Not for every cab or speaker

By Karl Houseknecht

from Palmyra, VA

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

Given how it won't work with my setup, that it has limited placement options, and that it picks up cab vibrations, I had to take mine back. Just didn't work out for me. If you've got a brighter amp like a Fender or speakers where miking up the cone edge is what you're after, then you might have a different experience.
Clamps securely over the top or on the side of your cab or combo. Keeps mic placement from moving. Clips hold the mic cable in place out of the way. This is great for crowded stages and consistent mic placement.

However, if you have a cab or amp like a wide body 1x12 combo, or one that requires mic placement more toward the center of cone, on the cap edge or even right in the middle, then this isn't the product for you. Unless you're miking it off-axis, perhaps. The cone edge is not the ideal mic placement option for every amp, cab, and speaker, as some other reviewers suggest.

My Mesa amps with Black Shadows, which are very dark, like to have a 57 pointed straight on where the cone and dust cap meet. I've even had a really good sound guy point a kick drum mic at them straight into the center, and it sounded awesome. With the wider body combo that I have, which also has a slanted top which precludes clamping to the top, you can't place the mic where it needs to go.

The clamp also, naturally, picks up cab vibrations. If you've really got the amp cranked up, this can be a problem too. But some cabs resonate pretty well at median volumes, so again, you're out of luck
Sturdily made, should last forever. No complaints here.
Really pricey for something with limited placement options.

a graceful solution

By gravydb

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

Audix Cab Grabber: I've owned it about a year, using it on my Hot Rod Deville 212, and it works perfectly. I like our stage setup to be as clean looking as possible, and this cab grabber really helps, eliminating extra mic stands. This is especially helpful on cramped stages! A note to those complaining about not being able to position the mic at the center of your speaker... why in god's name would you be trying to do that? You're supposed to position the mic toward the edge of the speaker! 66% of the distance from the center is the general rule of thumb. Season to taste, but definitely not the center! I wholeheartedly recommend this item. I gave it a slight ding for "value" because the price seems a little steep, although you can easily spend alot more for a traditional mic stand, the cab grabber is a much more clean & graceful solution.

Great little Device!

Ask me a question

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

I use a Carvin Legacy II and it fits just great. The arm's swing is plenty to get the speaker wherever I want( for me it's close to the outer edge of the speaker)I bought this because my amp is on the platform with the drums and besides constantly getting knocked around, the mini stand I had in front of my amp really picked up the kick and vibrations. This solved that problem just as I hoped it would as the mic is nicely isolated. I may buy another and have two mics at different axis points.

It works great.

By Twanger-qYqZB

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

I used it on a Marshall 4x12, Boogie Nomad, Fender twin and deluxe reverb. You can put a mini boom onto the standard 5/8 threads if you need to get to the center cone on some amps (usually not a good sound). Most mics you buy come with the clip that fits them and again those fit on the standard threads.

Nice thing to have around

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

I got mine a few days ago and it just clean things up. It's nice to not have to worry about tripping over the stand and then having to refind you spot. You can just set it and leave it for days and never lose your spot. Nice thing to have around for sure.

useless and overpriced

By Nard

from Los Angeles

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

It doesn't fit a Marshall cabinet, which is 14" and it says it fits up to 14". Well if you stretch it real hard it will, but it won't grab right so it sits very unstable. It also doesn't work on a Fender 1x12 combo because it doesn't reach far enough to the middle. Even if it fits, you are restricted to only a few mic positions. This thing is way to expensive. The concept is great, but the measurements are wrong. I wasn't able to try it out and see if picks up the vibrations of the cabinet. I wish I had not ordered it. Now Musician's Friend is making me pay for the return shipping, on top of my disappointment. Thanks!

Odd Mic Placement!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

I cant get the Mic to reach the Cone! (Center of the Speaker) on my Mesa Combo its off about 5" or Line 6 for that fact with a 57 Mic. And my 609 is out of the question Just to far away. I have some different mic holders which seems a little more stable and positioned better. I may return this not sure yet . Plus a lil pricey . Ok though if your not particular about mic placement on certain amps. lol

audix cab grabber microphone holder

By m-meadows

from myrtle beach, s,c,

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

The audix cab grabber is functional and well designed. The "heavy-duty" spring is strong and takes some strength to put the bar in place, but once in place, it's there to stay. That being said, there are a few issues that need to be voiced, (1)The product workes great with smaller combos. I have a blues jr. and a messa nomad 1x12 and it works great. The mic can be placed anywhere from about the center to the edge of the speaker with no problem, but with larger 112 combos, there are problems, a)because the mic arm is only about 5"(from bar to the end of the mic arm) plus a mic clip (about 1")you only have about 6" from the edge of the amp to the positioned mic. I have a fender pro reverb with tilt back legs. The pro is approx. 26" wide. Center of the amp is 13"(from the edge of the amp), a 12" speaker would extend 6" from that 13" center on each side. With these measurements. the audix cab grabber would just barely be at the edge of the speaker (90 degrees on axis). b) Also the tilt back legs have to be "tilted back" for the bar to fit securely on the side of the amp(no big problem). c) Putting the bar across the top is not a good idea because of getting in the way of the control knobs. Positioned from the bottom is almost impossible. There is a SOLUTION. I use a 6" gooseneck adapted to the arm of the grabber. This gives me that additional length to place the mic well inside the diameter of the speaker, to find that "sweet spot" With the added weight of the gooseneck and the mic(I use a shure beta 58) the mic holds its position very well. The cab grabber works great with 212 combos or 412 cabs. If you use a larger 112 combo, use these simple calculations to determine the position of the mic or buy a gooseneck

Not bad

By Likwyd

from La Grande, Oregon

Comments about Audix Cab Grabber Microphone Holder:

Excellent product. Grips the Spider III cab just awesome. I think for this price, even though it was brought down $10 since I placed the order, it could at least come with a MIC CLIP! Unless I was just the unlucky one who didn't get one in the packaging. The concept of the grabber is really cool as there isn't much competition on the market but I still think, for what it's worth, it's a little overpriced.
