American DJ hit a home run with this product.

Comments about American DJ Flat Par TRI18 LED PAR Can:

I provide sound and lighting for hire for live music as my primary application of all my equipment. I also provide mood lighting in social events (banquets, wedding, parties, etc) I have never seen any brand or model of LED that did not have some value for DJ applications, but for stage wash for "theater" or "concerts", many LED fixtures fall down. So, my partner and I devised a practial test. We took a white wall on the back of a stage inside a local auditorium for our test site. We placed the TRI18 LEDs approximately 16 ft from the wall and about 16 ft apart...basically, about the size of a small venue band stand. We placed the fixtures on the floor because tripods were not available. We "cross fired" the light fixtures. The fixture on stage left shined towards the back of stage right and vice versa. Our goal was to spread the output to cover the entire 16x16 space. The light easily projected and provided coverage from about "mid calf" height on a performer to about 8-10 ft high.

The color was rich and very full at 100% dimmer, even at 50% dimmer, the light was projecting strong color and plenty of light for the audience to see a performer.

How bright? Well, we did not have a meter, but it was uncomfortable to stand about 10 ft in front of the fixture trying to see "over the light" to the audience...obviously, that would not have been a problem if the lights were pole mounted, but it shows how strong and intense the light was.

Most of the small venues we work can easily be carried with just two of the TRI18 LED fixtures for stage wash. I would eventually like to pick up a second pair so I can handle outdoor events with just the four TRI18 LED devices. Throw some LED bars across the backline and you are good to go...

No heat from the lights...low current draw. ADJ hit a home run in my book.
I have used a lot of different lighting fixtures over the last few years and am very happy with the TRI18 LED. Internal DMX512 control, control panel on back for individual fixture control and XLR/DMX in/out jacks to permit group operation via remote DMX board. Full color spectrum capability from very useable white to rich reds, deep blues and bright yellows....and all colors in between. There is a place to connect a safety cable (they even provided the safety cable) so you can safetly fly these on overhead trussing. And they even have a double bracket so they can stand alone on the floor.

But the best feature is the 3 Watt tricolor LED used on the fixture. BRIGHT! Think 500 Watt Par64 bright.
Well built, solid feeling. This is not flimsy, thin, pot metal like so many imported light fixtures. This is a "pro level" piece of hardware. Lighting is bright, easy to set up...everything I wanted at a "reasonable" price.
I exchanged comments several times with an ADJ rep before I convinced myself to spend the money for the TRI18 LED and am glad I made the decision. I previously used six P64LED fixtures (around 190+ 10mm LEDs) from a different manufacturer, cost was around $180ish per fixture. Two TRI18 LED fixtures will produce more light than those six P64LED style fixtures with the multiple 10mm LEDs. The older technology fixtures I had used dip switches to assign commands to the fixtures so you could use a DMX dimmer...the TRI18 LED has simple controls on the back that tell you what you are doing, and you can run master/slave operation or you can run full DMX mode via onboard controls or via a remote DMX board.

TRI18 LED Par...IMPRESSIVE STAGE LIGHTING

Comments about American DJ Flat Par TRI18 LED PAR Can:

We set these two TRI18 up for a practical test for a "stage wash" for a live band. Using the lights on the two front corners of a 16 ft wide x 14 ft deep "stage" with a flat white background...we crossfired the lights across the stage area (think setting the lights in an "X" configuration). These lights are more than adequate for that large of a space. We easily covered from 10 ft tall to the ground, 16 ft wide and 14 ft deep. We played with every internal operational program. SWEET! Even at 50% intensity, there was plenty of lighting that 50 ft in front of the stage you could see the faces of the "performers"...at 100% intensity, you could see small details. GREAT stage wash...great effects lighting.

I hope to have time to put up a review of the RGB-3C LED controller in the near future...sweet tool, very low cost, worked excellent...the kind of thing that if you have to divide your attention (DJ changing media, KJ trying to load up the next requested tune, performing musician trying to play and run lights at the same time) you can control the device very easily...well worth the price.
I recently purchased two TRI18 LED Par fixtures and an ADJ RGB-3C LED controller to use with my band...LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCE LIGHTING. While these lights would work well for an event company (weddings, receptions) or for a DJ/KJ (dance floor lighting) I purchased these lights for STAGE WASH...and they are OUTSTANDING in that application.

There are 18 tri-LED 3 Watt lamps in each fixture. The 18 lamps each can change Red, Blue and Green or any combination. The fixtures can be controlled via on board-internal controls or via DMX512 protocol. There is a built in safety cable attachment point and the safety cable is included in the package when purchased. The fixtures also have dual brackets for floor mounting or can be mounted on truss or tripod stands. There are numerous modes of operation including sound active or auto program mode, manual color mode and a host of others. Slave-master operation is also a built in option.

The bottom line is this: These bad boys are BRIGHT. When run in DMX mode at 100%, it is difficult to look into the fixture when used as a stage wash...they are that bright. They have very INTENSE COLOR SATURATION...the color is rich and lush, even when running at 50% or less intensity (DMX). The WHITE IS USEABLE for illumination...whether for a toast or solo singer or wedding or guest speaker...you can take the "party" to a "business" event by simply "turning on the light"...kind of handy for break down and packing at the end of the gig if you are outdoors...and the fixtures stay cool to the touch, so you can use the light until you unplug it and not get burns from handling the hot lights.
I was impressed with the way ADJ thought out these fixtures. These are not "cheap lights for low budget applications". These are as professional as any fixtures I have seen. The fact that ADJ was wise enough to include the safety cable and safety cable attachment point on the rear was enough to convince me that they had thought thru lots of the features...nice, solid, hefty.
These two TRI18 are replacing six "first generation" P64 LED fixtures with 196 10mm LEDs. It is simply adequate to say that two TRI18 out performed the combined six P64 LED. Far less money for two fixtures than for six fixtures.

Flat Par Tri 18

Comments about American DJ Flat Par TRI18 LED PAR Can:

I am excited about using these instruments; they are absolute hotrods and make me think that the Par 64 version would be incredible and I probably need to take another look at the Flat Par Tri 7 instruments. I am gonna love these lights--I could string ten of them on a 20 amp breaker and still have headroom...and the led sources will virtually never fail.
Oh, yeah, this is money well spent.
I had tried a different, lower priced package and I got lower priced package results. I didn't want to pay the price for these lights, but I have to say that they are astounding. I purchased only four to operate with a Chauvet Obey 70 and played with them in my living room. The setup was mindless and the power of these lights is absolutely staggering! The vivid RGB and color macro functions combined with the strobe function and dimming capabilities fried my brain. The intensity of the lights is on par with an atomic explosion. They have a three year warranty, too! I don't need more, but I want more...
Built like a tank...a really wicked tank. Even the packaging is good.
Alright, the lights are fantastic; I would have appreciated a lower price, but I definitely got what I paid for. I will eventually buy more of them.
