I've been using these to record and mix with. Great value. These are not the loudest headphones, so if you need a lot of volume, these may not be for you. The mids are a little weak, but the clarity is awesome. They are comfortable and lightweight. It takes some getting used to before getting good mixes with them, but it can be done. Best inexpensive headphones I have owned.

If you NEED to hear stuff, they work. The sound quality is not that good at all. Muffled. Don't expect the "closed can" to cut any noise out. They don't. In fact, and I'm NOT kidding, I can hear ambient room noise, BETTER with them on than with them off. Speech comes right through them I've had mine for about a year now, and they have held together and are pretty comfortable. I keep seeing people commenting on headphones saying "Don't use these for mixing." Well, Duh. Don't use HEADPHONES for mixing! That's what flat response monitors are for! I use mine as cheap monitor in a high quality home studio, only when I need to mic, because I don't have an isolation booth. They work fine for it, but if you would rather better sound quality while recording, I'd recommend looking at something else. I have a fifty dollar Sony set bought at Kmart with much better sound quality. These are "okay," but better phones are out there for the same price. I only have mine because they came with a Zoom recorder.

not really that good

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

If you want a cheap pair of cans, go for the M2x instead, they have much much better bass response and the cable is like a mile long. The only thing wrong with them is they are on-ear and not over-ear. Seriously, they sound way better. If you want quality, go for the M40s or M50s.The M20s are a weird compromise between the two and I don't recommend them at all.

    Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

I have been using the M10 model for some time. When it disappeared, I tried one of these M20's. They are more comfortable to wear, and have the same quiet, isolated sound of the M10's. I am quite satisfied.

      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

I got these as part of a bundle. I really didn't expect much after reading all the mediocre reviews and ended up being plesantly surprised. They sound great. At first I heard static when playing my guitar, but I noticed the same static came through my speakers after playing back my recording and what I was hearing was clipping. Some I/O adjustments and they are clear as day. They're not high dollar headphones, but they are sturdy, have a nice long cable and a good clear sound when used as monitors for playing guitar. They very acurately sound the same as my rig aloud, my recordings through my home system and the stereo in my car. May not be good enough for an audiophile, but if you want an affordable set of headphones that feel and sound good, these will do the trick just fine.

      Apples and Oranges

      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

Having been impressed by the quality of Audio Technica Microphones I've used I decided to purchase these headphones. Big mistake! They sounded as "tinny" as an old, cheap transistor radio. I have a pair of Radio Shack headphones that cost half as much and sound 100 times better.

      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

Only pair of headphones I've ever bought, and I still need a headphone amp to get them to work out of both ears... But it sounds good though, only thing I don't like about it is the ear padding, it's sorta uncomforteble... Besides that these are great!

      Not good for mixing/monitoring

      By MultiDoseRecords

      from Ks

      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

Certainly not my best buy. I've tried Audio Technica before and was dissatisfied. I thought if I took a slight step up to one of their mid range products I would get a decent sound. But not so... the sound out of these is exactly that, mid range and too dark and lacking completely in the highs. They don't even touch my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones. Of course your gonna spend a lot more, but they're worth it especially when your doing mixing to get an accurate representation of the sound. Furthermore, since I can't trust my Audio Technicas for mixing, I'm now using them for general audio listening and enjoyment using Real player with the built in EQ to tweek the sound coming out of these cans. They do sound ok now. But you shouldn't have to do that when mixing... mix like the professionals with professional monitors or headphones. And this is not to mention my dissatisfaction with the wear of the headphones. Kind of loose, like they're not gone stay on ya if your moving around. and in general the sound isolation is not that good as a result. My beyers on the other hand are like cans clamped to your head and they don't move! but they're still very comfortable thanks to the plush cushioning around the cups. Thick and very nice!

      Great, but...

      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

After two years of general use, they are finally showing some wear and tear. Something in the wiring must've come loose because I don't get the full two-ear sound; it cuts out back and forth. I got these with a Tascam recording package and was impressed with the sound and length of the cord, which are two good features. They're good, decent headphones, but like anything else, they have to be replaced sooner or later.

      They don't sound that great

      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20 Closed-Back Headphones:

Got these headphones as part of a package. They sound very poor in comparison to my Sennheiser HD202s. I have to admit, they are super comfortable although. But for the price, I would pick the Sennheisers instead.
