Best snare mics I have ever purchased, i also use its brother mic the Audix f5 under my snare and blend the two. Make sure your buy high quality cables like Mogami cables. Cables make a huge difference, also another option is to custom make cables which I am in the procces of with my Drum riser. Just buy bulk mic cable off of www.partsexpress.com and high quality male and female XLR's. I have all Audix and never thought about any other brand. I currently use all the fusion mics on my rack toms and their famous kick mics on bass drum and floor toms. What a diffrence Audix really makes. The i5 and f5 really brings out my DW Collectors Series Snare.

Finally Found What I Needed

Features:

This microphone captures everything I want it to and nothing else thanks to the design. I use it to mic my Spider Valve 212 and it only picks up the amp. When I play I typically have a really loud backing track or music to play along with and needed something that would ignore the excess noise from the background and this mic does just that!

Quality:

This microphone is built tough! I don't have a lot of room in my guitar area so I am constantly moving everything around and the mic doesn't show any signs of damage or use. I have dropped it a couple times, it has rolled off of my desk and I stepped on it once even... still works brand new!

Value:

This microphone does everything I need it to and I don't regret buying it at all. At first I was a little hesitant due to the price tag, but figured I'd get what I paid for. This microphone lives well past my expectations and I look forward to using it for years.

Overall:

I had tried various methods of recording my guitar and had no luck with any. I bought an RP1000 and tried to use the USB direct recording and hated it. I couldn't get a good tone out of the thing unless I was plugged into an amp. I then bought a Toneport UX2 to use podfarm to record and didn't like that either... I just couldn't find anything I was happy with. I then proceeded to buy a single microphone cable to try out my amps direct output and hated the sound! It was way too muddy and dry. I finally bit my lip and ordered a mic. I looked into quite a few and settled on this one. I had never used a microphone to record before and this mic made it easy! I have no more problems with getting good recording tones and I feel relieved that I can plug in my guitar, hit record on reaper and am good to go!

This mic sounds amazing on snares and guitar cabs.     I picked one up the day before a show and put it on my snare during sound check and I was blown away at how much better it sounded than the 57.

We record our shows from FOH on a Zoom Q3HD recorder and the snare cuts through the mix with minimal EQ and no effects necessary, with ghost notes and cross-sticks coming through cleanly.     I later purchased an Audix kit

Sound goes in one end and out the other.     No other features needed.

Solid, built like a tank.     I have no fears of damaging this mic with a random stick hit.

For the price it's the best you can spend, period.

A lot of presence for a strong nice snare mic without a lot of bleed.      I love it on guitar cabs.

This mic is great for a lot of different jobs.

Better Than The Best (SM57)

I have one of these at home and i honestly it has a very well rounded sound. It seems to capture all the subtle details of whatever sounds its picking up. I have only used for vocals and its a perfect match for my voice. I sound very balanced capturing the highs and lows of my voice nicely. I can't say for sure but i'm pretty sure it would do a better job than an sm57 when it comes to snare. It seems to be bit more low end heavy but if ask me it captures a pretty good amount of highs as well so its a good mic for guitar as well. I think that when it comes to instruments microphones. This is your best be it is the most balanced one and its built like tank. Its quailty that is built to last.
