I purchased this player a few months ago and everything was working great. I used it at a couple of wedding receptions and had no complaints. I liked the player. This past weekend I was working a class reunion and after 5 hours everything went well. Then with 10 minutes left in the show, I load a cd, que it up and start looking for the next request. I looked back and the player and it said "No CD". I opened the player, the cd was in the player. I verified that the cd was ok by putting another cd in it. Then to try and fix the problem, I power the player down and bring it back up. Still nothing. I try a couple more times only to find that the drawer will not close. No I have one cd drawer sticking half way out. I have not be able to get in touch with the manufacture yet (Too early. Will be able to shortly) to figure out what is going to happen now.
Not a lot of "bells and whistles". But if your looking for a basic easy to use unit this is a good buy for the money. It tends to lock up if play is pushed immediately after loading a cd and you will have to shut down the unit and turn it back on for it to play again. I have been using it for 10 months now and if careful its very reliable.
This is a great cd player I have owned it and used it daily for about 8 months now. I have not had one problem with it. The loop is pretty much seamless (very hard to notice). It has a very instanious start. The "Q Start" feature makes dj'in simple and fun. I highly recomend this Cd player.
I purchased this unit from Musician's Friend about 4 months ago. The intention was to use it for baking up my main system. Overall, this is a very solid unit. The display is very bright, and easy to see in the daylight. Before field use, I put it though some tests. It played nearly everything I could throw at it. However, it did not recognise one of my Verbatim MP3 disks. Also, if you load up a CD with MP3's, keeping track can get difficult. I burned a MP3 CDR and made a list of all the songs on it. Make sure all the MP3's are on the root directory, if you use folders your going to run into numbering problems. Also, if there is a track that the player doesn't like, it will remove it from the count, so, what you have listed as track 50, will become 49. Pretest all of your MP3's! This unit comes with looping. ITS NOT SEEMLESS. There is a distinct pause. I cant figure out why American Audio would put looping on a product unless it was seemless. Bottom Line: This is not a feature rich unit. It has many of the basic features necessary for normal DJ usage. If you are looking for the bells and whistles, look elsewhere, but be prepared to pay for it! The MCD 510 is a great buy, well worth the price.DJ Groovielou
I purchased this American DJ MCD-510 CD/MP3 player brand new and used it for about 4 months as a DJ for weddings. Suddenly it started acting up. The CD players would occasionally freeze up in the middle of a show and you would have to power cycle the unit to get it to work again. After being sent in for warranty service, the player works again but is now having trouble reading some CDs. The CD player has all of the necessary features and functions that a wedding DJ would need but the reliability is in question.
I have the MCD-510 and, had it for less than 6 mos. and the left side keeps freezing up after an hour or less of playing/mixing. Needs to have better wear. For less than 6 mos.
So I get this unit just in time (thank you Musicians Friend shipping department!), install it in my SKB case (very quick, straight forward install). At first glance, this unit is very sleek and noticeably solid. The pictures just don?t do it justice. At first glance, the jog wheels appear weak, but place your hand on one and you?ll notice they are very solid and have a very smooth movement to them. Each button has a noticeable ?notch? feel when depressed this adds to the well-built feel. The blue backlit display is easy on the eyes and viewable at almost every angle. The MCD-510 played everything I threw at it! MP3 CD?s with variable bit rate files, no problem. I inserted over 6 different brands of CDR and each one played without a hiccup. Overall, audio CD?s and MP3 CD?s loaded very quickly. However, I did notice a VERY minor delay with MP3 CD?s. The relay playback or ?Flip Flop? feature is an excellent for auto play applications. NOTE: The manual says you need an American Audio mixer to use this feature, this is not so. Twenty second anti-skip is ALWAYS a value-added feature. The only negative issue I need to address here is the looping. It is most definitely not seamless, although it would be nice. Overall, this unit is well worth the Benjamin?s! If you need the basic functionality of a dual CD player with MP3 capability, this is the unit for you!
I received this cd player for christmas, and have found it to be very nice for the money. It plays all my cds and doesnt skip! The only problem I have is when you are using the looping feature, there is a delay between the loops which is annoying.
