Just got my kid a set of "Dr. Dre Solo Beats HD", well.... we hooked them up to his iphone - - tried every EQ setting - they were ok.....then got home and I plugged in my ATH-M2X to my home computer (Logictech THX 2.1 - 200 watts - a good sound card that has bass & treble adjustments).
Well I like the Audio Technica's better, they have a better high end response - the Beats have a more mid to bass response like a 250 EQ. We tried both sets of headphones on the home PC and his iphone with the same song playing each time.
The Beats sound ok, but really save your money and go with the Audio Technica's. (You'll be able to hear the Zildjian Cymbals better).

ATH - M2X = Great product for a killer price....

I bought these because of the price; they are not expensive, to be fair. However, they don't fit well, they feel like they are flaring away from my head underneath, rather than fitting snugly. I don't have this issue with other headphones (Bose, Sennheiser, AKG). The sound is okay, but muddy. They are flimsy, but I have yet to find out how durable.

Great headphones!

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M2X Stereo Headphones:

These are great over heads for the price. I just bought mine today. They fit great and the sound qualitiy is what I expected from Audio Technica. I'm mainly using them for mixing and mastering songs that I record at my mini home studio. Great sound!

They sounded better in the package.

By voxcortboss

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M2X Stereo Headphones:

Over the last 16 years these are probably my 8th pair of headphones in this price range, not bad. I use headphones for a boombox, guitar amp, preamp and with a digital recorder. The ATH M2X's are the worst headphones I have ever owned. The sound quality is similar to a Thomas Edison's. The earsnugs are removable, which is a useful feature thats rare for this price range but the overall quality is subpar for similar headphones. I'm used to $20 headphones and I tried but after awhile I gave up and used my old headphone(<not plural anymore). There are other options in that price range so I would recommend you pick a different brand until Audio Technica can solve any issues.

Heard much better

By bob-BJ-.X

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M2X Stereo Headphones:

I was quite disappointed especially since they wear the name Audio Technica. I expected much better. They don't fit snug at the bottom of the ears and sound quality is poor. High end and clairity is expecially bad. Either spend more or get another brand.

Sound Great

By studio

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M2X Stereo Headphones:

Sound great, you are not paying much, but a lot for the cost. I use them for recording and they seem to allow for a nice mix when burnt to a cd. Done expect them to last long, I replace them once a year...usually they can be easily fixed with a soldering iron, but its cheaper to buy new ones. I like 'em, I have been using them for years and all of my studio buddies like them too. They are 100 times better than the crap you get by spending maybe $60 or more. Unless you want to spend hundreds get these. If its too muddy then you are eq'd wrong.

a purchase I regret

By steve-mAx05

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M2X Stereo Headphones:

This is probably the most disappointing piece of musical equipment I've ever purchased. The sound through the headphones is very muddy due to far to much bass. In addition to using the ATH-M2X headphone with a digital 8 track, I tried them on my cd player. My cheap headphones that came with my discman produced a much more accurate reproduction of the recorded music.

Good Sound, Low Price

By Music_Period

from Fayetteville, North Carolina

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M2X Stereo Headphones:

The quality of these headphones is surprisingly good, though they are inexpensive. These "cheap" headphones are not by any means "cheap" sounding. Though some people prefer the more expensive versions of everything, if you can deal with not paying under $$ for some headphones, these are a steal.

Not up to AT standards

By soundguy63

from Graham, NC

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M2X Stereo Headphones:

I feel these phones have poor sound. The bass is muddy and sounds overhyped because of the lack of top end response. The midrange is also very unclear. The phones don't pivot to fit, they only move up and down. I find them uncomfortable.
