OVERVIEW

A simple solution for superior sound.

The B-52 Matrix 2000 Speaker Sound System consists of 2 - 12" 2-way speakers, an 18" subwoofer with a 3-channel amplifier, and circuitry housed in a separate compartment on the sub unit's back. A 600W amp drives the subs, and 2 - 300W amps drive the 2-ways. All of the components are matched for the best possible sound and balance with minimal tweaking. All you have to do is connect the B-52 Matrix 2000 system components, plug in the power cord, plug in your mixer or other sound source, and you're ready to go!

The B-52 subwoofer enclosure is divided into 2 separate compartments. The front chamber serves as the cabinet for the cast-frame, 4" voice coil and 18" subwoofer. The rear chamber houses all of the system's electronic circuitry, which includes the amplification for all 3 components, power supply, compressor, and preamps. The B-52 subwoofer has a power handling capability of 600W and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms.

Each 12" 2-way Matrix 2000 speaker is loaded with a B-52 custom-designed 12" woofer and a 1" titanium diaphragm compression driver, mounted to a 90 x 40 constant directivity horn. The speakers can be pole mounted, used as stage monitors, or flown with built-in 3/8"”16 TPI hardware for permanent installations. For transport, they mount onto the subwoofer's front grille.

Transporting the B-52 Matrix system is easy: Move the subwoofer onto its casters and place the included cover over the subwoofer. Next, pull the included covers over the satellite speakers and close the zippers. It is recommended that you transport the subwoofer and satellites separately. You may transport all the components at the same time by placing the satellite speakers onto the subwoofer's front panel facing down. Secure the satellite speakers to the subwoofer with the included locking strap by fastening it to the bar handles on the side of the subwoofer cabinet.

The B-52 Matrix 2000 Speaker Sound System has a limited lifetime warranty on cabs and compression drivers; 5-year warranty on speakers; 2-year warranty on amplifiers.

Pros: Great sound. Loud thunderous bass. Very clear highs and mids even when played at high levels. Great price.

Pros: Very easy setup. You'll need two speakon cables, and depending on your setup, two XLR to RCA cables, or use an XLR to 1/8" trs and send the channel output using an XLR male to XLR female cable.
---
Cons: The subwoofer is heavy and weighs 160lb and unless you're gifted at lifting heavy objects, you'll need a partner to help you load the subwoofer in your truck. You'll need a truck, van or suv to haul this thing, the dimensions of the subwoofer are bigger than what I had imagined.

Cons: I don't know whether it is my speakon or xlr:rca cables, but at low volumes there is an airy hiss. But who would buy this system to play their songs softly?? I think this is a very small problem and there should be no worries: just crank up the noise.
Sound: The system puts out a large sound, it is tremendous and frightening, in a good way. The highs and mids coming from the two satellites are very clear and even as crank up the volume, there is little distortion. As for the lows and the bass, you don't just hear the bass, you FEEL it coming from the sub woofer. The bass is so thunderous, it makes me feel nervous when I can see the house shaking, but at the same time, I get chills listening to my songs because the sound quality is exceptionally clear.
Build Quality: The cabinets of the subwoofer are built from 13-ply birch wood and it feels really sturdy. The grill of the speakers is also made out of heavy duty materials and the four transport wheels are built to last. Nothing about this thing looks weak.

But as with all electrical equipment, it has an Achilles heel: There is a switch that changes the power from 115V to 230V. Be sure that if you are on the 115V setting, you are not plugged into an outlet supplying 230V: you will instantly fry the amps!
For the price you pay for this unit, I think you are getting a good deal. Two high quality satellites, and a very intimidating looking sub, you can't beat this price. Granted, I'm sure there are greater/better sounding setups, but you'll have to shell a lot more for qsc, jbl or bose, which will probably sound no different from the B52.

Side notes: Doesn't come with speakon cables, tripod stands or XLR cables.

I bought my matrix 2000 system in October 2008 it has broken 4 times. The first time was at my very first gig, the sub went out. I took it back and they gave me a new system. The second time it went out the fans quit working and burnt up the amps in it. The third time I had to take it to get worked on side of my top ends was pushing twice as hard as the other...oh and my sub went out again. I took it to get worked on they paid to fix the amp but said I pushed it to hard and broke the sub(BTW I only had my system and amp at 3/4 up). The gig was only about 100 pep so I wasn't pushing it at all. I had it back for two weeks and in the middle of my gig my sub went out again and started smoking. Sound quality is great, but having to take it to get worked on every week is BS. When you spend that kind of money on something, it is suppose to work!!!!!!!!!!

Comments about B-52 Matrix 2000 Speaker Sound System:

Nothing elaborate, nothing beautiful, but good clean power and sound for the cash. Like others before me have said, it can be used for a lot of things. We have "mic"ed up lots of stuff through it, including nice martin guitars with fishman electronics with very nice results. This unit can be well recommended for the money. This thing also makes a kick a** stereo.

Bring your own EQ but...

Comments about B-52 Matrix 2000 Speaker Sound System:

THESE THINGS ARE GREAT! Put two in a club that holds 250 people - flew the mains and subs under the stage and wow. Amazing. Best sound for hundreds of miles around and that's from the over 500 people that came in and heard them. Even the local DJ's and Bands were blown away. Two issues: No control of built in compression. That however wasn't a problem as these puppies didn't oversquash at all.The other issue is that you WILL need a room EQ with these, as with any system - Don't just plug your CD player or mixer in and think you're done - every speaker system is different - that's why they make room EQ's.Other then that, highly recommended.

Blew the windows out of a church

By Mistertimmy420

Comments about B-52 Matrix 2000 Speaker Sound System:

I just installed this system in my parents small church. I had never heard this system before and was floored by the awesome output. Whe ran the drum program on our electric keys and you could feel the bass pressure in your brain. Crystal clear output and soaring db's didn't let us down. it only took abot 10 minutes and a couple of cables to hook up this compact 1200watt power house . I'd recomend this system for any Band or Venue looking for high end full range mains for low end prices. BUY IT NOW!!!

Awesome, in more ways than one

Comments about B-52 Matrix 2000 Speaker Sound System:

I am a mobile DJ, and I've been using these Matrix systems for five years. I own two of the Matrix 2000 and one Matrix 1000. These babies "pump out the sound" week in and week out! The amps and pre-amp boards will go out after some time, but they are pretty inexpensive to replace. By this time, I have re-loaded all of my speakers and used Peavey Black Widows, only adding to their awesome sound and power. It's pretty "massive" when two of the systems are put together. Oh yeah, the subs are extremely heavy, but, I don't care, it's what I want. My "party people" dance all over the top of them every weekend, and, aside for getting a little dirty, or down right muddy (I just hose 'em off), they hold up great! I don't think you can break 'em, 'cause if you could, we would have done it by now!

B-52 Matrix 2000

Comments about B-52 Matrix 2000 Speaker Sound System:

I sing in a quartet that uses this system. After numerous engagements, I CANNOT recommend this P.A for anyone who wants understandable vocals. There are not enough features to make it useable. When the sub kicks in with our bass singer, you cannot understand what he says, all you hear is a mushy rumble. He then drowns everything else out. In addition,to eq the mics out of the sub means degrading the tone by removing all lows, then everything sounds harsh. Plus, it's to heavy. If B-52 upgraded the system with a seperate line input for the sub,or if the crossover was ajustable, then this would be a different story. Those who want intelegable, not muddy sound should not purchase this. But if you want to make poor quality, thumpy noise, go ahead and waste your money and break your back.
