Audio-Technica

High quality UHF wireless affordably priced.

The Audio Technica ATW-702 UHF Handheld Wireless System includes the ATW-R700 receiver, the ATW-T702 handheld unidirectional dynamic microphone/transmitter, and the AT8456a Quiet-Flex stand clamp. The ATW-702 UHF Handheld wireless system delivers professional features and sound quality unheard of in its class. This easy-to-use wireless microphone system feature eight selectable frequency-coordinated channels, diversity operation for increased range/reliability, manual and automatic frequency scanning, Tone Lock squelch and more.

The ATW-702 wireless system provides a choice of eight PLL synthesized UHF frequencies in the 542-561 MHz band (TV channels 26-29). For multiple-mic applications as many as eight systems may be used together.

ATW-R700 Receiver

The ATW-R700 receiver features diversity reception. Logic circuitry monitors reception, selecting the superior signal from two antennas, providing better sound quality and reducing the possibility of interference and dropouts. Soft-touch controls provide convenient access to selection of operating frequency and automatic scanning, while an LED display indicates selected channel and scanning operation. The ATW-R700 receiver also features a sophisticated Tone Lock tone squelch system that opens the receiver's audio output only when a 700 Series transmitter is detected, reducing the possibility of interference.

ATW-T702 handheld transmitter
The ATW-T702 handheld dynamic microphone/transmitter features a rugged dynamic unidirectional element designed for professional live-sound venues. The ATW-T702 uses two 1.5V AA batteries for economical operation and wide availability and also features a multicolor Power/Mute/Battery indicator. Includes AT8456a Quiet-Flex stand clamp for A-T handheld wireless transmitters, with 5/8"-27 threads.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

As was mentioned in a prior review.     My 2 mic began to cut in and out and then quit.     We had not had them a year yet.     Sound was good.     Ease of use was good and the output control was a nice feature.     The mics went through normal use and were well taken care of.

All in all, a great idea but poor quality control on Audio Technica's part.

I direct a musical each year at the high school where I teach, and we have been growing our collection of wireless mics over the past few years. I am amazed that such quality mics and receiver are so affordable now. We are up to 11 mics - 3 of them are these models. These Audio-Technica's blow our other Sennheiser and Audio-Technica models out of the water. The receivers feel high quality, the mics are clear, and the ability to use 8 channels means it is very easy to expand our system. This particular model has a flesh-coloured headworn mic and with a tiny piece of medical tape, it stays in place during a 3h show. For general use (no running around and jumping on tables, etc.) it would stay on fine without tape. Great features (like trimming output on the trasmitter pack as well as the receiver) make these a must buy.

I needed a wireless mic, and since my guitarist and bass player had recently gone wireless, I worried about conflicting frequencies.  No worries here with 8 frequencies to select from.  The quality was not the best, plastic receiver, plastic mic but it wasnt flimsy either.  The most amazing thing was range with my unit.  They say 200'..it was well over that for me.  I was able to put two interior walls, and a 10-12 inch exterior wall as well as another 100 YRDS between myself and the unit before the unit cut out.  Overall I'm satisfied, will probably find a way to make my own mic casing for it, as I mentioned it is just plastic, so its not gonna be up for heavy abuse.

Purchasing these 2 mics was the worse decision. We have services each week. Playing and singing in a band. One started cutting in and out a short time after i got it. Sent it back and got another one. Well, the other one started cutting in and out. Now it is completley out. The one that is still working has been giving us trouble. So I ordered two shure mics. What a difference! These Audio-Technica mics were just a big headache! Just pay more for a better mic!
