OVERVIEW

Small-format mulitpurpose USB-equipped mixer with 10 inputs and built-in effects.

The ZED-10FX is an amazing, compact desktop mixer, ideal for small band mixing. It is ultra portable for carrying to the gig, and can be used for recording live or in the studio. Guitars can be plugged in directly to the mixer using the specially designed high-impedance inputs, while the mixer has two stereo inputs for MP3/CD players or keyboards. It is also equipped with professional XLR main stereo outputs and a flexible monitoring section with headphone and speaker feed outputs. Unlike it's sibling, the ZED-10, the ZED-10FX also boasts a set of fabulous effects to give shimmering reverbs and enhance your sound.

The ZED-10FX is great for live mixing. The layout makes it very simple to use and easy to achieve a great sound. It can be used for recording a live show, and can also be used for an audio project at home that you can build up track by track using the USB digital audio interface.

The flexibility, quality, and price-point of this mixer makes it stand out from the crowd. You can plug your guitars or instruments straight into the class A discrete FET high impedance inputs, it can accommodate up to four microphones, two stereo sources with MP3 player compatibility, and separate 2-track record outputs. It also has a stereo playback input for 2-track replay or perhaps interval music from a CD player, XLR main stereo outputs with inserts, comprehensive monitoring with headphones, and separate monitor speaker outputs, 48V microphone phantom power, DI level switching for sub mixing, and last but not least, the same digital effects algorithms as those used on Allen & Heath's flagship digital consoles costing 150 times as much.

Comments about Allen & Heath ZED-10FX 6-Channel USB Mixer with Effects:

Just got the ZED-10FX. So far, I have only tested it and done 1 gig but wanted to get a quick review in for those of you shopping as vigorously as I was. My goal was to find something that had high quality audio but a low channel count and small footprint (I'm a solo musician). It has thus far met my needs. My first priority was finding quality mic preamps, I've found this to be as important as the microphone that?s used. These apparently use the same design as the ones A&H puts in their acclaimed MixWizard series. I can only compare them to the Mackie CFX series preamps that I?m used to and LOVE. The ZED?s are just as good or better- really clear, warm, and responsive. I also use a stereo channel to run a loop station with beats, electronic phrases, and live guitars. The overall output of the mixer just sounds great- clean, punchy, musical. The EQ is killer as well, very legit and impactful as you adjust. Knobs instead of faders was initially a turn-off for me but I must say I am really happy with these. They are very well mounted and have a heavy, super smooth movement to them. The gradual and fluid change in the levels as you turn the knobs is far superior to what I'm used to with Mackie. They are also very brightly colored and contrasted for low light identification of everything. I would actually take these knobs over a cheap 60mm fader any day. I have not done any USB recording so can?t say much on that (although it?s a little disappointing not to have channel separation as you would get with the cheaper Alesis Multimix). However, the analog recording and signal routing flexibility of the ZED is impressive and sold me. Personally I am running my stage monitor out of the ?monitor out? and saving the aux send as well as the assignable ?record out? for sub mixing and live recording to a digital 4-track. Also, the circuitry and switching of everything is really clever and illustrated well on the mixer surface with helpful connecting lines. Construction seems pretty solid short of some barely noticeable stressing on the seams of the red plastic sides (Made in China, par for the course) and the rubber feet are not perfectly level with each other. Neither issue represents any malfunction as far as I can tell but I'll admit its aesthetically annoying. Overall, this is a great sounding mixer that's the size of a bulky laptop and weighs 8 lbs.! Combine it with some nice active loudspeakers (I use QSC K10s) and you?ve got a powerful system that fits in your trunk.

Comments about Allen & Heath ZED-10FX 6-Channel USB Mixer with Effects:

Took this right to the gig right after UPS delivered it and left my Mackie at home!Much quieter and the EQ is actually functional, unlike Mackie products. You pay a little more, but from the moment you take it out of the box,it's obvious this is a better made product than anything Mackie has produced in a long time.If you don't care about what you sound like, than buy a Beringer and save some money over the Mackie mixers. If quality, reliability and great sound are important,I strongly recommend Allen and Heath or Soundcraft boards. That's what the pros use.

