The Ashly CLX-52 is a 2-channel compressor/limiter that uses an "infinite soft-knee" characteristic and timing based on compression ratio. This, combined with a dual release time, allows program density to increase as the input signal increases. The result is a peak controller with very low noise, smooth sound, and excellent stereo tracking, and without the usual "constricted" limiter sound. The CLX-52 has many ways to deal with any gain structure. The mechanical design is ready for years of rugged service and is backed by Ashly's exclusive Five Year Worry-Free Warranty. The CLX-52 is extremely useful for such diverse applications as loudspeaker protection, vocal level control, broadcast limiting, musical instrument sustain, special effects, and CD to cassette transfers.

    I spent a lot of time looking at compression for bass, and wound up with the Ashly CLX-52. Bottom line, it delivers exactly the compression I require and levels out the overall sound. Great purchase, extremely happy, and hope to use this for a very long time.

    I am not sure why, but these compressors seem to lose all sorts of value on the used market. They are outstanding in their field. These well-made, very, very useful compressors run like a champ, are extremely valuable in live sound, bass guitar rigs and show great usefulness in recording. It is my understanding they use the same sort of circuit as the DBX 160 stuff, but look around and you will see the Ashly CL compressors are consistently cheaper. The sound is precise, a little generic, but very clean and of high value. There is no gate... who needs a gate???? This compressor is doing one job VERY well. If you have only one compressor, this would be a good one to own. If you have a rack full of 1176, La2a, distressors and so on, this compressor is still a great compressor... just no one seems to realize it. Do yourself a favor and add one to your collection. It is solid.
