Comments about ART SLA-2 Studio Power Amplifier:
Unfortunately the fan is unacceptably loud. I was not even using it in a studio situation but for a bass amp head, and it is too loud. The manual describes it as a two-speed fan, and when I first turned it on, I thought the fan was stuck in high speed. I was goiong to return it to ART for repair, but before I did I played the amp at high enough power to kick in the fan's high speed. It was like a 747 taking off. It was clearly audible over my bass playing. It wasn't stuck in high speed at all, it's just unacceptably loud. I returned it to MF for a refund.
It lacks Speakon connections, probably because there just isn't enough room on the back panel. It provides banana plug binding posts.
Solidly built, no complaints about quality.
If you value saving space, it's one of the best values. Fits in a Gator shallow rack case. It is heavier than 2U class D amps. Sounds very clean and transparent.
Comments about ART SLA-2 Studio Power Amplifier:
I have had this amp for about 2 and 1/2 yrs. It is clean, quiet, loud and most importantly-dependable. I say this because it took a 4 foot drop off my bass cab in a rack of 75lbs. at a gig. I immediately brought in a backup amp. There was no way it should have survived. It hit so hard that the front plate bent-out on one side and it is thick metal! Needless to say when I got home and fired it up, it did not even sneeze. Yea its supposed to be a studio monitor amp but read the manual and you discover its 2ohm stable and quite versatile. I have used it as a live rig for bass and guitar as well as keyboards and studio usage. When you see the massive heat sinks and build quality you will be a believer. for a one rack space amp you will not find a better built amp. The only other one space that has more power that I know of are the crown K1 and K2 amps that are much more expensive. You can get a more poweful amp for this price but if your looking for portabillity and build quality-look no further.