Comments about Allen & Heath ZED-10FX 6-Channel USB Mixer with Effects:

I love the compact size, the quiet operation and the adjustable effects. I use this when I perform solo with an acoustic guitar, a hollow body electric, a Shure 55 mic and a Meinl electronic kick bass pedal. I use Yamaha MSR250 powered speakers and the system sounds very warm and natural. The built in effects allow me to leave my other effects home. Besides live performances, I use this mixer for home recording with a Tascam DP-008. Very quiet and clean. I got this to replace an aging Mackie 1402. I hear a definite improvement in sound quality.

Comments about Allen & Heath ZED-10FX 6-Channel USB Mixer with Effects:

I side-stepped to this unit after using a Mackie 1402 for 10 years.

Major assets of this mixer for me are:

          - Small size - particularly the shallow depth. This mixer is less physically awkward with all my cramped, hastily improvised stage setups.
          - IEC Power Socket - lack of this is a major liability with all the cheaper small mixers in my opinion. (I really hate those awkward, dedicated external power supplies...)
          - Rugged construction - this unit feels like a rugged piece of gear (the cheaper boards feel much more toy-like)
          - Sound - sounds very nice to me - mixes well - adds a slight bit of desirable character perhaps. No spending half an hour messing around trying to find a setting that doesn't sound lousy.

I do miss certain user-friendly aspects of the Mackie 1402, like the way using a single input would default to mono and the generous gain in the line inputs.

Overall I'm happy, though. No regrets, going a bit over over budget. Like they say: quality is remembered, long after price is forgotten.

Thats just how quiet this unit is.....Allen & Heath made no sacrifices when they developed this compact mixer....utilizing all the high-end components of it's much bigger brothers as well as 16 of the most useful FX needed in the industry.....this board is the stepping stone you need to advance into recording with a USB interface....phantom power and 2 Hi Z inputs for guitars etc.....all Pros.....no Cons here......another feature not mentioned is the fact that this unit has a removable 110 power cord.....no wall wart......and an on/off switch......this unit is quite hefty for the small footprint.....don't let the price fool you....theres more bang for your buck here than anything Mackie has to offer.........the Allen & Heath ZED 10 FX delivers the quality you are looking for......

Comments about Allen & Heath ZED-10FX 6-Channel USB Mixer with Effects:

I've been playing for decades, finally decided to get a mixer for recording and live performances. Based on my requirements, Musician's Friend talked me out of a cheap Peavey and into this fine little board. It's fairly intuitive, and within a couple of days I had laid tracks down in Garageband and played them back wirelessly via Airport Express using iTunes. Not bad for a guy in his 50s who never did any of that before! Well worth the price charged, and I'm grateful for the helpful advice. Sound quality is very good, even better when I upgraded to Mogami cables.

We're using this unit in our recording studio as a means to channel multiple sources such as percussion instruments, keyboard, stringed instruments onto one recorded track on our recording device. This unit works great to that end. We haven't really touched all of its capabilities yet like the USB connection to a PC but feel reasonably sure it will live up to all of our expectations. We use the ZED-12FX for live performances which is why we selected the 10FX for the studio based on its delivery, ease of operation, durability and reliability. You can't go wrong with the 10FX...we are very pleased with this unit.

Comments about Allen & Heath ZED-10FX 6-Channel USB Mixer with Effects:

I bought this to replace a cheap, noisy, not-so-Hi-Fi mixer. When I read the specs on noise and distortion, I thought, WOW!, is that possible? It seams to live up to it. I literaly CAN NOT hear it. It is totally tranparent. I am sure a lot of that is due to the high quality internal power supply. I have a digital piano, synth and drum machine going through it and all of them sound as clear as if they were plugged directly into my amps. That's all I need!

Only reason I didn't give a 10 is I just got this 2 days ago and haven't tried the FX yet. If they follow suit, this is definitely a 10!
Plenty of buttons to allow you to take complete control of it. You can route any and all inputs ot any or all outputs, It can be a little confusing as it took me quite a while to get sound routed to the headphones, but once it's figured out, it is completely logical. Lot's of FX," but haven't tried them yet. It's also nice to have an internal power supply where any PC-type power cord will work. NO WALL WART to lose!

I have the ""record out"" connected to a digital recorder but can't wait to try the ""USB out"" to be able ot record on a PC. I may have to retire the old recorder!
As far as I can tell", built like a brick sh . . . . Well, you know!
Not cheap, but you get what you pay for! Evident with the mixer I just unplugged.

