Any effect that changes your voice that is noticeable is not a good thing. The Antares is completely transparent when used properly. The only cons for this device I have found is the auto tune has to be manually set up for each song. If you are singing a note that is not in the normal major or minor scales it will try to correct it, unless you enter that note into the scale. Overall I feel for the cost this machine has a superior quality than the other pitch correctors on the market. In the studio it is essential however it might be troublesome used in a live application without a good sound man to run it for you. As for the guy that got zapped by the machine itself I understand your feelings but be aware that what happened to you was a fluke, This processor is very well made and has never given me or any other reviewer's problems like you had. The device could use XLR connectors along with the 1/4" jacks but that's only a minor issue solved by simply using a direct box or insert cable from the board. I highly recommend this unit. You can't make a bad vocal track using an Antares.

I quess it's the brand name that jacks the price up
This is what the manual states "1. Non-existent Power Switch That’s right. There isn’t one. The AVP is designed to remain on continuously. You can, of course, plug it in to a switched power strip or power conditioner if you like, but leaving it on all the time will do it no harm"...so you gotta wonder where else did they cut corners ???..having this put in with the other racks in my studio and use the AC conditioner power down to have to turn it off is not.. well is not good for me..but just so you know about Non-existent Power Switch, but other wise I like the product, because I got a good deal on it but at regular price I won't buy it too expensive.
Cheap Chasis/funky front panel
Too pricey/no xlr of any kind

This unit does provide a smooth vocal channel compared to other units I've used for this purpose, but the autotune should have been the same caliber as the rest of the machine.
Conceptually, this is one of the coolest vocal processors I've seen for the price, but the parameters are not tight enough to fit it into my mixes without noticing that the key of the scale is not exactly perfect. The detune function allows to compensate for this, but this is the main parameter that is just not tight enough between increments. My throat is sore from trying to compensate for the machine.
Parameters should not have been bundled together for ease to the degree present in the machine. It would be nice to have the option to take the marginal nuances and shift them without affecting other nuances. I found that the speed of the autotune was developed in conjunction with the effectiveness of the autotune function. Although the sensitivity setting is available to work these parameters, the engineers should go back to the drawing board on this. There's just not enough control here.
I didn't mind spending the money to get this unit brand new, but it should have cost half of what I paid for it.

You have other issues my friend. This unit uses a 9 VOLT wall wart for power! You could barely electrovute an ant with that. Seriously. What is MORE LIKELY the case is your rack rails are electrified by someother faulty piece of gear or the 1/4 connector you were attempting to plug in was. I am guessing your studio buzzes like mad. I suggest having a PROFESSIONAL evaluate your issue. Furthermore, if the unit was blown out of the box as you say it was I guarantee you it happened when you hooked up your faulty wiring to it. Cheers!

I was so impressed with ths units performance I immediately recorded a demo song using auto-tune just so my friends could hear the capability. It's mind blowing. Anyone can sound like T-Pain or Cher in seconds.

Be careful buying one of these. Mine arrived with the Main output not working, auto-tune feature was not working when I used the other output, and last but not least, while I was unplugging a simple 1/4" cable from the unit, I GOT ELECTROCUTED!! It was pretty bad. My whole arm is still tingling almost an hour later. Needless to say I will be sending it back. Antares is lucky I'm not one of the sue-happy morons in our society today. Whatever electricity was flowing through that 1/4" cable should not have been there, and probably could have caused a fire.

Don't even hesitate - worth it for the auto-tune module alone. Set up is incredibly simple, user's manual is outstanding. Not crazy about a lack of an on/off switch, but no big deal - I just unplug it from the strip when not in use. It looks like this is a clearance item (hopefully they have a new model coming out?). I would not hesitate to grab one of these before they're gone.

This was an awesome buy for my home studio! Auto tune was the main reason for purchasing this product. Auto tune works great sounds good. Mic mod is ok not bad still don't know if i like them or not. I like my own mic's alot. Love the output boost on it really helps out. All in all this is a must have for any small studio! All features on this are pretty good depends on your taste and what your doing. Manual reads really easy straight forward, you'll be rockin' in no time. So quit reading reviews and buy this thing already!!

Comments about Antares AVP Vocal Producer:
This is one of the first pieces of outboard gear I purchased for my studio, and it is a great little unit. Typically I use the avp primarily for it's autotune, gate, and de-esser, and occasionally for double tracking (I prefer to do it manually most of the time). The mic modeler was rather unimpressive, but I still tend to leave it on, because it's never seemed to detract from the sound. Honestly all I wanted the unit for was autotune, but the gate came in handy for cutting out extra noise, and the de-esser as well!Having to run an extra recording pass is a slight inconvenience, but it just goes along with all of my other outboard gear. I only wish this unit could do some sort of midi programming - if you're trying to tune a fairly complex song (musically) you'll probably be tweaking the unit throughout to make sure it's only tuning to the right notes, and you'll have to go through the song a couple of times to make a note of what notes to turn on/off at what point in the song.I haven't used it live yet, but I do plan to at some point. Also, the fact that I can autotune with 0% processor hit is great!
