Comments about Alesis Transactive Mobile Roller PA With iPod Dock Black:

Musician's Friend was very helpful in replacing my first unit with another unit. On 2/19/2013, I received my replacement (second) Alesis Transactive Mobile PA. I plugged in the power cord and let the unit charge overnight. The battery would not take a charge. Either the battery was dead on arrive or the charging circuit was defective. You could not play the unit using battery power. The unit appeared to work fine with the power cord hookup. I immediately contacted Musician's Friend and got another Return Material Authorized Shipping Label. After 2 defective Alesis Transactive Mobile PA Systems, I decided to not go with Alesis again. I opted to go with the Gemini MS-USB Portable PA System.

Comments about Alesis Transactive Mobile Roller PA With iPod Dock Black:

I received the Alesis Transactive Mobile Roller PA System as a Christmas present and it was on my Christmas list because of its mobility/flexability, good reviews by a number of owners and Alesis' good reputation for their audio equipment. I have used the system at our Sunday church class three times. On our second trip to the church class, the black plastic bumper guard on the lower back edge of the case fell off. There are two adhesive strips on each side that attach the bumper guard to the case. Only one strip had the protective film removed so that adhesion could occur. I removed the protective film from the other strip and reattached the bumper guard. A few days later, the bumper guard fell off again. This is a poor approach to take for attaching a bumper guard which is going to get continual bumping. If the bumper guard had been 1/4" longer, then each end would have fit under the edge of roller brackets and would have been held securely in place. Securing the bumper strip to the case with screws would have also been a better approach. In addition to the bumper guard falling off, I noticed that both of the roller brackets were broken. I don't know if these issues are an Alesis design/handling problem or a China manufacturing problem, but it is something that you do not expect in quality built products. With only 4 very light trips, there is nothing that I did that would have caused either of these issues.

Regarding the performance of the PA system, I am rather disappointed at this point. For my audio input, I use either my Droid X MP3 player or my JVC portable CD player and for the microphone input, I use my Shure PG58 or PG48. On the PA system, the zero output position for the gain controls and the master volume control is at the 7 o'clock position. The max output position is at 5 o'clock for both gain and master volume. With the volume output of either my mp3 player or my CD player set at 80-90% , the PA mic gain and PA audio gain at 12 o'clock (50%, if the output was linear) and the PA master volume at 12 o'clock (50%), the volume coming out of the PA system is no louder than my non-amplified speaking voice. For the PA system sitting on a hard surfaced table in our church classroom which is 33' X 27' with thin carpeting and painted walls, the PA gain and PA master volume settings have to be at the 2-3 o'clock position (70-80%) to fill the room with music. At an assisted living facility where the room was 45'X36", the mic gain and audio gains had to be set at 80% and the master volume had to be set at 90% to fill the room with music. In the Alesis description of features it indicates that the unit outputs high-fidelity sound to over 150 feet. I doubt that my unit will do this. A number of reviewers have indicated that they get great sound at low settings. At this point, I am concerned that my Alesis Transactive Mobile Roller PA System has a defective amplifier or a speaker system that is not as efficient as it should be. With gains and master volumes running at the 80%-90% levels (3-4 o'clock positions), the quality of the sound coming out of the system is good.

Comments about Alesis Transactive Mobile Roller PA With iPod Dock Black:

This unit gets surprisingly loud for its size! I purchased this unit to use for presentations at guitar shows, and festivals. I play backing tracks on an MP3 player, and play guitar through a battery powered Korg Mini Pandora. I've been kind of impressed with the results.

The only disappointment I've had is with the mic channel. It really doesn't amplify voice very well even using a Shure SM 58, since there's no EQ to boost the clarity. And the mic and cable supplied, are not very usable at all.

Even though I wouldn't recommend this unit for speech or singing, I can highly recommend it for music and instruments. (Electric keyboard, electric guitar with processor, etc.)
And it's worth mentioning the battery life really is amazing! But there could be some drawback to this too... Apparently, to keep the battery healthy and operational you have to charge the unit every month, and then discharge it approximately 80%, or the battery may fail to charge. This has proven, for me at least, less convenient than it sounds.

All in all, this unit is a really good value, and with the addition of a little EQ on the master, this would have been truly exceptional.

I work at a Foundation and needed to get something for a group we have here that does events. They happen to be older, female and not super comfortable with complex technology. This is the perfect fit for them. It is easy to use with very few switches, buttons and plugs, easy to move with the luggage style handle that extends out and just light enough to lift in and out of a car for a 60-something group of women. The ability to battery power this unit is also a huge plus because when added with an AKG WMS Wireless system there are no cords to trip over!

Comments about Alesis Transactive Mobile Roller PA With iPod Dock Black:

I've had this for about 4 months now, and I have not turned it off yet. I love this unit both for it's portability, and sound. This is not your usual ipod dock. This thing can really get loud without losing clarity. The guitar imput is pretty cool for plugging in an acoustic at home, but I don't think I'd reccommend it for a live performance, unless it was a very small coffee house type of thing. Very pleased.
