OVERVIEW

The PH5-VS delivers a high-quality contemporary sound which emphasizes a clean, articulate mid-range combined with outstanding bass. Whether you are a hobbyist or professional, the PH5-VS amplified speakers are a perfect choice for any type of portable music playback system, home recording, or permanent installation.

The Powerhouse series self-powered speakers have been serving the professional audio industry for over 10 years, and . Although simple in design, they represent the latest advances in technology, utilizing hybrid amplifier components and lightweight composite cabinets. The system design incorporates a stereo amplifier in one of the speakers (the master) which in turn connects by a cable to the other speaker (the slave). The amplifier utilizes two RCA audio inputs, a 1/4" input for the speaker cable, and a volume control knob. This makes the PH5-VS speakers, like the entire Powerhouse series, are easy to setup and simple to use.

Small, yet extremely well-built 25W speakers for wherever you see fit.

Out of the box and putting out music in under 5 minutes . These speakers sound excellent . good headroom . clear . light on bass but expected because the spec is 70k - whatever, point being the only go down to 70k, where a sub woofer will take you down to 30k . that's bottom . Anyway, my only complaint is . there is not on/off switch . So if you don't plug them into a power strip, you have to pull the plug out of the wall to turn them off . duh,,, I find this pretty lame, as every other pair of powered speakers I have, even cheasy computer pairs, have an on/off switch . That and on the one without the amp . there is a wall mounting hole in the top/back . the other, there's nothing!, and it's actually too heavy to just hang from the back . so, one on the shelf the other on the wall? IMHO . these are design features that should either been included (on/off) or as in the case of the wall mount potential . applied to both . good price w/ SDOD otherwise, over priced ...

Comments about Audix PH5-VS Powered Speaker Pair:

I bought this set as an "Open Box" advertised in 'Mint Condition'...they were NOT in Mint Condition, and this is why they get a 3 star rating.
The grill on the Master was dented in pretty badly, and the Slave was dented in slightly. Inspecting the packaging (both original box, and packing box), there was no damage due to shipping...so I know for a fact these monitors were inspected, put back in original package, and falsely listed as "Mint".
That being said; there is absolutely no doubt in my mind (having shopped Musicians Friend for nearly 7 years now) that Musicians Friend would have gladly taken these back and made things right with me.
After hooking them up, and listening to them (and reflecting on the great, great deal I got on them)...I quickly put the 'aesthetics' issue behind me. They sound awesome!
People need to remember; these are 25 watt monitors with 5 inch woofers...they are NOT designed to rattle the windows and tick off neighbors. They are designed to put out a balanced sound with tonal qualities; and that is exactly what they do.
Bass, Mid, and Treble all balanced beautifully.
If you want to spread them out more than 5 feet or so, you will have to buy a different chord (1/4" jack on one end, RCA jacks on the other).
I agree with others on the inconvenience of not having a power switch---just plain sucks to have to unplug them every time.
If you want to "fill the room" with sound it's not gonna happen with these alone. I hooked them to my PA and pair them up with my PA speakers---and use them as more of a localized sound for recording playback, and mixing (and surround sound).
I put "Home Theater" in 'Uses' above, because I can see where they'd be real nice hooked to your television for movie night.
In a nutshell...these are NOT "stereo speakers", and anyone that intends to use them as a sole source for home stereo, you will be disappointed if you think you're gonna crank them up and shake the bowl of potpourri off the coffee table. They're MONITORS!

Bought these on STOTD. Three pairs and they all hummed. One had dented grills, but pretty sure they hummed too. Sounded fine, just could not deal with the noise in the long run. Can't say enough about MF customer service. Ended up with JBL LSR305s, not at the same price, but the best deal I've seen. Lots of research, and they do not hum. I wanted to like these.

I tired three pairs. Kudos to MF for EXCELLENT customer service. First one buzzed, 2nd had damaged grills, 3rd buzzed. Up'd my basket for a pair of JBLs. Hoping this is the one.

Audix CS seemed good on the 1st purchase, responded to questions and made offers for help.

A bit light in the bass region, but that's expected... they sound very clean, and that's important to me, I can always add a subwoofer. Got these during a "stupid deal of the day" promotion for one hundred thirty dollops, and it was money well spent... wouldn't hesitate to buy them again for that price.

Four stars for the SDOD price, only 3 if I paid anything more. Slight hum... better on the current pair I own, but I had to return the first set which had more of a buzz. I know these aren't supposed to be a "boom and sizzle" solution based on their intended purpose, but I was expecting a bit more bottom end. Still, can't go wrong for the SDOD price.

Comments about Audix PH5-VS Powered Speaker Pair:

I am a pro mix engineer/Studio Owner but I also do some radio stuff in a small studio at a radio group. I hated the speakers that were there and because size is a concern, I opted for these as monitors. Now, first off, I am mixing radio imaging there on these, not music so I can't comment on how well a music mix would translate but I can say that I was very impressed with the sound of these for this purpose. These have a great frequency response and are very detailed without over hyping the highs. There is also a respectable amount of headroom for such a small speaker. If I had to, I'm sure that I could mix anything on them but I think they are more suited for a small setup where a good set of 8" nearfields won't fit.

One downside is that there is no balanced input. I really would like that as I had to build adapters to unbalance the connection.

These speakers are built like a tank and will hold up to any application home or live stage. The full spectrum sound is good without any EQ but would be enhanced if you add some EQ. I'm very satisfied with the sound and volume of these speaker using them with my PC desktop.I also caught them on a wonderful Deal of the Hour Sale which made the purchase even more pleasing.
