    Comments about Alto TS110A 600W 10" 2-Way Active Speaker:

First up, I'll mention a bit about myself, since I think knowing a bit about the reviewer's background is important. I'm a working musician of 25+ years and a mobile DJ for the last 15 years. I also have a 25 year career as a radio broadcaster, and have ran sound for bands and recording projects. I've used many professional speakers over the years from Yorkville, EV, QSC, Peavey, and many others. The other powered cabs I currently own are EV ELX112P's. Enough about me, now onto the speakers... I auditioned nearly every 10" powered cab I could find, and other than the much more expensive OSC K10's, these Altos are THE ones to get. They pack a lot more punch, and sound much better than all of the rest. They don't punch as hard as my EV ELX112P powered cabs, but those are 12", 1000 watts (peak), and over twice the price. These little Altos do pack a mighty wallop for a 10" speaker, though. There's more than enough volume for a floor wedge in a rock bar band, or mains at a small to medium sized band or DJ gig. In short, anything a sane person would ask a speaker this size to do. As far as the quality of the sound, there's certainly nothing to complain about. These are very clear and articulate, with no noticeable frequency response peaks or dips. While it doesn't have the low bass thump of a larger speaker, the bass is certainly there, and it's solid and tight. I've heard larger powered cabs that weren't nearly as solid sounding as these little guys. (And these would positively rock with a sub!) Build quality seems very good. The connectors and controls seem to be of good quality, and there's a good solid feel to everything. The handles are relatively comfortable, though they have a square-ish edge on one side. You can also tip them on their side for use as a floor wedge, and the angle is ideal for this use. The feature set is a bit spartan compared to some other active cabs, but all the important stuff is there. There are 2 combo XLR-1/4" inputs, each with their own level adjustment. No RCA inputs, so if you'll need an adapter if you want to directly connect a portable CD or MP3 player, but that's not a big deal in my opinion. The "contour" switch adds a slight bump in the bass for playback of recorded music, and it works well. A handy feature for light-traveling DJs who don't want to pack a mixer. I also like the understated visual appeal of these. They're not blinged out with ugly exposed horns and gaudy giant round grills and logos. To sum it up, I think the folks at Alto did everything right on these. They didn't woof up the bass trying to make a little speaker sound like a big one, they didn't cheap out on the build quality, and unlike a lot of other powered speakers, the specs on these are actually believable. After hearing these and the QSC K10s, which are 3.5x the price, I'm not convinced the extra expense of the QSCs is worth it. These little Altos rock, and are a great choice for stage monitors, compact mains, jam sessions, karaoke use, or pretty much anything else you don't want to pack around a bigger speaker for. As long as you keep your expectations somewhat realistic and aren't expecting chest-thumping, pants-pooping bass in a huge room, these should make you happy.

        Comments about Alto TS110A 600W 10" 2-Way Active Speaker:

I bought a pair of the 10" powered Alto speakers based on experience of ex-bandmate who has a pair of 10" and a pair of 12" Alto speakers. Primarily looking for natural transparent sound reproduction of acoustic instruments & guitar and accompanying vocal for live gigs. Have used it once so far for gig purposes and it performed to my expectations well and I received positive comments about the sound quality from listeners. Will eventually buy one more to have two mains and one monitor. I chose the 10" versions for less weight in loading/setup and did not need a lot of bass for my acoustic work. Power sufficient for my needs. So far so good.

                Comments about Alto TS110A 600W 10" 2-Way Active Speaker:

I purchased the original 10" version four years ago and was impressed by their sound and performance. Since that first purchase, I've also bought the TS 112 As and the TS 115 As. They are simply an incredible line of affordable speakers with a clean powered sound. I especially like the fan cooling, the ground lift switch and the frequency bass boost each model has, plus having two separate inputs with adjustable volume is just something I don't see in a lot of speakers. As another review pointed out, they are not JBLs with 1000 watts of power. But seriously, in this size of speaker, how much power do you need? I use this for weddings. I put them atop my speaker stands 8 feet up. That's enough audio to comfortably sound the dance floor and most of an average sized 2500 to 4000 sq ft room. Last summer I provided light and sound for a festival. I had a pair of Behringers and a pair of the 12" Altos in separate locations for solo artists. I was asked by several acoustic artists if they could use the Altos exclusively, not the Behringers. They do sound great. I'm a believer, otherwise I would not invest in this line. I've owned other speakers including Eons, Peavys, Yamahas... for the money, you won't go wrong with these speakers.

                Comments about Alto TS110A 600W 10" 2-Way Active Speaker:

I bought the 10" Alto to be a DJ monitor for mobile DJing. I wanted more speaker than I needed. All DJs know that monitors blow when they aren't loud enough. It was clearer and louder the comparable Berhinger. The Berhinger had a cool feedback filter but I chose the Alto because I didn't need the filter and I wanted the better sounding, louder Alto. When I first plugged it in and cranked it up the gain on the amp vibrated to the louder mic setting, when in the wedge position. I just taped it in place because I didn't want to deal with a repair or anything. It worked out fine for my 13 hour on/off DJ performance. It was a hot enough day to make me worry about overheating but it had no problems with that. The Alto gave me enough power to hear though all the stage echoes. It was so loud that the engineer was joking that he was trying to set up his monitors and huge main stage speakers but all he could hear was my little Alto. lol I wish they had the limiter light on the front of the speaker so you can see it while in the wedge position. Even though I had to tape the gain on it, I'm willing to overlook that solved problem, and I'm happy with my Alto purchase.

My band uses this 10" Alto as a floor monitor. It's a great speaker!

I first listened to this in person and couldn't believe how much better this sounded than the Beringer I had initially been intersted in. After hearing it, there was no comparison. If you compare the Alto speakers to other powered speakers of the same size (10") and power, they are in a class all by themselves. They blow away anything of similar price. The sound quality is really excellent. And they are very durable and well made. Sturdy--they seem to be designed to take road use with no problem. Comparable speakers of a similar size and power and comparable sound quality are twice the price. For the money, they have no competition. We love these speakers and are exremely happy with them.

Bought this to fill in sound on an acoustic amp combo PA rig. Am playing a Yairi DY62c and singing with a Sennheiser 835, both through a Genz Benz Shen 60 LT, and the vocals were tad thin. I got this to fill out the sound, and couldnt be more pleased. I run the mic through a TC Helicon Harmony GXT into the amp. The guitar runs through a Jam Man looper, into the GXT,and into the amp. Can either run the Alto speaker as a line out from the back of the amp, or use the stereo out from the TC Helicon to route it directly to both the front of the amp and the Alto. The ten inch speaker provides plenty of the depth I was looking for, and works great for a one man acoustic act. It really makes the Harmony pedal sound great. Very pleased with the sound.

Both of my guitarest play out of 100 Watt Tube stacks, and I can hear my vocals perfectly over them. I love this product. Just make sure to treat it well, and you shouldn't have any problems.

                            Comments about Alto TS110A 600W 10" 2-Way Active Speaker:

My primary use of this speaker is as a floor monitor for an ACOUSTIC group. I needed a keyboard amp and was disappointed in the costs and sound quality of the traditional key amps. I bought this for my keys and its become the bands floor monitor. It's extremely clear and has the capability of going much louder.

If you're anything more than an acoustic group, I'd probably go to the 12" version but for our needs it's incredibly compact and has an amazing sound.

PS - Not sure why anyone is complaining about 'Limited Functions'. It's a powered speaker, not a mixer. I realize the QSC's have more functionality but they also cost 4x as much. Relax.
