If you are using this to get away from stage clutter, keep the receiver in close proximity to your guitar and you should be fine. A lot of public services, i.e. State Troopers, aviation, marine, and emergency management operate in the VHF range and may intefere occasionally if they are close by. Our youth praise team use this at the same venue weekly in a 30 by 50 foot room with few complaints and it fits our budget. If you are a total shredder and you are gigging in different places and running around the stage and into the crowd, this probably won't fill the bill. Your sound tech. will know what will work and what won't.
Very simple unit with an adjustment for guitar or mic. level, depending on the application. Low power switch , for conserving the battery or High power to improve reception and reduce local interference.
Very easy to operate with good instructions on how to set the unit up. This is not a sophisticated professional grade product, however, for the price it is durable enough and reliable enough to support most guitarist who want one less cord tying them down..

I have a 700 series AT wireless and it works like a dream! The 251, I'd pass on. I bought this as a quick fix for my wireless needs for my bass. It does the job but, it sucks tone. Also, if you stand near metal or go a fair distance it cuts out. While it does the job, save the money for the 700 series, its worth it. Also, you have to buy the cable seperately (which they fail to mention) and AT customer service is complete crap.

I could play even from one side of the house through the walls and everything. The sound is pretty incredible for being wireless. Will update while I play with it more.

Bottom line - If you want a Shenheiser or Line6 unit and can afford it - do it. Othewwise - This is a great option for backups or beginning players.
Just make absoluteluy SURE to read the manuals & set all the internal & external switches and pots and your golden. Anyone that gives this a bad rating simply has no clue how to set up their rig.
A very simple set- I keep mounted in my rack as a backup to my old Senheiser. Find myself using it more and more recently. No tone suckage if you know how to use your gear effectively. There are internal ipd switches with a n internal tool to make setting adjustments n thetransmitter. This is where most prople go wrong with it I feel. You HAVE to know your gear before you play it out.
Good distance for a VHF - which "flavors" tone much less then UHF recievers in my opinion. Defineately a "no-brainer" for club gigs and the like where extreme distances are not an issue. biggest issue - MAKE SURE that you dont have another mic/instrument wireles working on VHF or Chan 2 UHF.
No issues - works like a champ. Have dropped several times. DO RECOMEND that you run the power supply to a Furman / Juice Goose distributor which takes care of drop-outs 100%. Correct Voltage does wonders for wireless.
BEST wireless for the low cost. As a Player for 20+ years - and a veteran of the Nashvill union circut I always recomend buying the best you can afford, and making sure that your gear is connected using the best quality cables you can get your hands on - and dont forget power conditioning for any wreless unit.
Bottom line - If you want a Shenheiser or Line6 unit and can afford it - do it. Othewwise - This is a great option for backups or Beginning players.

I bought this wireless and had problems from the first time I plugged it in, it fed back, snapped cracked and popped, I returned it for warranty and they returned it saying they could identify no problems, so now I was out the cost of shippingto.
Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-251 Freeway VHF Guitar Wireless System:
It is cheap and picks up white noise and radio signals. It often cracks in and out, especially at larger gigs where there are lots of signals flying around. Spend the extra 100 to get a more effective wireless. I own this, but I never use it. I use patch chord because I know the wireless will just conk out on me.

A great wireless system! It works for very long distances and gives a clear sound. It is easy to use and is just plain awesome! I've had it for about 2 years now and I've had no problems at all!

I purchased this product for a big show my band was playing, it was by far the best investment i made for the show. Both me and my other guitarist had wireless systems and spent alot of time running through the crowd. It is not the top of the line wireless but it gets the job done at a decent price.
Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-251 Freeway VHF Guitar Wireless System:
this thing is great and affordable. When I first got it it worked great. I could walk anywhere. I went from one side of my house to the other then went upstairs and i hear the bass clear as if I was right there plugged in with a cord. I have not ever used it in a gig yet but it is starting to all go down hill. My biggest problem is the antenna on the body pack. It is long, flaps around and decides to pick up signal when i it wants. I put new batteries and tried everything to get it working but it just won't work.
Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-251 Freeway VHF Guitar Wireless System:
The bass player in my band gave me this when he got his new expensive wireless system. I tried using it at a gig, and after I walked out about fifty feet or so it started crackling and feeding back. Secondly, when any radios go off(like cops, security, etc.) you get more crackle from that. It's cool if you're messing around, but I don't recommend it for active musicians.
