwoofer for smaller rooms. They are very durable and have been solid for as long as I have had them - and Ive moved them around quote a bit. Their room coverage is awesome and I can put them in virtually any room and still have a great wide sweetspot. They dont fatigue the ears very easily which is great after 4hrs of mixing. I cant say the same about the KRK rokit 5's. Overall - for what Alesis asks for these - you arent going to find a better pair of monitors. These are often used in radios and studios along with other monitors costing 10x as much - yet they still hold their own.

Super monitors. After using head sets, and my car sterio to listen to the final mixdown on c.d.. i finally bought these after carefull study. They are exactly what i imagined, and better. I'm so glad i wised up and bought these. Now my friends and family can hear me mix down, and i dont have to have my ears blown out with head phones.
top grade stuff....unless you wanna spend $3,000 on pro gagets.

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

for the price i don't think you can get a better pair. I was looking into the m-audio bx8a's but liked the sound of these better and they're cheaper! Great buy!
Great sounding speakers. I've had them for a couple months and they're very clear and accurate. A lot of reviews said that these were pretty bass heavy but the bass seems really accurate in my setup, maybe my room helps with the acoustics.
Very well built, strong, heavy, solid construction
awesome monitors for the money

Good monitors for the money

By John Reed

from Eugene, OR

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

I've had a pair of these for a few years and have never had problems monitoring at high volumes. They are bass heavy but, as they say, either have a perfect listening environment or know your environment's faults and apply them to your mix. I also have a set of NS-10s and the two together are a perfect match since the NS-10s are so good at setting bass level. I've heard Tannoys and Behringers in this price range and, though the bass is not accurate through the MKIIs, their overall performance is much better which results in better mixes.

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

I was using cheap computer stle speakers and than a pair of Bose 101's. I decided to upgrade to monitors to see the differance and didnt want to spend to much. For my hearing and equipment these monitors are perfect. I even use them to listen to itunes when I am in my studio missing around. I actualy trashed the computer speakers. The Bose's went to work to be desk speakers. I am going to use these speakers till they break. I was going to replace them with an upgrade but after listening to them they are serious keepers. For the price you cant beat them.
They are not LOUD speakers. They are low to medium volume speakers. The only "funny" thing is, unlike more expensive monitors that have "knobs" for adjusting bass, these monitor tells you to stick CLOTH in one or both of the bass holes to correct for speaker replacement. I tried it and yep changes bass responce! I am using a PreSonus 22VSL to connect these to my computer.

Budget Speaker

By Movin420

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

Alesis makes these speakers attractive with THE PRICE. But, don't be fooled, these speakers are not as good as higher priced models. They will meet your everyday demands, but are NOT meant to be pushed. The quality is not there. My speakers were sent back 3x's!. One speaker flat out died, it was sent back to me NON-WORKING, then sent back again & blown woofer. Both speakers clipped right out of the box new. The fact that Alesis is based in RI and I'm from RI is probably the only reason why I still have these. My major complaint is TOO MUCH BASS. The bass overpowers the necassarily nice even sound that comes from these. With no trims on freq, bass will prove to be a problem for you. The front dual ports will also interferre w/the sound at higher levels. If you need speakers in a smaller room w/min requirements, these will be great - at lower sound levels the sound is very nice & quality rich. If you need a speaker for higher sound levels - do not get these, you will quickly discover their limitations.

DOPE.

By Jon Gee

from Seattle, Wa

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

First off, these monitors are really amazing. For the price, you can't beat the quality here. I had to redesign my studio to integrate these monitors, because the bass was so heavy and deep. The user guide suggests plugging one or two of the ports, but when I tried this it kinda squelched the bass. With some isolation pads and some foam behind the monitors the bass is tighter.I tend to crank up the treble in the mixer a bit because these monitors are warmest in the midrange, and I need a little more sparkle in my mix. Also, I can listen to these speakers (once set up properly) for hours and hours without getting tired ears. They're very attractive, with a cool little blue light where the Alesis logo is.If you're looking for an affordable monitor set up, I highly recommend these.

Best Monitors for the price

By Anthony Rufat

from Texas

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

I like these monitors so much, I just purchased another set.
Power switch and volume in the rear. The blue light in the front is not annoying or too bright. The power cable is quality. Does not include audio cable. Make sure you buy the right cables for your setup.
These monitors are made solid and have a clean look. In my opinion the sound is true. My mixes have improved alot since using these monitors. When people hear my setup they always comment on how great the monitors sound first. I have compared these with similar monitors, these by far are the best.
I brought my first set of these in 2004 and they look and sound just as good as the day I brought them. So I brought another set.

Stuff the bass ports

By Alhambran

from Los Angeles

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

These speakers work great if you use them at mid volume with either one or both bass ports filled. Run a spectrograph plug-in on a track of a similar style of music and then put the same plug-in on a track recieving input from a "flat" reference mic in the position that you listen from. Stuff socks or towels in the bass ports(like it states in the manual) and move the mic closer or further away until the two graphs match as closely as possible. You could also to use the same technique with a tone generator and sweep the frequencies up and down and watch the peak holds on your multiband spectrograph plug-ins until they're close. Too much of any frequency in monitors means not enough in the mix etc, etc...

best bang for the buck

By Tnjpekar

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

In their class, i found the alesis m1 mk II to be the most responsive monitor out there. the frequency separation was superb, and they demonstrated better bass response then competitors such as the event tr8's. clarity was excellent, and they were highly directional, allowing for optimal placement in the controll room and distinctive stereo separation. I would highly reccomend them over all others in their class

Alesis,..never again...

By ADIAZITOX

from NEWARK, OH

Comments about Alesis Monitor 1 Active MKII Powered Monitors:

These things were great right out of the box, but with time they began to fail, i got these two years ago, registered them, and when the first woofer blew went through the hassle of having to pay shipping to get them repaired, which is very expensive. I now have both blown woofers sitting by my feet while I type this, I've been using alesis products for 20yrs, the new stuff is not worth the money. my suggestion is to go with a power amp and unpowered monitors, less money to replace when things go bad.

First of all these are very versitile. I use them for anything from classic rock, too jazz. I don't know how they are for rap, but I'm willing to bet they sound great there too! Plenty of bass, plenty of top end. That said, I love the sound of the 1" silk tweeter's. In fact I'm listing to music on them right now. As i put in the con's they they were bulky, they are, but I'm not sure how much smaller they could get? Overall great sound, great value, great speakers.

I already use a set of alesis studio speakers. A passive set that I traded for. I liked the sound I got from them, but had to have an external amp. I was thinking of putting a set of subs under them, now with these new speakers, I don't need subs. Great sound, built in amp, and tone all in one package. try them you won't be disappointed. good job Alesis!

Great, Great loudspeakers. Amazing price. Now a days, powered speakers are so convenient, especially in a studio or home setting. A clean crisp sound! The tweeters respond brilliantly and there are no over-exaggerated lows. In my specific pair, there is a slight low mid resonance, but every speaker is different. However, for the price, I couldn't ask for more. Plus they look freaking awesome!