Comments about Allen & Heath ZED-10FX 6-Channel USB Mixer with Effects:

Every time I think I've exhausted all the functions of this tiny wonder, something new pops up and I realize it has yet another great function. This is the best small format mixer you can get for the money. Absolutely NO wiggle on the knobs. Great programmable effects. Can be rack mounted as well, but that takes a little more effort. The killer feature though are the TWO high Z inputs (no DI box required) and the recessed gain buttons in the rear for either boosting a few channels and/or reducing the overall outputs.
Can be transported in a laptop bag. A ton of great routing options and as an interface. I record to an iPad.
Great mixer and would definitely purchase another (possibly more channels) if this one ever breaks.

This mixing board makes almost any mic sound great! A&H EQ's are wonderful! User's manual is easy to understand and clear, with nice illustrations. This board is everything I'd expect out of an A&H mixing board, and is small enough for use on my personal computer. On-board effects are very nice, and easy to manipulate with the buttons on the mixing board. It's wonderful for recording without latency in headphones. It's very capable of pushing any (pre-recorded) sound you want down the line during a Skype or FaceTime call. The USB Stereo channel-2 is wonderful to push my music library through my stereo system using monitor out with nice tweaks over the HF and LF bands for that clarity without pushing too much of either highs or lows in the stereo mix. No more tweaking the physical knobs on my stereo system for each "CD." My only regret is that I hadn't bought the A&H ZED 10FX sooner. I could have had this audio experience all this time. I also own an A&H MixWizard 16:2 for live performance, so when I looked for a mixing board for my personal computer, A&H with USB capabilities was the best choice for me. I love this little mixing board.

This is an excellent mixer/interface with 8 inputs, I believe, total. It is easy to use from the get-go and has good sound output. I use it both for mics and occasionally instruments to sent their sound to speakers and as an interface for sending sound to a computer for recording music tracks. I actually have bought 2 of these mixers for different locations. They are study and so far, knock on wood, I have not had a single problem with them in 2-3 years or more of using them.

I would like to see mute on each channel. And on the last 2 channels treble mids and bass. Other than that a great mixer and each mixer sould come with and Allen Health BAG!.. Over all a solid and sound mixers.

I love this guy. I use it mainly for guitar and vocals and it sounds great. The FX are really good too.
Everything on this thing is awesome. The FX are amazing. The only reason I gave it four stars is because it doesn't come with a USB lead.
Great quality. Preamps are really good. Its very sturdy overall.
Amazing value. Worth every penny. Thing works great.

I'm going to keep this short. I have used a lot of different mixers over the years. Allen & Heath hands down is the best. "note: I've used mixer that make this one look like a toy" I will never buy anything else but these mixers. The only down fall I find on this model is the channel volume controls are real touchy. wish they would make this model with sliders also.

Previously had a Yamaha MG124CX Stereo Mixer with which I was very happy. had to sell it during a financially motivated "down-scaling of music related toys personal sales event". (-: decided to upgrade this time around to the Allen and Heath ZED 10fx. Wow. this is an impressive piece of recording gear. it is obviously intended for serious recording applications. just having it in my home studio makes me want to up my game and take my music more seriously. this is one of those rare cases where everything the manufacturer brags about in its description of the product is true. highly recommeded.

i give this mixer an ovre rating of 10 because its super quiet all the nobs turn with ease but have that well buit stiffness feel to them. the effects that are on it are alright but they are more analog then digital and I personally do more digital then analog! the colors of the mixer is awesome is small enough that it fits in my home studio perfet and does not take up to much room.

                        My setup is
windows XP 32bit, 4 gigs of ram core 2 duo processor
                        dual 24" monitors
                        this mixer im reviewing
                        MXL genesis mic
KRK Rokit 8 GEN 2's powered monitors
Novation Impulse 49 midi key controller
                        sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones

plus all the cables and gatagets a studio has
This mixer is just awesome PERIOD! it has more then enough fetures for any small or home recording studio. The effects are alright but i like the effects on the older model alesis usb which is programmed with 100 presets
The quality of the mixer is execellent its well built and looks great as well "it's allen&heath" what did u expext from a quality trusted brand
for the price of this mixer you cant go wrong. i purchased a
Behringer XENYX X1222USB USB Mixer with Effects
before i purchased this one and after i purchased the Alesis MultiMix 8 USB FX Regular and i have to say out of all 3 of them this one is by far the best one. "all thought i would like all the built in effects from the alesis in this mixer then this mixer would be a beast!"
but im not to worried about the effects when u have $15K wort of VST plugins i guess it really don't matter
