I love the bottom end on these cabinets, nothing else comes close and I have owned them all at one time or the other, the only complaint is the packing and shipping of these top notch cabinets, the are shipped in thin bardboard box with little or no protection from shipping hazards, B-52 could improve on this and really have a jam up product.
I have recently purchased 2 of these for my band, were a local band touring doing the local bar scene. this speakers are loud, clean, easy to move. I use to be a JBL lover and finally did some research on what was out in the market. B-52 is American made, with an outstanding warranty. I will buy nothing else speaker wise from this point forward. I listened to both the B-52's and JBL's at a local Guitar Center, and just was completely amazed by what the B-52 had offered.I wrote this same review for Guitarcenter...This is the best of the best.
This is a truely great sub. I love how the ACT18X powers this one. B-52 never ceases to amaze me. I've also got 2 1515Xs. With the whole ACT line, you're set for any event.
I own 4 of these. They cabs are well made. They are a bit heavy at 102 lbs. each. Each one has rear wheels built in, and a bar handle. There are 3 tuned flared ports in front, behind a heavy guage steel grille. They have 2 quarter inch inputs plus nutrik connectors. They use a Selenium 18SW2P driver. This is a speaker maker based in Brazil. Even tho these speakers are rated for 1000 watts, the drivers have 600 watts rms printed on the maginets. When i called B52, and asked them about this, they assured me these speakers could handle much more power than the stated 600 watt rms. The drivers have 6 small vents around the maginet and a larger center vent in the middle of the maginet. They also use a double spider and cast frame. The voice coil is a 4" high temp fiberglass design. The subs put out a lot of bass down to about 30hz. I put one of these up against a Cerwin Vega el-36b. I was very surprised. The b52 blew away the Cerwin. At the same wattage i ran a freq. sweep from 25hz to 120hz. Most of the time you couldn't hear the Cerwin, even standing 50ft. away. The b52's had much more output. B52 is a California based speaker co. They import the drivers from Brazil and they make the cabinets here in the USA. The speaker designer at B52 told me these drivers were tested to 3000 watts rms with no damage. I just don't understand why the drivers only have a 600 watt rms rateing. I did push just over 1000 watts rms into them, and they didn't seem to strain or bottom out. I've been a Cerwin Vega fan for many years. I still feel they make some great speakers. After testing the B52's and Cerwins, there is no doubt who is the new king of bass.
